  1. Yes, remember it well. Had my 15th birthday in January. I did a morning paper round on my bike starting at 6 o clock in the morning and finishing at about 8 o clock in time to have breakfast and then cycle to school. Paper round covered Knowle West and Hengrove and I managed until Easter before coming off the bike due to the snow melt turning to ice overnight.
  2. Dear gl2 it's so sad to hear this situation has occured but please don't beat yourself up over it. Your dear old mum would have been born about the same time as mine and that generation of ladies put their families, particularly their children, above everything else and made tremendous sacrifices to ensure their wellbeing. I should know as I was the eldest of 8 kids, dragged up in Knowle West, and as I grew older I could understand what was going on. I'm sure your Mum would have been of the same ilk and would perfectly understand the decision you made. Hopefully sometime in the near future your siblings will have a change of heart, maybe through a situation they experience, which will change their outlook. In the meantime stay focused on the loved ones around you and try to stay positive looking forward. Best regards.
  3. Well after witnessing todaysk debacle I have decided not to even watch the first half on Boxing Day. Instead of dropping the wife off with the kids and then go off to the match I'm going to stay with the family. I'll think of a very family orientated reason and not that I can't stand facing a game that's likely to spoil my Christmas.
  4. And school boy defending coupled with p*** poor distribution ( I counted 6 misplaced shortish passes and happened to look at my watch, 6 minutes played) doesn't have an impact?
  5. I know nothing about EVs but a friend who has just bought a new one claims the predicted mileage on his screen is not affected by heated seats or steering wheel being switched on. But if he uses the car heater the predicted mileage scale just drops and drops. He's going to buy a pair of knee high fur lined boots.
  6. I couldn't agree with you more.
  7. Oi, I use the buses regularly to get to the Gate.
  8. Fred was manager throughout my teenage years and can remember when passing his house in West Town Lane looking in in awe. Just checked to confirm my memory and after a season managing the Gas he went to Swindon for 3 seasons and they finished in their highest position, 3rd in League 2. They also won the Anglo Italian Cup twice beating the likes of Napoli, AS Roma and Juventus.
  9. Park and Ride not mentioned in opening post.
  10. Isn't this always the case for bank holidays? Easter and Boxing day I have always had to get the car out.
  11. Blimey, BBC Sport reporting Wrexham v Farmborough FA Cup Tie Attendance. 19,110.
  12. As the saying goes, in the defence of alcohol I have done some pretty stupid things when sober.
  13. P A system in the Dolman? Surely that's a myth.
  14. At the time I thought it was excellent positioning by the defender and from my viewing position in the Dolman, and being a bit picky I thought Wells should have checked his run slightly and received a squarer ball, this avoiding the block, but he was going at full pelt.
  15. Nothing there now, temporary out of order. And what happened to the Lincoln highlights ..... Oh wait a minute.......
  16. But would they put you on something where your optimum performance is vital to their results?
  17. Yes, was working at the Gate and saw Galley running the line on the five a side pitch on the car park behind the "Grand Stand" with a bib in hand and foot in a plaster cast. He played on the Saturday. Was it his debut and did he notch a couple or even an hat trick?
  18. See you next week then m'lud.
  19. Bollom were dry cleaners and had plenty of shops all over Bristol. Works were in "Horefield" then in the 60s moved to the industrial estate at the bottom of Novers Hill. Were taken over by Johnson's and changed name I think in the 90s.
  20. Roger to a tee. So unlike Ed Morrison the international rugby ref from Bristol.
  21. For the brief period my son played at kids level gave every lad on the pitch encouragement never criticism or calling out the ref. Couldn't see much wrong with that. Although the near 40 years I played "men's" football was a different kettle of fish.
  22. I've said it before we were doing Cotts a favour. Never seen so many crosses/passes hit their first man in dangerous areas. So obvious we didn't want to score.
  23. My observations of Williams is that he is a "pointer". When we are faced with an opposition player running at us in our half he very often finds himself in no man's land and will point at an opposing player, to no one in particular, in an effort to appear he is covering someone else but is actually doing nothing.
  24. I know I will be shouted down on my frustrations from yesterday but here goes. Our defence, playing quite a high line, were 5 players strung out, equally spaced across the pitch, watching/facing the ball. The QPR players were almost level but stood between ours. How do you see opponents making a run in behind when they are out of vision. Call me old fashioned but I like to see forwards marked tightly that far up the pitch and put under pressure when receiving the ball or making a run. I appreciate the advantages of zonal marking but the way we implement it is leaving to much space and time for attackers.
