    Runners!

Sounds like you're well on the way to your first Half. It'll be a sweet feeling when you cross the line for that one. I've actually started listening to podcasts when I run. I even sometimes listen to running podcasts when running! Have you considered joining a running club? Isn't there a Southville one? I was initially dead against running with other people but since joining one last year I've learnt a lot and enjoy the bants.

Sorry to hear about all the crap you've had to deal with mate. Running can be quite punishing, but it really is good for the mind as well as the body. I know what you mean about the silverware! That moment of crossing the line, and then having the memento to remind you of what you've achieved is definitely a big motivator for me. I certainly don't always enjoy running, but part of the appeal is that battle against the body's resistance. It's like a fight sometimes. You should definitely to a marathon next year. Managing the calf problem will be a challenge though. You might have to take the training quite seriously and do proper warm ups and warm downs, and regular exercises ( all the stuff I really should do, but don't have time for, then complain when my tendons get niggles!). The calf exercise I know about is the one where you stand on a stair, facing the stair case and lower your heel up and down of the edge of the step. You feel it working. Imagine how you'll feel when you get 26.2 under your belt! Re Swansea half - that was my PB so has a place in my heart. Funny how your experience will have given you a very different feeling for it!

Wise words! The great thing about running is you don't need to worry about much more than that. It's simple, and you can just get out there and run.

Running shops can be frustrating because they often don't advertise the price. They try to find what shoe you like first, then reveal the price last. Gait analysis always worthwhile and doesn't take long. If they find you a shoe that feels great you can always skulk off and try to find the show cheaper online, or even choose the last years model. Obviously, if money is no issue then definitely go to a specialist running shop like up and running or Easy Runner and get yourself a tip quality shoe. I wear Saucony, but only because they feel better for me than Brooks or other brands.

Winds are a killer. I did Bournemouth, and what should be a pleasant sea front stretch of several flat miles turned out to be a battle against a headwind. I was drained of energy before getting to the the climbs.

Really good times mate! I've never done a 10k but reckon I'd struggle to go sub 40. My PB half was 1:31 and always wanted to go sub 1:30. Good for you keeping it up. That's a lot of marathons! You must enjoy it. Any marathons particularly stand out?

    Runners!

After Eliud Kipchoge's incredible achievement this morning, today is probably a good day to see how many runners we have on OTIB. Do you run? If so, what have you done, what do you have planned? Let's talk running...
  12. Remarkably... “Spence is awake and responding and is listed in stable condition,” his representatives said in a statement. “He didn’t sustain any broken bones or fractures but does have some facial lacerations. He is expected to make a full recovery.
  13. Did you see that video in which two cars drove past without stopping to help Errol? Unconfirmed reports that it was Danny Garcia in the first car and Shawn Porter in the second. They slowed down just enough to grab a belt each...
  14. Question is, was Richard Keogh in the car...? Too soon?
  15. That's amazing. I hope he recovers and fights again whilst still in prime. I also hope he wasn't drinking because then I'd lose all respect for him.
  16. Errol Spence Jr in a serious car crash. From the info released, sounds like he was driving at speed, lost control, flipped, wasn't strapped in and was thrown from the car. You'd expect he's sustained some serious injuries. Let's hope it doesn't have too significant impact (no pun intended this time) on his career. IF he was reckless, it could be something he lives to have grave regrets about.
  17. That was quite funny, and seing AJ dismantled was a fascinating watch. Off on a tangent...As much as I think WWE is a pathetic excuse for entertainment, I think Fury doing it is a PR masterstroke, and his profile in the US will get a massive boost. He's a bigger name over there than Joshua already (I reckon) and he'll sell more PPV with this stunt. He's great at schoolboy amateur dramatics too so is probably doing a better job that half the wrestlers. If Fury can keep winning I can see him being a bigger hit (pun intended) than any of the big British names of recent decades.
  18. You're always welcome to disagree buddy, and I always value your opinion on all boxing matters. I think if Dubois winds up winning the European belt, then moves on to top 20 opponents, he'll be happy with his progress. Fury is satisfying his big money contract, and if he gets that rematch with Wilder, he'll be on track for greatness. The Wallin fight was good entertainment too. Yarde admittedly was served up some obscurity, albeit with winning records, but he/we got a humdinger with Kov.
  19. Definitely with those two, and Khan too I seem to recall? But Dubois I'm okay with so far. Gorman was a test and there are a few obvious domestic and overseas learning fights still to be had. In this age of fast-tracking I think a 22 year old heavyweight should be eased in. Plus, why rush to top level when the top fighters are so dangerous? If he times it right, he'll be ready to inherit their crowns just as father time starts to catch up in them.
  20. To be fair, he found a good opponent for Adams and that deserves a rematch. The mighty mullet vs the Irishman was a well-matched, if scrappy, contest, and whilst the headline fight was a pushover, Ol' Fish Eyes has been teeing up the belts for Dubois very nicely. Add to that the organ music... Dubois has now picked up the English, British, Commonwealth and WBO International whilst being given plenty of starter fights to ease him in. Gorman was a genuine test and you'd expect a few more of those now. Warren has driven me mad with his over-protective match-making with past fighters, but with Fury, Dubois and Yarde he's done a good job. By the way, I think Sam Noakes looked technically sound in the under card, and I'll keep an eye on him.
  21. Defo recommend catching it on YouTube. Really good fight.
  22. Just watching it on YouTube now. Nice KD in R1. Body/head combo
  23. I didn't see it but I'm schocked by the result. At 40 he shouldn't be able to beat a 30 year old champ at the top of his game. Big respect to Mani! If he now beats Khan and one other name he's really put the icing on thr legacy cake.
  24. There's plenty of body to aim for for Whyte! Hmmm...5 months for AJ to regain his mojo... as I said, the reach and power are already there. Just use the buggers this time! But if it's a serious headspace problem, and not just an offnight, then who knows how he'll get on. Re AJ, warning signs were there against Parker and Takam. He didn't really rise to those challenges as we expected. I sometimes wonder if instinctive violence is his comfort zone and he's best off not trying to think his way through fights. That's not to say he isn't smart because clearly he is relatively intelligent and articulate, but some fighters aren't great at the duality of battle mode and chess player mode, like Fury or Lennox arguably can/could. Maybe he's better keeping it simple; use your reach, hammer the jab, and bash em with the big right when it feel right. Sorry, brainspew over...
  25. Funnily enough, I'm not an AJ disciple, and if anything more enamoured with Fury, especially now that he's cleaned his act up. But being as objective as I can, I think an on song Joshua beats an up for it Ruiz jr. Do you think Ruiz Jr beat Whyte?
