Yeh, the table settles quite quickly in general. There are normally one or two outliers - Forest last season for example - who go on a big climb or slide but they are the exception not the rule.

By the time you're at game 20ish - ie around Christmas - you're unlikely to see a team move more than 3 places in either direction.

So by the break for the World Cup we will likely have a good handle on how the table will finish and if we are playoff contenders. FWIW unless we are destabilised by the Jan window or have an horrific run of injuries I don’t think we will have a post Christmas collapse.

    Goals scored + 8

    Goals conceded + 5

    Points + 1

Interestingly (to me anyway) the 21/22 table at the end of September to the end of the season shows it taking shape at the top and bottom. Two of the top 3 going up automatically and 3 of the bottom four going down. Play off teams spread throughout.

I wonder if the current table shows similar?

Sheff Utd and Norwich to go up?

Relegation 3 from the current 6/8? You would imagine West Brom and Middlesbrough will climb the table. The others I’m not so sure.

    Nige on now. Some quotes.

We conceded goals which, we didn't make them work hard enough for.

We showed that we can compete, but its disappointing not to get points from either game.

We generally did pretty well and we created plenty of opportunities.

Our approach to the second half was to try to find a way to get a winner.

The players have showed a lot of endeavour today and have worked exceptionally hard again

We didn't find a way to get that equaliser.

We've given both teams this week a very.., they've been difficult games for our opponents.

Unfortunately we've come away with nothing, but have acquitted ourselves well.

We've done pretty well, we should be sitting on 17 points, 18 points, but we're not, the challenge is to get ourselves up and running in 2 weeks time.

Pretty fair minded and accurate summary IMHO.

Thank you , as far as I’m concerned , you’ve absolutely got it

Saves me repeating the same to @red colin, although I explained the same a couple of weeks back

You either drop him or persist and accept a risk / reward

Pearson will act,  if and when , he thinks the risk outweighs the reward

Simply moving him further forward is a cop out

He was recruited for a specific purpose

FWIW I think Naismith will improve his decision making in the medium term. He is clearly an intelligent footballer, but what most people don’t/ choose not to recognise that he is a baby in centre back terms. Certainly has not played regularly in the middle of a 3. He is central to so much that is good about our patterns of play. He has not quite got a handle on the extra risks of being last man but I’m sure it will come. When it does he will be phenomenal.

As an aside I can’t remember the last time I felt so positive after a defeat. Tonight is the performance that has convinced me we are genuine playoff contenders this season.

How you work that out? They scored more goals, so they deserve the win - They we’re poor but still beat us.

If only all our players were at it, Weiman was always a yard off the pace virtually the whole game & mistakes at the back cost us.

Frustrating when you know we can play much better.

Waited too long to bring on Semenyo

    Wow.

Talk about glass half empty. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it more Saturday when we give Burnley a spanking!

Still some way to go, but he must be delighted at the culture he’s creating / created so far.

I genuinely believe he will take us to the premier league. Probably not this season but it’s coming.

Is it really ‘the reckoning’ though? We can achieve a play off push without winning these two games and we can still mount a promotion charge but lose most games against parachute clubs this season. I wouldn’t be too concerned if we went into the international break having put up good performances and taken nothing from either game. We’d still be around the play offs. That won’t be the mentality of the squad but I don’t think we should put unnecessary weight behind these next couple games.

Totally agree. I will be very happy with two performances in which we compete. That in itself will show significant progression. Any points and that will be a serious bonus.

That’s definitely applies to my bowls club. We got promoted for the first time ever to Premier2 by playing attacking bowls.

As for me getting beaten in three semi finals, two of them were pairs and it was all my partners fault……..…….:whistle2:

Whoever runs the club must be a proper manager. Not only attacking bowls but a promotion to the premier league (2)!

  9. So have I got this correct?

Football (including all grass roots and kids) and boxing are cancelled. Rugby, cricket and golf go ahead tomorrow. Horse racing resumes on Sunday and to cap it off the Bears are playing Bath at Ashton Gate early Saturday evening.

Currently there is no indication of when football will return.

    Interesting….
