  1. Im not as down as many seem to be about this.

Very very good player goes for over £20m to an average club who happen to currently be in a league above us.

The whole thing is underwhelming but we have not just let goals and goals and assists and assist walk out of the club for nothing when spending millions in the first place as we have with many over the last few years.

Was Scott a ray of light, yes. Did he win games on his own, maybe. Can we build in £20m profit, certainly.

Good price for a very good player but should galvanise us spent right.

I do think its an underwhelming move for him and I am City first and ex players second, but could look a poor move in 12 months time and might be back down The Gate sooner than we think out of the away dressing room.

  2. May have already been said, but could it be possible Scott was jarred off about not starting?

Could argue he has been our fulcrum all season, is fit again, and could reasonably have expected to start following a 0-2 reverse in which he played well after coming on?

Easily our best player, in a huff, and frustrated cause a losing side is not adjusted for him against one of the divisions top tests?

Not saying this is even close to it and the professionalism should still be there regardless.

    Just a thought. I suppose “head turned/on the beach/protecting a move/attitude problem” flies better.

  3. Incredible over-reaction on here to that.

Thought we controlled the game and their only tactic was to try and kick us out of it.

Front 3 being rotated does not help but they will click soon and I for one expect Mehmeti to be a big part of that. Some posters here really showing themselves up with their opinions on him by the way.

I think we look slightly “after the lord mayors” post Man City but expect us to despatch Blackpool Saturday relatively easily.

We have a small squad and the improvement they are making is encouraging. Cam Pring a real highlight.

No grey areas for some on here is there! Honestly baffles me.

  4. Just watching highlights through and off City topic kind of but wow, take a look at the shambles that Marlon Pack makes of Plymouths third. Could not have got it more wrong then has a pop at the poor keeper! Astounding display of how the game catches up on you.

  5. Been coming for years. Been to Goodison Park a few times and astounded at the naive and blinkered entitlement of the fans there.

Footballing knowledge and IQ in that lot is low, trust me. Living in the shadows of bigger neighbours for so long removes all common sense and rationale. Any of us unfortunate enough to have to share space and life with Rovers followers will know that. Same thing up there but with added Scouse bonkers-mindset.

  6. Biggest shock here is that we are still surprised that we have a number of “fans” that know very little about football. I know thats the case in a lot of clubs but we seem to have more than our share.

A topic for another day maybe, but we talk alot about the “culture” of our football club not being right, well there is an argument to say that about our fanbase too, and how fickle we can be. I wonder how wanted footballers feel at our club and if that disconnect stops us progressing.

Circa 2000 I sat in the Dolman and listened to - “Tony Thorpe is so lazy - apart from scoring he does nothing”.

    Always stayed with me that!

  7. Great interview.

In short this is a plea to us to stick with what he is trying to achieve, and timing is key here as its a very transparent honest interview. I think there may be some tough calls he is making soon and this is a pre-empt for us to understand and stick with.

This is also a manager saying not so subtly but in the right way that the entire culture of this football club was rotten and thats not an overnight thing. He is right of course, probably since Joe Jordan left us to be honest. The Cotterill glory era was an anomaly and he almost did it on his own away from the club and bought a set of players for a purpose and they developed their own culture. A glorious set of freak circumstances which of course got cut short when he got reigned back in.

Patience with NP whilst is cannot be unlimited is key. He is still untangling the massive mess he inherited.

  8. Great news for us.

Not many better we could bring in with the cost restraints we are currently under if we did not renew.

Model professional, suffered for joining us when we were a shambles but has never shirked or sulked even when unfairly (in my opinion) scapegoated for our abysmal performances.

Great partnership with TC which is exciting to watch continue develop over the next two years.

Almost certain that Semenyo is gone I would imagine now.

Tommy looks a bit out of touch, he’s having one of those periods break through players have.

Maybe cause he has not had his chosen strike partner to guide him through.

Wells/Conway have both been vocal about their partnership on and off the pitch, and had the goals and assists to back it.

Feels to me like that partnership was given up on oddly swiftly.

I know this likely won’t happen, but with the 5 subs rule, I don’t know why more managers aren’t using this in a tactical sense, much like they do in rugby.

For me, Semenyo is a brute and he has the potential to really scare defenders.
Why don’t we make him a ‘specialist brute’ and bring him on for 30-40 minutes in the 2nd half, against tiring defenders.

We’ve seen from his sub appearances this season that he can perhaps be more effective as the ‘impact’ sub rather than the starter.

I don’t know why more teams aren’t looking at the 5 subs and thinking about specialist players.

For example, in our current formation, I’d love to have seen 2 wing backs for each flank, run their backsides off and then switch them out. Dasilva gets 60 mins, Pring gets 30 mins, and then vice-versa the next game. Keeps them fresh, but also keeps them included. If a player knows he’s gonna get a game each week he’ll remain happy in the squad, rather than on the periphery.

With Semenyo, we could guarantee him 30-40 minutes every week, but sell it to him that it could potentially make him look like a better player, coming on vs tired defenders to brutalise them.

The 5 subs rule needs to be exploited tactically, in my opinion. You can basically sub half of the outfield players. This ought to provide a myriad of opportunities.

I agree and Semenyo is better used as an “impact sub” but he will want to start surely? Not sure its a sell.
