Both of these also took over terrible teams in dire situations, while they both proved incapable of improving matters (although I do think O’Driscoll did good work behind the scenes but that’s a different conversation), nobody could argue they inherited a decent team and made them significantly worse.

Manning took an over perfectly decent mid table team with a lot going for it, not world beaters, but organised, spirited and athletic. The speed in which he has turned that team into one that plays the worst football since Tony Pulis and takes 12 points from 14 games is staggering really. He also seems to have deprogrammed the players into never being able to do anything at pace, never showing any confidence, ambition or imagination and frankly looking like the broken shells of professional footballers. You can almost see them all constantly second guessing themselves.

People on here like to take SOD apart, but I think he really did some strong work, not least by recruiting players like Pack and Flint whom we later sold for massive profits, with them having been mainstays of the side. Sure, he wasn't all sunshine and flowers, but I think given the state of the club he inherited, he did more good than harm.

My first thought was if it’s meant to represent the St George cross it should be red.

But it looks like you two are trying to work an angle to paint the poster as homophobic, so I’ll leave you to it.

What baffles me is, even if it turns out that Hargreaves was the real brains behind Hargreaves Lansdown, SL can’t be daft.  He must see his investment turning to shit under his idiot son, so why is he sitting back and letting it happen?

Because it's ultimately likely to be his son's money in the end, anyway.

Trouble is that we know they won't do that. The short term nature of football means we would get some clubs, owned by some people, willing to omit a relegation clause from a contract if it meant getting a player to sign for them rather than a rival.

We know this because it happens. Until recently Everton didn't have relegation clauses int heir contracts. Our own club gave out contracts in the 70s that it ultimately couldn't back. Just two examples of what would happen.

So you'd get clubs, community institutions, going bust, or going through desperate insolvency procedures. Unless and until there's enough oversight of owners to ensure pragmatic and sensible commercial decisions are made (*cough* regulator with teeth *cough*) you do have to have some sort of safety net in place to protect the clubs and their fans from stupid owners.

    Tough. Let 'em burn.

It's now or never, I want to see him as City manager, just to live that experience, you know we all secretly want it!

I can see Warnock being the man to take City to the play off places, or at least give us a season never to forget!

Let's make fan power force it to happen.

Or have I just lost the plot and maybe suffering from temporary insanity?  I'd take anyone instead of bland vanilla man.

I'd rather have Tinnion back in charge.

This sounds like a potential myth thoigh as I checked some Accounts prior to this and it seems otherwise.

Not criticising you or the OP but this poor reporting doesn't account for an undoubted T.V. money advantage to freshly Relegated sides prior to this.

Yes, they got the TV money, but only whilst in the PL. Anyway, **** 'em.

That's because Man C are "A Big Club". Remember when Alan Sugar was in charge at Spurs? They were deducted 24 points for some reason. Alan S appealed against this and had the deduction reduced to twelve points. He still wasn't happy, so appealed again and ended up with zero points deduction.

It's because Man City are facing about 500,000 charges, not just a few.

Personally, I'll shed no tears for the Florists, Everton, any of them. Reap what you sow.

People often sat SL is uncomfortable with being challenged. That may be so but I'm not sure I entirely agree.

In my opinion it was actually the people like Tinnion etc etc that felt threatened by Nige. Hence moves were made to get Nige out of the club.

It's the people between the owner and the manager that you need to look at in my opinion. They know they are incompetent so will do all they can to protect their position and their livelihood.

I very much doubt SL is uncomfortable with being challenged; the mark of a good leader is that you appoint good people and listen to their advice. You don't have to like it. @Davefevs posting of what Radcliffe says sums it up - get good people in place. We had that with Gould, for example. But he was always going to leave for the ECB job.

It's the last 6 which is worrying me:

And I fear we could be crucified on Good Friday.

At least there might be a chance of a Resurrection Easter Monday.

It's a nailed on certainty, stone cold, cross my heart.

Not sure you can suggest that the lansdowns heart is not in the right place, Steve Lansdown has provided so much for this club we should be massively grateful.

It's his judgement that's the issue, the fact that his heart seems to have taken over from the head in the decision making process

The value of the work Richard Gould did is becoming increasingly evident day by day! Dam his love of cricket!

And to think there were plenty on here who said he was a terrible appointment, because he didn't know about football.

There’s no blue in our flag . White home red away , simple .

I'd pop down to Specsavers, the away one is purple, not blue.

But I too hate the blue in the home kit, but it's "tradishunal"

  13. That's quite tidy, a bit retro for the 'home' kit, but the purple one is truly lovely.

And both are ten trillion times nicer than the offensive mess that preceded them.
