  1. Sorry, am I completely out of the loop?

When did football stop being about scoring goals or at least being a threat to the oppositions goal?

How can we be “progressive” or “going in the right direction” if we are rarely doing the one thing that defines how the points are won?

We look so toothless its untrue.

Here you go, 21:40 on this. Thing of beauty, doesn’t show the crossfield 1-2 with Walshie before but does show the finish:

    Thanks, dreamy. Great days.

Will spend most of the evening now trying to pick out me, my Dad, and my Grandad jumping about by freezing every frame!!

  3. I was in the East End, to the right of the goal by about 10 feet (our normal spot) and remember the cushioned volley Ralph Milne scored (pretty sure on debut) like it was yesterday. Could see straight down the line of it into the top corner. Was a hero to me as a boy from that moment on. Spent hours trying to replicate that.

Sad story, but he bought a lot of joy on the pitch.

Totally obnoxious and rude. Turned off straight away, that's done it for me. I don't care about what YOU want to be discussed Ian. I want to hear what Mark has to say.

    Shocking, bloke's a weapon.

Pretty spiteful, condescending and churlish from Ian.

Very unpleasant but almost instinctive behaviour which is not a great look at all.

    Shame.

None of our games have VAR. In fact, the only game we have ever played with VAR was the reverse fixture.

Yeah I know, I meant as a spectacle to watch, bearing in mind the opposition play week in week out with it.

But he's slipping as he failed to mention our 2-1 win at the Boleyn Ground in February 78 with goals from Jimmy Mann and Joe Royle (Pop Robson for them).

I am almost 100% certain that if the 4th official would have held up 6 minutes instead of 4 then he would have woven this into his City-mentary.

Just imagining Danny Gabbidon’s face trying to add any value to the subject of Max O’Leary’s school years.

  7. Lovely to see a bit of spite and gamesmanship from someone in our shirt for a change.

An absolute menace. Done them like a kipper for the sending off and he does not stop chirping either.

By the way, what a refreshing game without VAR. Added to it and loved the way the players went about it with freedom living on the edge.

    How it should be.

If this is true, then a few on here might have to reappraise their opinion of Brian Tinnion and the quality he brings to the recruitment team. Just like the quality he brought to the team when he played.

Without getting dragged into this again, the issue is not the quality that Tinnion identifies, but more about who they allow to then buy the identified talent.

Who knows? The £2.5m (minimum) if spent in August could have had us top 4 currently.

That final was as close as any game can be, we actually started it the better side & missed a couple of half chances.

Losing McCombe the night before & then Orr in the first half was rotten luck, though as completely obsessed as people have since become over LJ coming on as result, our real issue in it was the inability of Trundle (who was very poor on the day), Adebola or Byfield (on as a sub) to score.

I don’t actually think Brown is any better a manager than GJ was at the time, he just had the breaks on that particular day.

Adebola had an unreal chance to put us 1-0 up in the early minutes.

Had a horrible feeling of what was about to come from that second onwards.

  10. I had a lovely pair of foldover tongue Hi-Tec as a kid, then went to Lotto for youth football and ended up in adult football almost exclusively wearing Adidas World Cups on soft ground and Copa Mundials on hard.

I did have a season in some lovely Andrea’s mouldeds that were recommended but they seem hard to get now.

But, judging by your username, a little on the small side right? :)

Anyway back to the beasting, George isn't a natural wingback, but he is clearly working hard to add what's necessary to his game. He has been combining well with Sykes in recent games, but if course yesterday he was not only out of position he was literally outclassed in terms of pace.

Generally my only regular issue with him is that he plays very narrow in defence, but the fact he has been like this under two managers for two seasons, suggests it's how he is being asked to play.

Unusually tall for a right back actually.

Terrible in the air, but then, if you are having to head a football as a full-back, you are probably out of position or your centre-backs are not good enough.

Thats what I always said anyway.

