  1. It was comical but to be fair to him, he clearly slipped as he was taking it.
  2. Well if our manager had been dead for the last 4 games, we wouldn't have got any less points.
  3. To boost optimism, Swansea coach Luke Williams presided over this Notts Co defensive masterclass earlier in the season.
  4. So to sum up; it's all going well apart from the results, so nothing to worry about. I'm glad we cleared that up. Also if you took "like I said" and "to be fair" out, the interview would be about half the length.
  5. I wonder how many people know that Jon Lansdown has Economics and Management degree from Southampton University? It's one of the better traditional UK universities, so he would have needed decent A Levels to get in, regardless of his family's wealth. Whether that makes him qualified to be Chairman of Bristol City is an entirely different thing but he's neither stupid nor thick.
  6. Plymouth have had some tough fixtures recently; Ipswich, West Brom, Leedsx3 and I think their really strong home form should keep them up. Worrying that we have to go there and they won't be resting 7 players this time.
  7. Yes whatever the positive version of a perfect storm is, they are having it. Combination of good coach, a set of players that perfectly fit the system they play, momentum, few injuries and dare I say it, given who, is involved great recruitment. Still think Leeds and Leicester will be top two though but Ipswich have comeback from their tough spell hugely impressively.
  8. Yes I have a bit of an obsession with Scottish lower league football (let's face it the SPL is the most boring league anywhere!) East Kilbride have been knocking on the door for a few years now and the Lowland League teams generally are a bit stronger than Highland, so it could be their year this year. I do like the idea of the bottom team having a last chance saloon to stay in the league through the play-off.
  9. Massimo Luongo a regular starter too - a bit above average L1 player with Swindon in our promotion season 10 years ago.
  10. It should surely be possible to make a profit from the Rugby? There's a salary cap, the attendances are close to the football and there is effectively no relegation for an indefinite period. No relegation for definite this season but there are basically no clubs in the levels below that have the finances/assets for promotion. So unless Wasps or maybe London Irish get back to the top level, effectively it's a closed shop. So you could put a very cheap young side together and take the hit in results without any danger of relegation. Newcastle I guess are doing something like this? Ealing Trailfinders who are comfortably the 'best of the rest' have and would turn down promotion IIRC?
  11. It's getting to the point where we might have to need players to 'play through the pain' in order to stay up? I've said before but look at Southend this season, operated with a 14 man squad because they were a financial shambles, from August to January. You cant tell me that they weren't playing players who medically shouldn't have been playing. They also made up a -10 point deduction
  12. A loss is a loss. We lose to the poor teams, we lose to the good teams and now we're only 6 points off 2nd bottom. Struggling to see anything positive. Lose to Swansea and I think it'll be the end for Manning as we'll get nothing from WBA or Leicester.
  13. They certainly have but I fear they're going to regret losing to Sheff Utd big time. Unless FFP comes to their favour.
  14. He could certainly terrify defenders but rarely goalkeepers sadly. He was great until he got into the penalty area but then people in row Z would start to duck. Actually can't remember if his crossing was any good? but my abiding memory is of the ball flying into the stand.
  15. As much as I dislike him, I think I'd trust LJ more than LM in the current situation! The streaky bit meant that you'd think there was a chance we'd go on a winning run again at some point. The tombola would eventually spew out an effective line-up. LM hasn't actually got out of a downward spiral. At MK he didn't and was sacked, at Oxford they bumbled along with a few draws and eventually beat FGR. So far here we've, until the last 3 games, just bumbled along again. He doesn't seem to know how to change anything, I cant see anything other than defeat tomorrow and following on from that, a repeat of Cardiff against Swansea and then the sack. Praying for a miracle tomorrow and I'm an atheist!
  16. Tbh he's kept Rovesr away from the relegation battle pretty much single-handedly but he wasn't 'free' as such, his salary will be probably the highest in the squad. Good luck to him, he did Ok at City. Could he still get goals in the Championship? Well he got 4 from 16 games in a truly dire QPR team earlier this year so not out of the question but it would have to be from the subs bench.....
  17. Ironically I think Mebude was signed with TC in mind (they've played together when with Scotland I think?). The way that's working out, they'll be lucky if they get more than 5 mins on the pitch together.
  18. Exactly this; arrogance and complacency in equal measures. I was alarmed when the 'signings for next season' strategy was publicly stated. There was never a guarantee which league we'd be playing in next season. I wasn't expecting QPR and Sheff Wed to put up the fight they have done admittedly but there's always a chance at least one of the teams at the bottom will put a few wins together. Equally if we'd somehow got promoted (yeah it's a bit of a stretch but) we'd be going to the EPL with L1, National League and League of Ireland players!
  19. Oxford 22-23 took over with 10 games left and Oxford in 19th - finished 19th I mentioned this elsewhere, *Oxford stayed up last season by he skin of their teeth because they beat FGR in the last but one game. FGR have been the worst team in the EFL for the last 2 years and an absolute gift for struggling teams (see yesterday). If it hadn't been for that game Oxford could very easily have been relegated on the last day and he wouldn't even have been of any interest to BCFC or any Championship club. So basically we hired someone largely due to a victory over FGR! Sliding doors moment. *They also thrashed Cheltenham in the game before FGR. Cheltenham were on the beach having just ensured League 1 survival against the odds and had probably been on the lash for a few days. I have no sympathy for him, no-one forced him to take this job, he knew he had zero Championship experience and would have known there was a risk it wouldn't work out.
  20. I'm not usually one for knee-jerk reactions but I'm very worried this guy is taking us down this season.
  21. I was at Hull University in 1989 with a guy from Dewsbury who knew Alan Nicholls. I remember him asking me if I remembered him at the time and I didn't even back then because my first game was 1984 after his time! I think I was only eventually able to confirm it when the 'BCFC Complete Record' book came out. This same bloke (my friend not Alan Nicholls) had this idea to put a false football career on his CV. A sort 'made a couple of sub appearances and got a career ending injury' type thing as a conversation starter. Of course in those pre-internet days he'd almost certainly got away with it as the only records would have been with the club or FA.
  22. Yes I'm sure he did mean MK but LM did come perilously close to getting relegated at Oxford last season. They were admittedly in a downward spiral when he took over but it was only a win over FGR in I think the penultimate game, which I think ensured safety. I mean I think I could manage a team to beat FGR in the last couple of seasons!
  23. This could be a total car-crash years in the making, crack open the popcorn...... I'm sure it's a typo (right!) but the Bristol Live write-up currently states the following:- Given their backgrounds in real estate, the Kuwaitis always saw the infrastructural possibilities of the Gas as a major driver that led them to eventually invest significantly but for them, it's now just about fast-tracking Rovers up the divisions recklessly, it's about ensuring that the foundations are laid for the club to stay where they are if they're promoted.
  24. Dancing in the streets of Banks O'Dee tonight as they hit the top of the competitive Highland League! Interesting story; survived a 24 point deduction last season which was their first ever at that level when they replaced the hapless Fort William. Romantic name but it's a leisure centre in Aberdeen and they get players from Aberdeen FC I think. Not sure if they'd be allowed into the SFL if they won the league and the play off?
  25. Needs 3 points from the next 3 games absolute minimum IMHO. Less than that and I think the trigger will be pulled as we'd likely be 5 points or so off bottom going into games against WBA and Leicester.
