    Sykes

The starting line up to me looked like a back 4. Why ? Because Sykes has never really looked comfortable at RWB , Knight has played all his best football in CMF and it seemed obvious. If we were going to play a 3 , in a game that meant nothing why not give Knight - Label a run ? The "Pathway" remember , though that doesn't seem to exist any more. JKL plays and it's a straight swap for Vyner, King would be the same, everyone can stay in the same positions as Wednesday when it all worked so well. But no . To avoid playing a kid ... We move Sykes, Knight , McCrorie, Tanner when one Player in keeps the same shape and system . Everyone around me said it, but it took until Williams came off to drop Knight deeper. Another thing , why Williams off ? He was much better than James and he didn't look tired. Sykes looks much better further forward , he is not a WB and doesn't look comfortable there.
  2. 1) The players brought in will be from the same group as any other manager here , the final decision will be Mannings, the type of player, but they would have been scouted for some time by the Club. 2) Blackburn was good , very good. The press, the attitude , the intent , passing and movement was all good . Blackburn were shite and their Captain had a mare and a hand in3 goals, but that doesn't take away from the fact we played well. Possibly we even caused them to make problems by playing well . Yep , and ... Today = shite performance Blackburn = Good Sunderland = Shite Plymouth = OK Leicester = Ok Results aren't everything Vyner is rubbish , my mate told me
  3. I thought at first she was picky/petty , but over the game she was good and played the advantage well. 2nd time in a week I've seen advantage played really well, though if I was being very picky , she didn't make it clear all the time she was doing it. The chap Wednesday seemed to make it clear he was playing advantage , which stopped the cat calls from most fans. Few things I didn't agree with, but that's normal. If she wasn't a woman we'd be saying they were one of the better Refs this season , I like to think we will take the performance on it's own. It was a good Refereeing performance . But it was a dive when she went down. It was our ball from the drop ball and her Lino on the Lansdown side was a clown.
  4. Turned on and bang , makes it interesting
  5. That's the most "uncondensed"** , condensed version ever ** it's a real word , honest.
  6. Agree, to get some consistency in results it surely helps having consistency in intent and plan. Those poor games came from using some sort of hybrid low block stand off ( hoping the other team nod off ?) . I know it depends on who we play, but trying to win the ball high, starting the press as a team , meant we played quicker and everyone was "at it" . When we stand off we slow down and get scrappy . I won't quote your 2nd post Dave , but will add pace and tempo . We seem so much crisper in passing when playing a press, it seems to get everyone in the right mindset instead of sitting and waiting for things to happen. I nearly ignored the thread but thought decided to ignore the bait .
  7. Talk about build it and they will come. When the Fishponds Lounge "Porto" was in the smaller site by the park , we could get in a lit more often than now, usually rammed. The food and service is usually good. I would say the bigger building isn't so great for acoustics , you can struggle with conversations at times . The big one in Keynsham hasn't got the same homely feel as the smaller ones do and loses something from the experience. Be interesting to see what happens with the Harbourside site.
  8. Ignoring the I think it could be a test. They are hardly likely to be playing open expansive football when they need points. I imagine they will be compact and pragmatic , just the sort of set up that gave us so much trouble a few games ago. If we don't get an early goal , it could be a long day and a tough game. The difference from those borefests is a teak in system . I like Sykes and Twine as a 2 behind Conway ( Wells) , Sykes adds some intensity and energy and Twine looked as sharp as he's been here. I thought rotation and movement was good the other night , passing and control really good , a polar opposite to Saturday . 1 win in their last 8 with 3 draws , they have conceded 14 but that looks a little odd ,as 11 of those goals have come in 3 games. The others have been one goal either way. We should have enough to nick a win, but I'd be very surprised to see us go goal mad again. Dickie was listed as too early for the other night , I guess that means he could be back. Same with TGH . I think it would be a surprise to see changes , unless someone breaks down . No need to rush players back with nothing on these games , but if he's fit it would be interesting to see Dickie in a 3 and how it effects Vyner if he moves right , not always done well with those positional changes.
  9. gypsies , tramps and thieves - Cher
  10. I remember doing that , just the once . I think they tried it as a one off 1971 , maybe looking at redoing it.
  11. I am willing to overlook it seems to hit his head, his back arm is raised and the ball was travelling . Yes he should only give it if he's sure, but it's Eltringham. What I like is the defender doesn't move and good old Geoff walks past him to give it. Should be struck off, at least not selected for several weeks . Bet he does us within a month .
  12. That is the worst decision I have ever seen . You wonder what the Lino was doing, he must have seen where the bloke was . But even so , it was so bad I expect him to be doing Parks football for the foreseeable .
  13. I thought it was a decent game, with luck they may upload the full 90 at some stage. We started well and all through the game our press was good.,Knight in that deeper role makes a difference . I thought Twine had his best game by some way and Sykes in the team improves us and our press / closing. McCrorie looked back to something like his best , Tanner was very good again and Vyner too. Tommy lead the line well and the service meant he was much more involved and he started the press well. Williams and Roberts were outstanding , but Blackburn were poor and allowed us so much room that Roberts could move into "overlapping centre back" mode with very little threat of getting caught out. Mehmeti must have been begging Manning to get on against a struggling defence . Nice to see Wells get goals and a good assist by Cornick. Pleased that JKL got on , but it also it says something that even in a game we are cruising in Mebude isn't given a run. All round good day , we do need to show consistency and back it up on Saturday . It won't be as easy , I see Huddersfield being much more compact and similar to those sides we struggled against not that long ago.
  14. Purely on performance , I thought he was very good. Played advantage well , but not just that he made it clear what was happening . Let the game flow , I thought he missed a few things but overall very good.
  15. Our trip to Preston , the ground I've been to most with City , 2015 promotion run in. I do like this photo. I seem to remember PNE's next game was against Swindon , they won 3-0 and sang the Flint said no song .
  16. I believe the owners are the same as the S*n , so I am hopeful that the S*n is losing so much money they have to cut back in other areas to prop it up. The Times was the last paper I used to read , quite a time ago though. The sport was always decent and photography throughout the paper excellent.
  17. I know it was away, but Blackburn and good memories for me mean this one. 31 passes and a lovely finish by Tammy.
  18. One thing that I don't think has been mentioned about them, but is regularly brought up for our games .... real figures . There will always be people that don't turn up , but take that off of a low starting point and ...
  19. Well that would be my thinking , if it was announced as mutual consent or that he stepped away. But seeing as he said he was fired and the Club gave much more than a minimal "cheers then", it does seem odd.
  20. Just thinking that myself .
  21. A lot changed in 37 years , 1930 below. Just found this view of the old stand , October 1964
  22. Walton & Hersham sack Manager ... Club say; Ex Manager says ; The table says ; His brief was apparently to try and get to the SOUTHERN PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH in 5 years , he did it in 3 and they sit 5 points from the Playoffs . Their results this year, while not outstanding are something like 6-5-6 ( 23 points from 17 games ) , not to shabby for a team after 3 consecutive promotions . I read he has seen a 700% increase in attendances in his time at the club. It's a funny old game . This was an interesting post, the Club run by a consortium of 24 year olds ? Thinking back to me at 24, they probably sacked him for waking them early and interrupting their hangovers .
