Spiny Lobster out of the two.

My partners birthday next week too, and looking for some suggestions. We live in Southville, and ideally would like to walk within 30mins. Any suggestions?

    Cor in bedminster?

I was sure it was happening, even discussed it when we were in Bath recently.  I must have seen the advert and not noticed the venues for this year.
Real shame , hadn't been for a while so was keen to go back.

I believe they’ve whittled it down to about 4 locations now. Marlow obviously being one of them. They struggled to get vendors for Bath last year. Nowhere near as many as the previous year. Such a shame. May try to get to the Marlow one next year. Always had the best restaurants/chefs and music acts compared to the other locations.

  3. I like Phil. His series has certainly made me want to visit places I’d not really thought of going to before. As mentioned before, Lisbon looks incredible and I’ll get there in the future. In the new series, Edinburgh and Washington DC look great.
I loved Bourdain. Thought he was so cool. His series were a bit more political and highlighted the negative affects that tourism had on places. Made me not want to visit the places he’d been to 😂 He obviously had his own demons and that made him come across like he was a glass half empty kind of guy. Somebody feed Phil is a bit more cheerful but I’d probably rather sit and listen to Bourdain talk in his unique style.

  4. Lisbon is high on my list purely down to the series “Somebody Feed Phil” on Netflix. He also ate at Ponto Final. Looked incredible. If you’ve not seen the series, at least have a look for that Lisbon episode. Certainly looks like a foodies heaven over there

Really good thanks. Could not fault it at all, in fact.

Group of 6 of us and enjoyed excellent service throughout the meal. Delicious Jersey rock oysters (with the Picpoul again!) Followed by the scallops in a beautiful buttery Source. The best course for me probably was the ox cheek, that was perfectly tender (pic below). Then finished with the chocolate mousse which lived up to the hype!

Also has sides of the hispi cabbage and the aligot, the latter of which is unlike anything I've had before really.

Maybe my only complaint is that by the end I was stuffed, an inevitable consequence of so much rich and hearty food. Along with a fair bit of vin...

All the food was beautifully presented too, which isn't always the case with traditional cooking.

When a place appears on a show called "Remarkable Places to Eat" you kind of fear the worst, but whilst "remarkable" is a very high bar to reach, it was certainly an excellent venue showcasing some very talented chefs and high quality ingredients.

Glad you enjoyed it. I’ve certainly never left there feeling I could eat a bit more. We usually end up with lots of aligot left over as everybody usually wants 1 to themselves even though the waiting staff do suggest that 1 between 2 is plenty 😂. Their little shop & pantry at the end of the road does some pretty fantastic sandwiches, burgers, cakes and pastries too which I’d definitely recommend if in the area and peckish.

  6. The chocolate mousse is fantastic. The crème brûlée too. I’ve had cote de boeuf, trout, lamb and hake in there. They change the menu quite a bit. None of them disappointed. The aligot and pomme frites are great sides. Usually have the scallops to start as they never disappoint. The wine list is great also. Be interesting to hear your thoughts once you’ve been.

Bloody babysitter cancelled last minute so didn't make it! I actually spoke to the owners of Pasture on Sunday though, and they went and said it was fantastic. So, I'm going to have to make an effort to go in the next couple of weeks.

Booked in for my first visit, also for my birthday, in May.

My first visit to Little French this evening. Have heard mixed things so we shall see how it goes....

That’s a shame. If Sam from pasture rates it then it must be decent. Got a roast booked in at pasture in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait.

littleFrench is my favourite restaurant in Bristol. Been 4 times. Love it in there. Enjoy.

That does sound nice. What is monkey wrap though?

I did think after posting that someone might question the monkey wrap 😂

    Monkey Wrap

An open roti wrap with succulent, charred tandoori chicken, jewels of pomegranate, spinach, mint & that crazy rainbow of homespun Mowgli chutneys.

  9. Went to Mowgli’s today for lunch. Had read mixed reviews on Tripadvisor but tend not to pay much attention unless they’re all really bad. We had the monkey wrap, the Himalayan cheese toast, the treacle tamarind fries which were fantastic, lamb chops, butter chicken and the prawn curry with some roti’s and rice. All in all, was really tasty. Lovely venue. Both curry’s were really tasty. It’s all small plates so you need to order 3 or 4 dishes each and we shared everything. Very instagram friendly venue and food presentation but enjoyable food too. Probably won’t rush back as there’s plenty of other restaurants on the list currently but did say to the wife that if we came back I could easily and happily pick 6 or 7 completely different dishes as the menu nearly all sounds great. Worth a visit.

