TV Tom
I can't believe the stick they get on this forum, ploughed millions into the club which he will never get back, made what seemed to be sound managerial appointments at the time (with the exception of Millen), took us to the brink of the Premier league, would of built us a spanking new stadium by now if it wasn't for the ineptitude of the City Council & lies from AV residents and what's more they are Bristolians & BCFC supporters, Steve Lansdown does not pick the football team he just pays their transfer fees & wages, personally i still have faith in them & feel that we are in safe hands, be careful what you wish for if you want SL out, we could end up with a Risdale, Bates, Tan or Mandorij, or even a milkman with his hands in the till! Get behind them & don't listen to the doom-merchants on here with personal vendettas against the club.

Admin phantom Posted December 20, 2013 Admin Report Share Posted December 20, 2013 You clearly have not read the posts in depth, I've not seen anyone say they want SL out, the problems are the team that he has looking after the top end of our club. I do wonder though why people think that there will be no club without SL, there are 91 other clubs without his money surviving in the leagues! There lies the problem. Anyway, at least we're getting a bit of an FA Cup run this season and have reached the 3rd round - the very round we'd be starting in had we remained a Championship club. No-one knows where we would be if someone else was at the helm, personally i put the blame completely at the feet of the previous managers who have gone to SL for transfer funds & signing on fees and we've ended up with players on vast wages like Pearson, Kilkenny etc & paying well over the odds for average players like Baldock and Flint, perhaps SL should of kept his hands in his pockets?, i find that this forum does not represent the majority of BCFC fans in it's criticism of the Lansdown's as i work, live & socialise in South Bristol where i have come across very little criticism of SL but more frustration with the predicament & unbelievable decline in the standard of football. I must admit, I was rather shocked when the club replaced Lee Johnson with Neil Kilkenny - like for like players in central midfield, with Kilkenny worse than Johnson. I was also disappointed when Adriano Basso and Bradley Orr left - they still haven't been replaced with equivalent standard players and the ageing David James was not a better goalie than Basso in my opinion. Now we've got a team of losers that look likely to send us down with no more than a whimper - of course, all this is nothing to do with the owner's decisions. By all accounts he's going to right the debt off. A fact is we're sat at the foot of league 1. We have been through managers like they work for free. We have shrinking attendences and supporter faith is low. Can you not expect comment on these slight setbacks? It's the fans fault they're giving too much attention to the five pillars? City 1-2 Rotherham Just as SOD looks like he might be turning the tide - unbeaten In 6 (?) We replace him. With someone that's rumoured to have a mate on the board. A 31 year old, my age! has a key role In the higher echoles.. Do you think there may be course for complaint or are we being a bit harsh?
Dunc
Couldn't agree more with the OP. If someone would show me a better alternative than a lifelong BCFC fan who has invested millions into the club then I'm all ears! Regardless of the JL/KD bashing SL still runs this club. The team haven't performed over the last few seasons and he takes his share of blame. We're not the only club in this situation, form comes and goes. I'd take the SL stability and loyalty to the development of this club all day long over a change. One day we'll look back and wish we had an owner like SL again... Aizoon
What baffles me is that the board replaced SOD with someone with a totally different football philosophy. Not necessarily worse, but utterly incompatible with what the players had been learning for the last six months. If that was because he was an acquaintance of one of the directors, it's a disgrace. Admin phantom Posted December 20, 2013 Admin Report Share Posted December 20, 2013 Just a few who don't speak for the fan base at large - usual stuff. Not sure that either side could really back that arguement up Does the fact that there are more and more people with this view not highlight that many others may? Could't really see SOD turning the tide myself (2 wins in 30 games) appalling football and as far as i'm concerned we were going nowhere fast, his record at BCFC speaks for himself, statistically the worst City manager of all time, hopefully Cotterill will install a bit of fight and pride in the team which has been sadly lacking since the Johnson years and i'm still waiting for someone to come up with an alternative to SL, maybe Brian Steele from Bristol carpets? Aizoon
Not sure that either side could really back that arguement up Does the fact that there are more and more people with this view not highlight that many others may? There are some obvious biases in the group - clearly towards those with computers and smugphones, but less obviously towards those with time on their hands (maybe the young and the old). It's hard to see, though, how those would transfer into biases about the style of football or the running of BCFC. Certainly, younger and older people might have different agendas, but surely they would cancel each other out?
'Orns
Yes, SL has done a lot for the club, but we're no better off than when he came in, in fact we're in a much worse position God knows how many millions in debt we are now, but, as I keep saying - it happened on his watch. He wrote the cheques, there have been mistakes made, there are at every club. But it's the same mistakes, time and time again So thanks to SL for the brush with the PL, but I'm not saying thanks for the current brush with Division 4 And no, I don't have the money to buy him out before someone brings that up. Do I want a foreign owner, no I don't. Do I want to start enjoying being a City fan again, yes please Something is broken at our club, I've never run a football club, so I don't know what it is, but if someone with experience of doing so came along with the money to buy SL out and start again then right now I'd take it
054123
It's not a love/hate situation. I have always supported steve lansdown, i have just come to question his judgement and direction. as others have posted, he has tried to do someting with the club, but over the last 2 years i feel he has just lost the drive. it is not a criticism. If you had a mate you was pissing his money, wouldn't you want to have a quiet word with him? The problem we have as fans is that, the current malaise he finds himself in directly affects us. I have always supported him and am grateful that he decided to spend a load of money on trying to get us somewhere, but if his heart isn't in it anymore then get someone in who can be a figure head and drive us forward. I can only assume that we are about to go on another massive merry go round of players coming in and going out.....again. Has anyone got a rough estimate of how many different players have been at this club in the last 10 years?? The total must be massive.

Appoint somebody onto the board who properly understands football. How do assess that the independent fan represents what other fans want? You can't unfortunately, you need to look at the demograph on OTIB to realise we all have different views. I also love the irony of the board who supposedly doesn't understand football, has to then appoint someone who does understand football !!
