  1. 1920, I think, due to the Newport goalie being pelted with missiles and receiving a right hook. Not much change then!
  2. Surely time for Pulisball next? One of the major hoof ball dinosaurs they haven’t tried, and he’s almost a local boy (though not sure how Newport and Cardiff folks get along!)
  3. He was an out and out winger who averaged a goal every ten games. AS hasn’t done that or provided many assists. But, as you say, let’s hope he does. AS is, so far, more cultured, but far less effective. JB does not deserve the demeaning comments or mockery that some come out with.
  4. I was fully expecting a straight replacement of Pring by O’Dowda on the day, and I think that will come. I’d like to see COD with the encouragement to take risks going forward. He can be really exciting - but so rarely is.
  5. Joined us aged 20 and was so “underwhelming” that he played nearly 200 league games over 7 years for us and scored 20 goals on top of his crosses/assists. Let’s hope Semenyo one day matches that.
  6. His style is nothing like Junior Bent’s - and so far, he is nothing like as effective. Unfulfilled promise so far.
  7. Promising, but I think Kebano coming on showed the class he may struggle against at this level.
  8. “a couple of familiar faces in their squad” That Mawson chap was soon forgotten then!
  9. There was a large group who loathed LJ as a player and he was never going to get any objective assessment from lots of those from day one. People may have forgotten how divisive his reputation was even in those days.
  10. Ooh interesting. It’s been grey for a few days but is now back to red on my phone!
  11. Yeah, really difficult to call. One has been breezing past really good players without losing a set. The other has been beating even higher ranked players but by scrapping and struggling through three sets. Emma seems to be very mature tactically, though, and if Leyla has a weakness (which I read that she has) then Emma could well fix on it and exploit it to the full.
  12. Haven’t they got rid of more than they’ve signed?
  13. I'm just happy to see us competing in games and deserving something out of them again. ut winning is a bonus!
  14. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more inappropriate comparison! How is TM like Tomlin? The latter is more like a poor man’s Gazza - innate talent but too thick to have any self control.
  15. I see Gaschat had to lock down their Exeter matchday thread after some charming comments about JB which one of the mods rather amusingly called "fragrant disregard of the house rules". Smelly, yes, fragrant, no.
  16. Fly into Pisa from Bristol and its also an easy train journey to Florence for Fiorentina (and one of the world's great little cities too).
  17. Kept off bottom place by the alphabet.
  18. I’m not watching but all the comments say we have been abysmal, yet BBC stats show we’ve had 61% possession. So presumably we haven’t been overrun?
  19. Where has this amazing bromance with “Nige” come from? Are you related? Either that or it’s like a teenage crush. Get a grip.
  20. And Pearson is fair game given his snide attitude to the press so far. His record with us so far doesn’t warrant his arrogance.
  21. I read one article (Guardian, I think*) that said JB is a long time resident of Kew. He could presumably afford it. I doubt he still lives in Huyton. *it was. The police described him as “of Widnes”, so presumably has two or more homes.
  22. Yep. Terry planning ahead for the opportunity of a lifetime!
  23. Well this is all very intriguing. I’ve known I was slightly colour blind since I was a teenager. At the time, it was a bolt from the blue (to coin a pun). Like many others, I was tested at school, with a book of pictures made up of circles of different colours. Some of the images were blindingly obvious (sorry about the puns) but the majority just looked like pleasing groups of various pastel shades, so I couldn’t make out the various numbers or whatever were represented. I could, though, tell that the colours were different. Seeing as there were a lot of those I couldn’t differentiate, clearly my “slight” colour blindness is more acute than I admit. However, without that test, to this day I don’t think I’d have known. I have no issues with true red and green or any other practical problems. My only colour issues are when I choose a garment in a clothes shop and can’t decide whether it’s green or brown. I remain convinced there is a greenish brown shade that is somewhere in the middle. But no doubt people with normal colour vision see a clear distinction I don’t. So for those with normal colour vision - there are a lot of colour blind people out here that barely know it and who rarely run into any practical issues because of it. We don’t know what it is we can’t see.
  24. I know. I blame the groundsman. Or it could be the drink.
