Aizoon
I think this is excellent work by the police, we would be complaining far more if they weren't doing their job Let's keep the YOBS out of Ashton Gate. Pity they weren't doing their job early enough INSIDE the ground. Proper policing would have involved just a couple of idiots being arrested, but that wouldn't have justified the Post headlines and the police overtime. RedRock
Well, as I have pitch-invasion history, when the Old Bill come knocking I'm going to claim to be a Sag just masquerading as a City fan and be rewarded with a life ban from the Mammary Gland. I'm amazed that the Family Club haven't sussed yet that the 25 odd arrested 'Sags' are really City fans in disguise.
basshead
A lot of people are still not getting it. The club statement was very clear. They want to create a family atmosphere at the club, and anyone who acts or behaves aggressively is simply not welcome at the club. The warnings have been clear, not least after the Cardiff game. The club have a zero tolerance policy on this matter. What amazes me is that so many people think that the club (or the police) won't follow through with their threats. What else does the club need to do? As a matter of interest were you in the escort back to the station ?

Nibor
The violent scum are now innocent? Make your mind up. The people arrested are innocent until proven guilty. The violent scum will be proven guilty. The chances are that only those caught on CCTV being violent have been arrested and will therefore likely be convicted. Seriously is this hard to understand or something? You may be better off going back to colouring in, just remember not to eat the crayons.
hippy273
At the end of the day, the whole operation should have been better organised. Am I right in saying both sets of fans were allowed to leave at the same time? Of course there was always going to be scuffles, but better planning to keep the two apart after the game should have been reviewed.
Nogbad the Bad
Depends what the 'offences' are to my mind. I would have thought, and indeed hope, that City would not make such a statement without knowing full well what the offences are. In short, they must be bad enough for them to come out with such a no-tolerance remark. Conversely, perhaps Rovers already know that some of the offences attributed to their fans are rather luke warm, in part, and by comparison. No, despite the publicity given to the mostly celebratory pitch invasion, the two worst reported incidents of actual violence on the night were the Rovers fans charging at the Williams and battling with police, and Rovers fans forcing their way through the police cordon outside to fight with City fans. On both occasions Rovers fans were seen as the aggressors, and it seems likely a high percentage of those Rovers fans arrested were due to involvement in these serious incidents. Strictly Obi
In most sports rival fans can mingle before And after the match/event peacefully. The problem with football, is the higher proportion of morons it unfortunately attracts! I think the police walk a fine line between being either to heavy handed or not proactive enough in stamping out potential trouble. But I am happy that these idiots have been identified and shamed. I would like to think they will never be let in to a football match ever again, if they are found guilty of violent conduct etc. It is unfortunate that a misguided minority on here, seem to have some sympathy for these idiots. But like I say, football attracts all types!

WTFiGO!?!
If plod had pulled out the water canons from minute 1 an abliterated the problem, it would not have been appreciated even as a bystander. It would have probably even esculated things. In Brazil, plod would not have ****** about and people know that, but this England. It was made clear that cctv is in operation and if you're guilty you will be prosecuted. Even if that's taken a couple months, and woken people up at 6am, I see it as an effective policy. For the safety of 'carried away kids', who ran onto some grass, it worked too.
Mr Popodopolous
Depends why they were nicked doesn't it. For mere pitch invasion, pffft ott or what. Actual physical violence, incitement or threatening behaviour different but a pitch invasion is not all that shocking provided it isn't vioolent- which many on the pitch seemed not to be. Mr Popodopolous
I would have thought that some arrests would relate to fighting in Winterstoke Road Car Park and the industrial estate after the game and the numerous scraps in and around Bristol. Also for any violent behaviour, seat or coin throwing inside the ground. More than likely, lot of bother away from the game that day apparently. Guest
Will be interesting to see the how the punishment for whatever charges are brought will relate to the 6 Charlton fans who have just got 6-18months prison sentences for racial chanting on a train. Son of Fred
Radio 5 just reporting that 16 people have been arrested in dawn raids, this is in connection with the violence at the local derby. I didn't witness any of the alleged violence, but blimey, that does seem a bit OTT for running on the pitch, unless there was some more serious incidents. i doubt this is about running on a pitch..other incidents outside the ground and elsewhere are what its about i guess. Stockwood gate
Well I just want to say I have absolutely no issue with those that chose to run onto the pitch to celebrate at full time. And if those people are (as sone have revealed) been arrested for this then they should feel aggrieved.
Oldland Red 08
Why the National reporting on this ??? Absurd when probably 16 get nicked every weekend in Bristol City Centre When the police actually carry out some proper policing at a football match, perhaps they will gain some respect
old parkender
errr...whats it got to do with a totally different matter? Admin phantom Posted October 31, 2013 Admin Report Share Posted October 31, 2013 FWIW, you take your chances, the signs are and have been clear enough re pitch invasions/whatever in the past. If you get your collar felt, you get your collar felt. Them's the risk you take breaking the law as it stands. I actually tend to feel that those warnings are aimed more at an individual encroaching the playing area rather than a mass number. The strangest part of the evening was the guy who kept running on and off the pitch but no policeman OR steward tried to apprehend him at any time As has been said a thousand times before those who just ran on the pitch will be ok, it is the one's who committed another offence whilst on there. I suspect that 99% of these arrests we have heard about will be for the clashes before and after the game (oh yeah good call letting the away fans out at the same time)

Nogbad the Bad
2nd instance of pitch invasion of a local derby this year, Preston vs Blackpool was similar. The PNE/Blackpool game was very similar in many ways. Local derby, unusually big and volatile crowd with significant away support, large number of PNE fans on the pitch at the end gathering directly in front of the away end, violent incidents reported before and after the match outside the ground. Live on TV as well. You obviously have knowledge of the area Ralph - any dawn raids reported up there, and how does the arrests total for that match compare with our derby?
