16 Arrested In Dawn Raids

Well done Plod. Next time try to stop it happening in the first place and may be then you can justify your considerable salaries/pensions. Shocking bad pre-match 'intelligence' . One can only hope that the good superintendent and her obscenely paid commissioner were arrested in dawn raids as well for total incompetence.

Me? Far rather all their considerable post match efforts were concentrated on catching real criminals who ruin life's rather than rounding up a bunch of over-excited kids. But that is to difficult for them - so, as ever, go for the easy touch in a blaze of publicity.

Yes, ridiculous and a waste of money. They did nothing inside the ground, but raked in the costs charged to both clubs - then do things the easy way several weeks down the line.

Completely agree. They were paid to control order, not watch then nick 2 months later.

Yellow shirt or whoever he is should have been removed from the ground after the first goal for his (drunken) behaviour. Did his actions though warrant arrest? not in my opinion he was just being a knob, a lot of us have been a dick when pissed. Should have just taken a hard line and frog marched him out, many others around him would have then thought twice.

This wasn't an exercise in rounding up excited children, these were raids on people that have (allegedly) committed violent crimes.

People are not being arrested for running on a football pitch!! Hence why the police are only seeking 40 odd people and not 500-1000 pitch invaders!!

I agree with the publicity factor, unnecessary and scare mongering.

If they are innocent they have nothing to worry about. Guessing that they have clear evidence though.

What, having the worry of having your face plastered across the Evening post for all your family and workplace to see and getting an early morning call by the "riot squad" is nothing to worry about, would you like it? Interesting that the football club have not got involved this time with the "culprits" photo's like they did at Cardiff, maybe they can see the injustice in it, unlike a few on here.

so you can do whatever you want on the night?

That appeared to be the case in the ground - Yellow shirt running onto the pitch several times, guy who approached the Rovers' goalie, people chucking seats and coins, Rovers fans who were late arriving (and were escorted to the ground by the Police) allowed to make a charge towards the Williams stand as soon as they got into the ground.

Would be interested to know if anybody saw the police actually being pro-active within the ground, to prevent trouble escalating?

I note that the clubs are now saying that those "convicted" will be banned.

Maybe if they behaved themselves they wouldn't have the worry. just a thought.

That's kind of the point of a forum. Let's try and keep political allegiances out of football chat, it adds nothing to the debate apart from bickering.

This is about police, the police are instructed in accordance to the government so if I was really bored and nit picking, I could say it actually is about politics? But im not and as it is, I agree. Taxi...

Ultimately i saw nothing on the night that has warranted over 50 arrests, yet another massive over-reaction like last years Cardiff game

Anyone who threw coins or seats deserve to be arrested i would of thought.

still waiting for the police to get back to me on my burglary the other week,

Why dont you do the honourable thing and turn yourself in. This club does not need burglars among its ranks.

And please give back what you have taken. And dont do it again.

cant help but feel the OB have given this as much media as possible so as to make them not look quite so bad for the shamefull job they did on the day, remember them announcing the zero tolerence that would be in place on the day !! yet they let people do what they want and failed to control crowds all day long.

yes people have to brought to justice for wrong doings but what about a report into the way the game was policed ? If the police had done therre job properly on the day half of the problems wouldnt have occured!, the 'yellow shirt' bloke was the ultimate example, twice on the pitch for both goals and was allowed to remain in the stadium to appear on the pitch again at the end!

Completely agree with this the police were pathetic that night. I know that after the game when you lot were being let out despite putting a wall of police between the two sets of fans they were still letting city fans through. Now however wrong it is you know there are going to be people at the game looking for a fight.

Still it looks good for there arrest figures which is all they care about.

Police surely would only have been raiding those who caused serious problems not those running on the pitch.

Again seems to be an air of people condoning the thugs on here just because violence should be 'expected at a derby game'.

It's not condoning it, the people who go to games to cause trouble are idiots the lot of them and if guilty will get their cummupence however I do feel the police could of done more to prevent this from happening which as their job is to ensure public safety should of been their main concern. Prevention is always better than reacting to the problem

This seems prevalent now with "modern policing".

Any violent outbreak these days (riots etc..) is met with filming of the perpetrators, then kettling them. No attempt at arrest on the spot is made, but the culprits are picked up some weeks later.

While it is understandable that the police want to avoid injury to themselves if possible, it does not come across well to see them standing by as people's property is destroyed in front of them.

Got a txt from a mate who's Brother got done for the same thing this morning all he did was run from the Dolman to the Williams exit by the Ateyo.

tho i disagree with that, running on the pitch has been an arristable offence for over 20 years now and shouldn't happen,

Now I know the most clubs turn a blind eye to it at the end of the season and rightly so, but there was no need to do it in the first round of the tinpot cup

All he has done is get caught up in the moment and excitement of beating your local rivals, sorry but totally over the top.

On your last point, it was pretty clear to me that with yellow jumper spending all that time on the pitch, the Police tactic for the night was to video and arrest later.

That's why, anyone with any savvy kept out of trouble.

Seems the norm for the Police nowadays.. Let the crime happen and then just hope they can mop up using CCTV.. The fact people get injured is of no consequent to them.

As for dawn raids, surely a letter asking them to attend their local station to help with inquiries, with the threat of arrest warrant being issued if they do not attend within seven days would have been a lot cheaper... In fact the cost of a generic letter and stamp.

oh I'm not against it and the hundreds that ran on are only guilty of getting over excited and those who are guilty of this and been banned have my sympathy they really do,

But the club has to be seen to be doing something about it as it was on national/international TV (being on Sky) and a lot ran right towards the away end to have a go at the away fans, they simply can't sweep that under the carpet, they have to lay the letter of the law and that law is, if a spectator enters the field of play he/she is subject to arrest and a automatic banning order,

However wrong it may be the club/police are well with in their rights of rounding up everyone who ent on the pitch and arresting/banning them,

Fairly obvious people will say they were only on the pitch celebrating.
