  1. I was given it for Christmas a few years back. It's not a bad read, quite funny at times, although a little superficial in its brief summaries of different clubs. More of a browsing book than a meaningful in depth study.

What's with the hunting/post horn when then teams come out, is that the EFL musical branding? Surely nothing to do with City!

It's the trumpet fanfare from the William Tell Overture which I introduced in 2008 when I was asked to revamp our pre match routine. You're right in saying that Giacomo Rossini had no connections with City, but he did know how to write a rousing tune. I think it still works well as a signal that kick off isn't far away.  We tried a few different bits of music over the years but nothing has really stuck. I'd be all in favour of Drink Up Thy Zider or Unfinished Sympathy. Whatever is played, you have to stick with it until it becomes an accepted part of pre match.

    Was it? Show me where?

It was on here people made up their minds it was Tinnion.

Absolutely. Far too much opinion stated as fact on this and other threads. I don't have a problem with people having differing opinions, but the disrespect and childish insults being bandied about to suit some people's personal agendas are way below the belt.

For years, many on this forum have criticised the Lansdowns for not knowing enough about football (wrongly in my view). 'We need a football man' they cried - with a certain vagueness about exactly what is meant by a football man. Often I got the impression that it meant 'me', or quite possibly 'my mate down the pub who once played Semi-Pro for Mangotsfield'.

So now they have appointed a football man. A club legend who has played over 500 games for the club, has extensive experience as a coach and manager and a proven track record of success in developing and nurturing young talent both in the UK and abroad. And now some say 'no, not that football man - we meant somebody else'. And when that football man does the job he was employed to do, along with his employers, and replaces a manager who was well-liked but not exactly pulling up trees, he is suddenly a snake?

By all means lets have debate about decisions made. We are never going to agree about everything, and mistakes have been made down the line, and will no doubt be made again in the future. But to suggest that Steve, Jon, Brian et al (and whoever is next in the firing line) don't have the best interests of the club at heart is wrong and disrespectful.

  4. I wish there was a recording of me reading out this team at AG in 2010. My proudest moment in football announcing 😉

Uzbekistan U21: Kuvvatov, Khalmukhamedov, Tuhtahujaev, Irmatov, Kholmurodov, Nagaev (Turaev 25), Ibrokhimov, Karimov, Musaev, Valijonov (Khasanov 57), Mamadaliyev (Mukhammadiev 82), Turaev (Shikov 87).
Subs Not Used: Khudoyorov, Raupov, Rakhmatullaev.

Been there done that. Did Royal Navy Reserve used to sponsor the subs when @Dave L used to read them?

They did, but I said I wasn't prepared to make those announcements.  No disrespect to the RN, but that level of commercialistion has no place in the delivery of basic in- game information IMO. So I handed over the substitution announcements to Tim S.

I have to say, I’ve found the Tinnion lurking stuff all very very odd.

Lurking at the front of him addressing the players, next to the cameras for the press conference, watching him being filmed for club media, now you can see him stood on the sideline watching the first training session.

half expecting him to be in the dugout on Saturday!

I don't see it that way Pete. Lurking?

For years, many on this forum have been crying out for a 'football man' as DOF, overseeing football operations. That very much seems to be Tins' new role. And if someone with over 500 games for the club, managerial and overseas coaching experience and a proven track record in identifying, coaching and improving young players isnt a football man, then who is?

And I would very much expect that 'football man' to be there to ease a new Head Coach ( an excellent appointment  IMO) into his new role to provide continuity and a familiar face for the players.

    Let's see how it works.

I’m glad they’ve sought to rectify this ball-drying nonsense.
Every throw in which a player uses a towel to dry the ball takes around 25-30 seconds - often more.
I’m quite sad and actually counted the time in a West Brom v Birmingham games once. 30 seconds minimum each throw in!!

Then we get the ridiculous situations where Cornick gets booked after he hadn’t thrown it back in after 12 seconds!!

These towels delay the game more than anything else in my opinion.

To towel drying you can add: keepers falling on the ball and dry humping it for 30 seconds before getting up to clear it, substituted players wandering off at a snail's pace, players going down like they've been shot and rolling around clutching their face in order to get the game stopped, players taking over a minute to celebrate a goal, players clustering round a referee to argue every decision, goalkeepers wandering around their penalty area and kicking mud off their boots on the goal posts before every goal kick / not immediately getting into position when a penalty is awarded against them, players kicking the ball away when conceding a free kick (this used to be a mandatory booking, but for some reason it isn't anymore), players lining up to take a throw in or free kick or corner then handing the job over to someone else. Some people call it 'game management' and in small doses I guess it's part and parcel of the game. But the level of time wasting and cheating in football is completely out of hand. It's robbing spectators. I hate it. The sooner we have a timing system the better, as well as referees with the balls (and the back up from the FA) to start dishing out red cards to cheats the better.

    Done loads.

Basically arrive around midday and collect your passes, if the Heineken then the entrance is at the rear of the South Stand, if the Lansdown suite then the entrance is on the ground floor of the Lansdown stand.

Make your way upstairs to the Heineken/Lansdown lounges, you will be seriously impressed by both.

You will be shown to your table by a host.

Pre match lunch, the bar facility, programme and usually some players or a legend will come in for a chat.

Paul Cheesley hosts the Heineken lounge and hes first class.

    Watch the first half.

Back in half time for snacks/beer.

    Out for the second half.

Back in after the game and the bar remains open till around 6pm.

It is a great afternoon and lets hope 3 points as well.

Not much to add to that really. Paul hosts in the Heineken and he is indeed first class. I'm the host in the Lansdown Restaurant which is a much bigger space and a bit trickier when it comes to interviewing guests. We try and make sure everyone has a good day out (apart from the football over which we have no control). There are always former players who are happy to chat from table to table, and we try and have a special guest to interview each week. We had Keith Millen and Leroy Rosenior a couple of weeks ago and Clive Whitehead for the WBA game. There's three different price ranges in the Lansdown as far as food and drink goes, but everyone has the same exposure to the former players and the weekly special guest. It's a really good matchday experience for those that can afford it.

Tallies with what I heard last week - that the club are far more amenable to this than some would think and expect. The club just want it done safely and fairly and within the rules and regulations.

I've heard differently and separately from the Club that we have numbers as below.

Exactly what I was told yesterday by a key decision maker at the club. General recognition that initiatives like this are welcome and they are happy to work with fans. But safety will always be paramount, and existing ST holders have to be considered too.

Reading the wording of this letter, they appear ready to move the date of the parade if something is going to happen at Ashton Gate

It's good that they have an alternative date in mind. Hopefully discussions will have taken place between AG and the organisers

  11. I'm surprised at the scheduling of this game. It's the Bedminster winter lantern parade at 4pm  that day when large parts of North St and the surrounding roads will be cordoned off. I'm sure this will have been arranged on a non football / rugby day

Not being argumentative but why do fans need to ask the club where they sit? The club have done absolutely nothing to foster a good atmosphere so let the fans do it organically and as long as they aren’t hurting anyone there is no problem?

Actually, I can see loads of potential problems.

What about the people who already sit there and who enjoy their current match day experience?

How would any of us feel if another fan 'organically' came and occupied the seat we'd sat in for years, and paid less for it too?

'Atmosphere' can mean a number of things, including an increase in the likelihood of anti social behaviour, which in itself leads to increased stewarding and policing costs - at a time when the club's financial woes are well-documented.

I'm not saying things don't need to improve, but if there's to be a shift to that part of the ground by more vocal supporters then I would suggest it can't take place until there has been full consultation with the club. We have an excellent SLO and he should be the starting point for any discussions.
