A younger player with genuine potential/room to grow/future profit is preferential imo than the sentimentality of signing a former player on his final pay day.

I'm sure the club have moved on from Bryan, and rightly so.

The club will have only moved on from Bryan because he informed us of his intention to play overseas. You may have gotten the end result you wanted but it wasn’t because the club didn’t want the deal to happen.

  2. I wonder how many goals we’ve scored or chances created after Alex has broke the opposition press and released.
It’s a bit or a travesty that a shanked shot or bad touch can end up counting as an assist but he gets no “stat credit” when he resisted Prestons press to play Nahki down the line for Sam Bell to score. I know who I think had the biggest contribution to that goal and it wasn’t the guy who got the assist or the guy who put the ball in the net.

Massengo cost us £7mil & that was 4 years ago, i would say Scott is much further along with his development than HNM was & nobody really thought the money was OTT. I dont think any club would be stupid enough to offer £10mil & think they would get told anything other than “piss off & dont waste our time”. Some of the prices are ridiculous, i agree, but i think it’s reasonable to ask (& expect) around £25m.

     He didn’t.

Yes. Massengo cost up to about 7.8m, and a lot of the add-ons were met. He was an incredibly expensive deal for the club.

What add-ons were met that cost an additional 5m ?

I'm sure the answer lies in one of @Davefevs spreadsheets.

Apart from any 1st team appearances based add-ons, what else would he have triggered? No promotion or play-offs, nowhere near enough goals or assists, if any existed and no senior international call-up.
At a stretch, possibly triggered one with the U21 call up but apart from that, what else?

I was in the army at 17 and posted to Germany. Like lots of guys my age I struggled at first but had an epiphany when I tried to chat up a girl I fancied in the cookhouse and she told me via someone who could interpret that if I learned German she would date me. I quickly realised loneliness and not being able to communicate went hand in hand. So I learned German and everything changed. I was no longer stuck with the insular band of guys I worked with. Things opened up and I ended up living there for  a while after I left the army. This was in the '80s.
Alex Scott had an advantage in as much as he didn't have a language issue. HNM learned to speak reasonable English and from what I understand was popular with his team mates. Someone I know who met him formed the impression that 'team Massengo' always had a plan long term, and that we weren't part of it unless we got promoted. He came for the experience. If we went up then fine, a win win for everyone. If at the end of the contract we weren't competitive he'd move on.
The internet and technology make the world a much smaller place these days and staying in touch is far easier than it used to be.
I personally think he's been getting the wrong advice from his father. His head was probably turned about something which hasn't happened. Shame because in full flow he was a good player.

Unfortunately at the time, for me socialising wasn’t really possible. The group I was with was 90% French with a few Africans. I was the only British guy and the French had no interest in building relationships or even attempting to communicate with me, despite speaking to each other in English(which was quite funny to be fair). The African lads were great though, i was put in a hotel with one of them and the others made me feel welcome.
I was just woefully underprepared mentally and probably didn’t try to embrace the culture as much as I should have.
I agree, the internet would have made a huge difference.

You're absolutely right a totally different challenge alex would not have been in a position wages wise to bring family member's over to live with him like han or yourself at 18, may i ask if you moved abroad at 18 for work?

Yes, I moved for work. I may be wrong but I’m sure Han’s father also acts as his agent? Which would mean he’s also earning a few quid, whereas I don’t think Alex Scott’s father does.

If we are going too use being out your comfort zone as a excuse for signing young players we may as well give up, I would a culture shock would have been coming from somewhere like a real small place rather like Alex Scott, this is getting silly now

At 18, I moved to a different country on my own. It was a huge culture shock and I suffered badly with homesickness. Some people take to it and adapt better than others, regardless of what you’re there for and how much you’re getting paid.
Alex Scott moving from Guernsey, while undoubtedly a challenge, is not the same as HNM moving from France.

Come on, @Davefevs, I'm not that shallow in my analysis, even if I can't understand your graphs. It's more a case of how he fits in the team, in the shape - we have a LB who has been exceptional this season, do we really want a backup that the fans will be clamouring for? And whose wages will likely be pretty hefty? And who's 29 (not old, but).

I just don't see how JB fits into the whole team. However, he is a good player, and by all accounts an excellent young man, so fingers crossed it works out. But I think he'd want to start, so where does that leave Pring?

That leaves Pring fighting for a starting place like everybody else. Competition within the squad for places is good.

Young Ephraim (15) has also played for the U23s this season.

    He sounds very promising.

I didn't realise he had Italian citizenship as well.

I guess he's not related in anyway to Tony?

He left school last year(St Bernadette’s) so 17 I imagine. Like you say, very promising.
