  1. It wouldn't surprise me that the many American owners buying PL clubs were thinking about the opportunity of making the Prem closer to the US model down the road. I think all the US sports teams are profitable as they have no relegation, salary caps, little regard for local fans moving home games and sometimes moving to a new city etc. I think baseball has around 160 games a season and basketball around 100 including the playoffs and I don't think in any US sport it's a system where the clubs play all the opponents the same number of times. Not saying this is all possible in English football but I am sure some of it can be pushed into the game, and it will make the owners investment portfolio look even better. Will be interesting to see if and when a tipping point comes where fans lose interest, I still think the new EFL TV deal is a big gamble but we will see.
  2. I'll take back all the comments I made about his finishing if he does.
  3. Penalty that Cov just got looked pretty similar to rub salt into the wounds.
  4. The fave from the ones I have been to is Hillsborough but reading his story about it brings back some bitter memories.
  5. Had a really fun day in the away end watching them clinch promotion to league 1 at the mem with the fans and players celebrating on the pitch, who would have guessed less than 2 years later and now they are dropping out the football league entirely and the gas actually upgraded the stand.
  6. Was hoping Plymouth stay up and on Monday thinking they didn't show much goal threat and that it would be a close run thing, massive 3pts for them. Nothing against Birmingham but for sacking Eustace when he had them in 6th I wouldn't mind seeing them go out of the rest of the teams down there.
  7. I seen then a few times last season and they picked up 7 pts in 3 games which was good going since they had a pretty terrible season overall. To be fair you should enjoy the food even if the football isn't great, but good to see them change fortunes a bit since SC has arrived and would like to see a local side stay in the football league.
  8. Fair enough this is what they have clearly stated so can't dispute it if people take it at face value, but personally I don't take those comments too seriously because I have seen similar too many times before with new kit releases, for me it's just horseshit marketing talk that they do everytime they release kits and they often have no substance behind them.
  9. For me it's a little annoying that they changed the away kit to a new colour that has nothing to do with England (although nobody else seems to care much so guess I am in the minority), but in light of doing that I can see why the cross was changed to make it more consistent so have no problem there. What is much worse is the Germany away kit, for a home tournament they have changed their colours to pink/purple and if I was German I would probably be just as offended.
  10. Considering that people have commented that the away kit looks blue in some light and purple in others was it supposed to be related to that? Whether it is or not the price is too much.
  11. I am especially looking out for the fixtures against the bottom half teams before the end of the season, so far I don't think Manning has beaten any and it's been like half a goal per game or something very close to that.
  12. I would say that for a game to be considered a proper derby you need to have a crossover of fans who live in the same area, work together etc. As England and Wales are pretty separate I don't think it was ever really the case here, if you lived/worked in Cardiff then it would probably have a derby feel but that's going to be a minority of fans. Severnside derby is a label I don't really go along with although can see why the club or someone like sky like to use it to hype it up, the game is still a good rivalry compared to what we have in the rest of the division and hoping there is another good atmosphere on Sat like the game last season.
  13. Barry Corr - Current caretaker head coach at Cambridge.
  14. I suppose the transfers are going to be the decision of a committee with Tins having a big input no matter who the head coach is, hopefully they don't end up finger pointing when things go wrong and we end up with several crap players on 3 year deals. I don't especially trust that things are going to get better to be honest, not a great outlook but I am satisfied with Manning enough to give him a fair opportunity if we finished around 15th. Can understand those who would say why bother wasting a year or more on Manning when he isn't obviously looking like taking us up the table but for me you should look to give a manager a cycle of a few years where possible, hate it when clubs change manager every year and don't think it works well in the long term usually.
  15. Having seen some good and bad from Manning I think he deserves to start next season and see what happens from there. For me it's never a good time to have this poll after a couple of losses. Interesting there is the same poll on here after the wba boxing day game last season where 56% wanted Pearson to be sacked.
  16. I wonder if they have calculated that they have no real chance in playoffs or of relegation so a good opportunity to get points deducted this season and go again next year? Good luck to them though especially whilst GJ is the manager still, went there for a pre season friendly about 12 years ago where looking at an old photo the likes of Ryan Taylor, Martyn Woolford and David James were playing for City. Hope they get back into the FL at some stage.
  17. Since they won at Ashton Gate it's 0 wins, 1 draw and 7 defeats. Can't say I am too surprised that getting rid of Rowett for Frank Lampard's assistant hasn't worked. The Sheff Wed loss dragged them into the relegation fight and I think keeping Edwards and hoping he turns it around would be a bigger gamble than giving Harris another go. If there was a bad mid season manager change award this season I would still go for Birmingham to get 1st prize, with Millwall and Sunderland both in the running for 2nd I am struggling to decide there.
  18. It bugs me how the forest anthem is about a place in Scotland and sounds really Scottish too. Can't help thinking why would any English club want to have that as their anthem whenever I hear it, it's not exactly like Scotland is known for outstanding football either.
  19. Missing out on the play offs not acceptable for a big club with expectant fans, interested to see if sneaking into the play offs will go well this season as the gap between 3rd and 6th is on course to be the biggest ever since the championship play offs began (currently it stands at 16pts which matches the all time record after 46 games which was in 1997-98).
  20. To have gone through a relentless run of games against prem and top half championship teams and to come out tonight looking much fitter than a team unbeaten since September it's a big credit to the players, think Manning has done well with the subs and rotating but must be doing other things right too between games and also fitness going back to pre season paying off now too? Hope it can continue going into next batch of games.
  21. That was the only one that came to my mind initially, seen that they were unbeaten in the league but had lost a couple in the cups. If it was based on how impressive the win was at the time I guess that would be top of the list. Judging by how much of the ball Southampton have had in their recent games I would be more hopeful of quality of the tech than the action.
  22. Have City ever beaten a team on a 25 match unbeaten run before? Need I ask
  23. With this team I never expected play offs despite what the board may have spouted to get rid of NP, once the schedule gets a bit less congested I expect to have around 7-12th form until the end of the season. In the coming years would like to see a play off push but we are up against it due to competition (parachute teams and lots of similar sized clubs), no idea if the Manning gamble will work out or not will find out next season. Long term we should be aiming to have an extended run in the premier league like Palace/Brighton currently are having although I doubt I will ever see that.
  24. When it was the first Forest Green game after Horseman/Carey were sacked I saw them both watching our game. As it's Watford at the Gate tomorrow maybe Deeney can join them too.
  25. To be fair the difference in quality between championship and league 1 meant it was always going to be a tough ask. But listening to the radio last night you could feel how gutted they all were to miss out on the Anfield trip.
