  1. That was a moment of prime tiki-taka. Haven’t seen any of that for years at City.
  2. As much as I understand the situation and the need to sell, my ire is that we sold to Bournemouth. Again. However, I still think the most sobering example of a player being poached by a “bigger” club was when Wayne Allison went to Swindon.
  3. Bents, I hope you understand that my total and complete contempt for Wolves means I wish nothing but abject misery as far as result and performances go. Other than that, I hope you have a great time.
  4. I definitely want Semenyo to stay but have to give the current incumbents the chance to make the deal they think is best for City. I don’t really mind how much he goes (or doesn’t) for so long as we have a definite plan for life without him. Continuity planning is absolutely vital and the lack of it over the years is almost always the cause of a spiralling wage bill and dire performances.
  5. “When Swansea come to us, here, they always have their door open and play Welsh music, with a big speaker. We have to listen to their stuff, so I’ve already given Scotty an English folk music playlist to play when we go to Swansea on Tuesday. So I think they’ll have to get ready for some really poor English folk music streaming from their tunnel, which, I think, is rather nice.” Chefs kiss to that one, Nige.
  6. Keane had a bit of a spat with Souness during the World Cup. I suspect it has something to do with that!
  7. From my experience, many South American players quite often play close to the edge (there were a couple of fairly naughty hits on Gakpo and Depay off the ball early, for example) and if the referee loses the respect of the players, as clearly happened last night, the other team, whoever they are, generally will reciprocate, whether that is the right thing to do or not. We see it more from Argentina largely because they regularly reach the later stages of the World Cup, IMHO.
  8. No doubt he’ll be The Jerk when all is said and done.
  9. The irony being their theme completely rips off Handel’s ‘Zadok The Priest’ which was written for George II’s coronation in 1727 and has been sung at every British Monarch’s coronation since.
  10. Like Diego Maradona but usually started on the bench.
  11. If there was any doubt go to 40:45
  12. Both of Garry Nelson's books are excellent. Left Foot Forward and Left Back in the Grave. Rick Gekoski's account of Coventry City's 97/98 season, Staying Up, is absolutely hilarious as well. I can't believe a Premier League (at the time) football club allowed some random American the access that he had.
  13. Ellen White’s play reminds me so much of Gary Lineker. Movement, burst of pace and finishing. Just as I type that she lets herself down a bit! For once, Lucy Bronze is not obviously the best player on the pitch either, which is a rarity.
  14. A pint of lager, a gin and tonic and a Bailey’s chaser will make anyone feel bilious.

Never nice to be the one to give the ball away and allow the opposition to counter attack but we are so static, just stood around expecting one of us to dribble through the entire Israel team.
  16. I seem to remember this was while Davison was in charge, so 96-98 time. It may have even been after his original plans to redevelop the Williams. I don’t think it ever got beyond it being identified as a location for a new stadium though.
  17. Bearing in mind we released him last summer and Milton Keynes Dons released him this summer... sell-ons are right out (much like counting to 5 when about to lobbeth the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch). Seriously, we might be due some sort of development fee if Notts County were to sell him for money, but it would be miniscule (1% if that). Pretty sure we signed him as an 18 year old from FGR too, which would take even more money out of our pocket. How unreasonable.
  18. Knowing Ashley (albeit only the persona portrayed by the media) it won’t be generous!
  19. As someone who has followed the story with a a growing opinion that Q are basically chancers it’s hard not to think that Mike Ashley, as truculent and difficult as he obviously is, is probably right, if the above story is true! Bearing in mind the situation, if I were a Derby fan I would be furious that Ashley was being blocked. That man knows how to run a football club within its means, after all, as much as he was criticised for it.
  20. Madrid are so upset they’ll have to sell their training ground to the Spanish government and get a new one for free to make up for it.
  21. Wycombe replacing Derby has a certain karma about it.
