  1. Remember him only too well. He was the beginning of the end for FGR and me. Hockaday alone for 4 years was bad enough but add Dale Vince to the equation and there was no coming back. He was out of his depth at FGR and was eventually sacked, so how the Leeds thing happened is still totally beyond me even now. The funny thing was at the time he went to Leeds, if you Googled him the number one result was a clip of apoplectic FGR supporters giving him severe verbal abuse at Grays Athletic after being relegated from the Conference (later reprieved after off the field shenanigans). It takes a lot to get FGR supporters even mildly annoyed.
  2. You know, like I said, you know, in terms of, like I said, outcomes, you know, that's the biggest bit.
  3. I remember the windy one, 1-0 to Rovers I think? Goalkicks were ending up heading backwards towards the keeper. There was a shunt on the M32 right behind the away terrace which must have been so embarrassing for the drivers being how they were jeered by a couple of thousand City fans. In my memory, that was the last Derby game at Eastville but I must be wrong if it is the one featured above.
  4. York City higher average gate than Wolves! This was when Wolves were following City in plummeting from Div 1 to Div 4 in consecutive seasons.
  5. I'm not quite that old! It was around the time Canvey won the FA Trophy when they beat FGR. The combination of unplayable ground and extra Trophy games meant they had a huge backlog.
  6. I've got a vague memory of Canvey Island once having to play 2 games on the same day once due to fixture backup. If ever there was a club most likely to flood it was them. Right next to the Thames and in the ground it felt like you were below the river, due to the huge dykes along the river bank.
  7. I agree don't think it affects FFP/PSR. It's just a case that if someone thinks that a 40% share in Ipswich is worth £110 million then that's their choice and their potential loss. I can think of a lot less risky options than investing in a football club!
  8. Actually we both did them a grave mis-service The official figure was 126 taken from their 'guess the crowd' thread on GasChat. I for one can only apologise for besmirching their good name. Man City fans can only bow down at this sort of following.
  9. Yep right up there with Newcastle, Man City. Renowned around the world. Took 125 to Fleetwood.
  10. I'll raise you Jimmy Lumsden; took over a very good Joe Jordan Division 2 (Championship in modern terms) team, turned it into a relegation battle in just over a year and got rid of Bob Taylor. Interestingly I don't think he ever managed again but was a successful Coach under David Moyes for a long time.
  11. I must have worked with her as I worked at Central Middx Hospital 1984-1987! The name must have been a bit of a commentators nightmare, like Fonguck currently at Southend!
  12. Actually you could argue all 3 of these teams made an unnecessary managerial change (and Sunderland who are 5th bottom of this table). Rotherham have certainly got even worse after sacking Matty Taylor and he kept them up last season, which has to be seen as a success. Will anyone learn from this? I doubt it.
  13. It would actually help if he (LM) actually explained specificall in plain English what he actually means when he says 'emotions', 'processes', 'chasing outcomes' etc. They're just nebulous words/phrases that could mean just about anything
  14. The manager seems to be doing very well there, taking into account all that's been going on off the field. If they don't get any more deductions they should stay up this season.
  15. My feeling too. I don't think it's coincidence that SL has been back in town for last 2 games. I think he might have been gone if we had lost to Swansea and if we get a hammering v Leicester.
  16. It has to be Plymouth or us although they had a couple of flirtations with relegation to non-league recently but have never played top flight football. Palace have always struck me as a pointless club and have also never won anything of note. A bit like us but usually one league higher. Even just briefly trying to remember anything exciting about them and the only things that came to mind were the FA Cup Semi Final v Liverpool in 1990 and the Cantona Kung-Fu incident!
  17. 3 of the bottom 5 made unnecessary manager changes...
  18. Bristol football, it's great! Getting on for 300 years combined and nothing of note achieved.

Yes in terms of making things worse I think you have to go back to Jimmy Lumsden to rival Liam Manning.
  20. Yes I don't think it's coincidence that SL is back in town. I sensed LM might have been gone if we lost to Swansea. He'll survive Leicester unless we get absolutely battered but after that he could and should be on borrowed time. Yes I don't think it's coincidence that SL is back in town. 21. If you're even half-fit, the best place to park is Nailsworth centre, around the bus station and walk up Spring Hill. It's steep but not that bad, so it is good exercise and will take about 15 mins. After the game, it's almost always quicker to walk back down the hill than to drive.
  22. As the Gas proved, you can never celebrate staying up until it's mathematically certain. We'd probably have to go the rest of the season without a win but..........
  23. Best one for this is I'm on Fire by Bruce Springsteen from Born in the USA. If you play the LP at 45rpm it sounds uncannily like Dolly Parton!
  24. Available on catch-up. Sound of the City - 11/03/2024 - BBC Sounds
  25. It was comical but to be fair to him, he clearly slipped as he was taking it.