I don’t think @SydneyCity was expressing their opinion, just stating there was a manager who said we are a clever club because we lost semenyo but replaced him with a ‘clever upgrade’ in Bell.

Sydney isn’t wrong. That did happen and it’s a direct quote. It was Carlos Corberan. Currently still in work, probably not for long though.

We are both right then and Corberan is the loser here.

    And City really.

    Happy Sunday all!

I’ve got news for you - he’s not even in the bottom 3 full backs at City.

Some of us have lived through Rickie Foster and Nicky Hunt and Ryan McGiven and that’s just the past 15 years!

Brian Mitchell please and thank you.

I think Bell will be a victim of the new style, leave and excel.

I can’t remember which opposition Manager said this season that he was very impressed by our academy as we were able to lose Semenyo and have someone better (Bell) come in and replace him. He’s also getting called up to England, so he’s doing something right.

We’re playing pretty ineffective football right now - unless possession is our only aim - and I don’t think anyone, except Sykes and to a lesser extent Knight and TGH are really achieving any thing remarkable.

Bell is dipping in form, but young. He’ll achieve a career well above League 1, unfortunately not at City.

Anyone that says Sam Bell is better than Semenyo is out of work or will be shortly.

Respect your opinion here but do not agree.

Sam Bell excelled under Nigel Pearson and was one of many that peaked under him no matter their age.

I’m rather encouraged by what I’ve seen so far with Manning. I know many won’t agree but that’s how I feel.

I am keen to separate the performances under Manning from the ridiculous decisions and comments from Jon, Brian & Gavin.

The reasons for sacking Pearson were, as we all know, spurious.
Their comments about top 6, top end, best squad etc etc were again, spurious.

I’ve said clearly on threads at that time that I will very much be judging the hierarchy on those comments and expectations.

However, I am not judging Manning on those same comments and expectations. I will judge Manning on what I see on the field.

In my opinion, the squad which Pearson had was a squad which I thought would be about 10th-15th, and would be one where we’d see less of the ball and be rather stodgy. A counterattack team which might get a few results against the grain but generally have less of the play but get enough results for mid table.
I wasn’t expecting any more than that.

With Manning, my expectations aren’t changing. I still think this is a mid table squad.
However, I am really encouraged (and frankly amazed) that he’s got this team playing dominant possession football and having twice as many chances as the opposition.
I actually really like how we’ve played so far. Yes, the results haven’t been there but I’ve enjoyed seeing a City team having 60%+ possession, looking like the better football team, being creative up front and making plenty of decent chances. I also liked today the battling qualities we showed - the 2nd half conditions were horrendous and we had to scrap for loose balls and aerials and we won more than our fair share - for once it seemed like the 2nd balls and ricochets mostly went our way, when can we ever say that as a City fan! Thats not luck. Its effort.

Yes, we could easily have won today. We could easily have won v Norwich. We could have got a point at Southampton. We didn’t. And that will rightly be questioned, but the performances, for me, have been encouraging.

Whatever Lansdown and Tinnion said, I will judge them at the end of the season. Failure is on their heads.
For Manning, I’m positively encouraged by how he’s managing to get this team playing - I like what I’ve seen so far. I don’t think we’re too far off. Most of the goals against haven’t been anything to do with system, shape, management etc they’ve mostly been basic individual errors.
Yes, those things will happen (they happened under Nige too). But overall I’m actually quite happy so far.

Basically as you were then apart from more ball and less conversion.

    So new players needed.

Same as the difference Nige needed.

    Deja vu all over again.

Been said before that right back is often the worst footballer, because if you are right footed and any good you would play in another position. Maybe a bit harsh, but Tanner does seem to struggle to see a pass or take the ball forward. The contrast with Pring on the left is marked. So if we have to have a back 3 without Atkinson or Naismith, then Vyner, Dickie and Pring seems the best option. I guess the concern then is playing Zak on the right and him getting caught out…

As an ex right-back I categorically deny this. I was excellent.

Surely any incoming head coach would want his own fingerprint/coach all over them?