Has anyone tried Bandook in Wapping Wharf? Another Indian street food place with great reviews. Will visit there before I’d go back to Mowgli.

  10. He’s not going until we are in the bottom 3 and looking like a gap is starting to appear. Even then they might try to tell us that he’d be the best man to get us out of league 1. Getting rid before that is admitting they’ve got it wrong.

Always felt he gave his best. That dip in form was dramatic but his career carried on. Good luck to him in his retirement.

is anyone else from our team of that era still playing? Can’t think of anyone off the top of my head.

Nicky Maynard playing for Macclesfield. Steven Caulker player manager of Malaga City apparently. Fonts played with a young Bobby DeCordova Reid, Joe Bryan and Wes Burns. Caulker and Fontaine were a cracking pairing for that one season. Thought Liam was a really classy footballer. Was sad to see him go through such a drop in form and the criticism he received during that time.

In my 35 years of supporting City never have I seen a manager set up to fail quite so badly by the top brass. I said it at the time of his appointment that he’d been dealt a poisoned chalice and it’s playing out exactly as I hoped it wouldn’t.

So let’s try to remember that none of this is Manning’s fault. He took a lucrative job that none of would have turned down and none of us can blame him for taking. I’m sure he and his team are trying their very best.

Fortunately I lost my mojo for Bristol City when Nige was sacked. I saw it before with Cotterill and history has repeated itself. I say fortunately because I find myself really not caring too much about our games, how we’re performing etc. I find it sad I feel like this, but it helps eliminate the problem of the City result ruining your weekend - which I suspect is how many of you feel right now.

But I suppose my main point is try not to get on Manning’s back. It’s not his fault.

I’m grateful for the investment the Lansdowns have made, our new stadium is brilliant and we’re in a really good place off the pitch. But I think we’ve definitely run our course now, and with my very best wishes it’s time they sold up and left. And if they wouldn’t mind taking their mate Bri with them at the same time, that’d be ideal. They’re getting the comeuppance they deserve in spades. Completely out of their depth.

I suppose you could sum up my feelings on them the same way they dealt with Nige. You feel the need to gamble on something new, yeh, it could well be worse, but it’s probably worth the gamble.

I feel the same as you although my interest died after LJ’s 2nd record breaking run of defeats/games without a win when it seemed he was unsackable due to his relationship with the owner. Had a season ticket for 6 years in a row. Think I’ve been about 4 times since. It’s gone from being a huge part of my life to just something I keep an eye on from a distance. Once the Lansdown family and Mr Tinnion are gone, I’ll hopefully become interested again.

Went to king st brewhouse after watching rugby in town yesterday to check out ‘eat the bird’ pop up thee

they have a few places wales and south west but first time I have really heard of it .

had a Korean chicken burger which has just won some national award , was absolutely banging! Cannot recommend it highly enough.

shared a loaded buffalo and blue chicken fries too which was completely unecessary mindful of how big the burgers were anyway , but was also top draw

Is it only a pop up? I’d heard they were coming to Bristol but didn’t realise it was just a pop up. They have a branch below the apartments at the County Ground in Taunton. Eaten there a few times before a t20 game or after a day watching some county championship cricket. It is fantastic. They were on a tv show a while back that was looking for the best takeaway food restaurant in the country and they won the fried chicken category.

    Very enjoyable

went on a table of 4.

ordered a load of different snacks/starters which we shared. All were nice

I had a slow cook ox dish for main with Pedro Jimenez Source which was lovely.

we over ordered a bit on sides. The portions on the mains were actually pretty generous , so we had a whole potato side that went spare.

we were so stuffed we didn’t all get a desert but I shared a lemon posset type dish with shortbread with one of the other diners and it was amazing.

service good , nice place . Would recommend.

did rack up quite a bill with a few bottles of wine on top etc , but a nice evening all round

Sounds amazing. Will get in there at some point. Thanks for the review

Laughable ain’t it. The media will be blowing this up for the next week. Jim White will be exploding in his Scottish pants ready to label every football fan a scumbag  tomorrow and that the English games in the mud……..****.

English football fans certainly haven’t done themselves many favours this weekend. The Port Vale fan chasing the ref, the Maidstone fan trying to kill someone and now this.
