  1. I find it odd when anyone has “second teams” or build an affiliation with anyone other than our club.

I get that people may have fondness or family ties to other clubs but I could not care less about anyone other than Bristol City.

I watch other matches cause I love football, but I thought having a Prem team as a second club belonged to lifelong no-hopers like Bristol Rovers who all seem to love Liverpool for some reason.

Just my opinion - oh and yeah, Cole Palmer is some player.

  2. I find it a bit tragic that the club self-glorifies in basically being a feeder club to smaller, yet more successful, ambitious and well run clubs, rather than wanting to actually achieve anything here and now.

    Emperors Clothes nonsense.

    Regarding Culture.

For me, Pearson altered the way our players thought and acted on the pitch.

After several years under LJ who was tactically obsessive where he appeared to coach that every phase in a match should trigger a specific action or reaction from each player in the team.

This caused issues in that, due to that and other coaching factors, the players seemed to lose the ability to take responsibility for themselves and their team mates on the pitch and as seeing now, players became scared of making mistakes and ironically made more of them because of it.

Pearson changed this. He wanted our players to ‘all be leaders’ as the cliche says and made attempts to empower them to do that his focus was on general responsibility (rather than tactical responsibilities).

This was coupled with his desire to sort out the playing squad where there were a several players with attitudes that did not meet his standard (commonly accepted: Bakinson generally, Watkins not fancying training and Wells needing to remind himself how to be a good squad member are examples). This drove professionalism and team ethics. Lastly he made it clear that the disparity in wages was a hinderance to team dynamics and needed to be resolved.

Pearson also made the point that the whole club needed to be united and made more attempts to link the women’s team to the men’s.

The last time a manger changed our culture so drastically, he’d just taken over the mess left by our, now, Technical Director. Make of that what you will.

Manning is similar to Lee Johnson only his fixation is process as opposed to tactics. Ultimately the outcome, at this point, is the same.

It’s a legitimate argument to say that Pearson had achieved his remit and was therefore disposable, but his successor should have been far more attuned to the way our players had been coached to think and act.

Excellent post and said much better than me.

No, I've heard this said before but don't actually know what it means

I might need longer to explain it than I have this evening.

I will get back to you.

It starts with things being done very poorly by clueless people who do not achieve much, and then goes to things being done with integrity and honesty, the hard way, and with purpose despite all around him, and then goes back to the start again.

    Thats the short version.

Bit naive if u expected improvements so quickly. James/twine being out is a huge miss and that needs to be factored in. Can I ask how long it took Nige to improve the 'underlying stuff?'

Manning is not capable of sorting what Nigel Pearson did.

Pearson changed a culture which is massively different to coaching a set of players. We have lost that.

By the way, the same set of players that ran through walls for Nigel Pearson are now bickering and drifting around like strangers. No amount of time “on the grass” working on “distances” and “patterns of play” will change that.

He's not though has he? Given the programme of games we are either recovering from the last game or preparing for the next one.

Yes we have players that treat the ball like a hot potato-the only player in midfield that can handle the ball is James and he's out. Manning needs players to suit his style-then we will get control.

no I mean players being compact with the correct distances between them to close space-most managers have commended us on this. A good example was the first half vs Ipswich.

Your last sentence explains the problem in a nutshell-the fans were against this appointment from the start so are not giving him a fair crack imo

With respect, its rubbish football and you are looking for some sort of purist angle to justify the fact its just not very good.

Fans gave him a shot, we are abysmal to watch.

    Compact, distances, blah blah.

We do not score goals. We do not win points.

We lost v Ipswich by the way.

What scares me is if Manning goes it'll be Cisse, Mountain and Bell to the end of the season... Then we'll get 'Holdened', they'll get 3 year deals and we will find ourselves living the dream in league 1 once again.

The concern for me, I can't think of any manager I would want that would be willing to work under this absolute shit show of a structure and organisation

This is the nail on head post.

The “right” appointment was Nigel Pearson. But the regime hated him.

The “wrong” appointment is Liam Manning, but the regime love him and think he is the “right” appointment.

In other words, we are right in it.

The bed wetters need to calm down imo. Was always going to take time to transition from a counter attacking team to one that has control so it's not really a surprise we've had a downturn. Manning has had next to no time on the grass to implement his coaching so has prioritised out of possession work which has largely been good.

let's give him a pre season and a transfer window to try and get a few players that can handle the ball then see what he can do-if we haven't shown a tangible improvement by October then I agree he would need to go.

Stick some new sheets on and calm down!

Im sorry but much of this is nonsense.

He has had loads of time “on the grass”. Including once or twice a week for 90plus minutes where we look like a pub team without the goal threat.

Whats this “control” tactic you speak of? We cannot string a pass together mate.

Out of possession work? By that I guess you mean chasing shadows and conceding territory and goals? Yeah we have got much better at that since Liam The Coach came in.

Terrible appointment, never felt right and never will.

Not to get all philosophical after a few Madris but here goes.

This is the primary issue with the way football clubs are run near globally - there is a mealy mouthed attempt (at least in the UK) to weed out chancers but there's nothing really to stop a despot from running it exactly to his own whims once they're in power. God help you if they're established and have been there a while.

This is exactly it. What are we going to do? We all going to chuck a fiver in for a boat and storm Guernsey as an armed milita? There's NOTHING we can do to change the course if Lansdown decides this is how he wants to run it.

Nothing changes til the Lansdowns and their peons are given the heave ho into the river and replaced with some ambitious owners, and some staff with some actual experience, football nous, and ability. Til then, enjoy League One and low-end Championship football.

    Stop going.

    Stop buying.

    Its the only way.

  11. So whats everyone going to do then?

Turn up every week, get excited by the odd win in three?

Clap politely and be thankful for a really nice ground and a pleasant day out?

Buy into our youngsters that are pushed on us like they are actually Championship ready?

Laugh at some childish social media content?

As a fanbase we are so tepid and passive its untrue.

Its why these clowns are still in post and can afford to make these stupid decisions like the clubs core does not matter.

We are part of the problem.

If you were sat in a changing room listening to that boring **** how would that inspire you to play for him.

Basically he can't effect the game and blames everyone but himself.

Blokes out of his depth and must be replaced as soon as. Is he really going to take this club forward.

There's only one way he's taking us. If not this season then nailed on next season.

You would listen uninspired and then fall-back on his glittering “been there so must know his stuff” playing career.

Is it me or does he have a smugness about him

The air of a man that thinks he knows more than all of us and we are mere observers.

    An over-complicator and over-thinking analyser.

Does not look at league tables, does not listen to fans, does not show emotion or passion.

Strikes me as a type that has almost forgotten that football is about scoring more goals than the other team and may be happy with a series of 1-0 defeats for eternity as long as “principles, behaviours, passages of play, and press-points” were adhered to in line with his coaching ethos.

Coming across as pretty unrelatable and in complete conflict to what our club needed and needs right now.

Unreal mis-read by our shambles of a hierarchy.

    Just watched it.

Through blocking, pulling, etc, etc, he’s got Joe off balance so that he can’t jump / defend it.  I don’t think it’s him being weak per-se.

Its poor, and its cost us a goal but I see it as “shit happens”.  That’s sounds like I’m sitting on the fence, but I think as a collective it’s a bad goal.  We know the area they want to hit, can we block that better…at the expense of marking?

My thoughts too. Best set-piece record in the league, first corner, top scorer.

Surely you are doing all you can to avoid the obvious?

Thought Ng schooled him though. Joe had to fight there. How has he let him even get off the ground?
