  1. Reminds of a way a friend of mine handled Jeovah's Witnesses once. He greeted them with "thank God you're here", invited them in (which probably put them off-guard anyway), hurried them through to the kitchen, pointed at the cooker and said "there it is, how long do you need to fix it?". They made their apologies and scarpered.
  2. I had one a few months ago. I let them get to "when did the accident take place?" and replied with "next Tuesday, I know that's when she goes to collect her pension."
  3. I'd throw in encouraging people to switch to online shopping where possible. With the caveat that from my own experience of trying to get delivery slots with Tesco, the system is already stressed to the hilt, and any extension of service would require significant additional numbers of suitable trucks and qualified drivers. This might free up space in physical stores to those who are unable to access online and assist with creating the necessary social distancing, etc.
  4. Yesterday I didn't think Trump could be any more of a thunderc>nt. Today, this:
  5. Presently working through my last Wine Society delivery, a case of "big reds"
  6. That sounds a lot like socialism. Presumably all the small-government free-marketering types won't want to claim.
  7. During the election campaign and until a few weeks back I had learned to despise Sunak's toadying manner. He has grown on me a little recently. Seems to be stepping up more than Johnson.
  8. Missed part of Johnson's last bit: has he said pubs etc must close or should close?
  9. Just announced the critical incident has been stood down. Good news I guess.
  10. Tweet covering Trump's presser earlier. Scroll down for some priceless facial expressions of various reporters in response to OAN's question.
  11. Apologies for misquote. Edit: live feed text from Guardian: He says he wants to talk today about the timescale for this.
  12. As much as I wanted this to be true, sadly it doesn't appear to be. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/mar/19/facebook-posts/no-trump-didnt-say-people-are-dying-who-have-never/
  13. Johnson announced that we should be through this in 12 weeks. His face when actually asked what that meant suggested he hadn't actually considered he would need actual facts to support his assertion.
  14. Good to see the Queen has weighed in to say the world is facing a period of uncertainty. Personally I hadn't realised until she announced it.
  15. Having just watched Trump's efforts an hour ago, I'll say this for Johnson, at least it seems he actually has an inkling of understanding of the issues. Low bar for comparison, I know.
  16. Time for today's presser. Tune in people. Just announced that Italy's death toll is now higher than China's. On less than 50% of confirmed cases. Sad stuff.
  17. I noticed the other day that Channel 4 Player, or whatever it is called, is putting up all the seasons of Seinfeld. Certainly an acquired taste, and not everyone will find it funny, but for me a great show.
  18. I think as someone pointed out earlier, situations like we are presently facing show not only the very best but also the very worst in people.
  19. To me that would be a hollow argument when weighed against the obvious risk of sending thousands of athletes, officials, and support staff from across the globe to mingle in 1 confined area. (and not saying for one moment that that is your view Loco)
