First of all: congrats with the win over Portvale. Top of the league: Nice!!!!!!

Here a short report of our match of last Saturday:

An away match against Feyenoord. Big club, big name and (in my opinion) with the nicest stadium of The Netherlands. 350 supporters in the away box and almost 50,000 people in the stadium.... Impressing and also for our players.... With 47 away games not won in the Eredivisie in a row, expectations were not very high and 1 point would feel like a victory...

After a weekend with no matches and quite a few new players rented/hired in the last week, we wondered how everything would go. Our new forward Samuel Armenteros (rented) playing on number 9 should replace Ruud Boymans who was our 9 last year, who scored 28 goals. Armenteros had not played since march 2014..... And you could notice that during the game. He was far from fit..... BUT although he ran not that many, he was very efficient!!! After a chance for Feyenoord in the first minute, we had a counter in the 8th minute and our back went forward. Armenteros shoot the ball over 35 metres towards our back who scored the 0-1 beautiful... The first half we were really better and this resulted in the 0-2 scored by..... yes our new number 9!!!! After a nice move of Terell Ondaan (remember that name for the future). Half time 0-2...

0-2 is still not safe, especially not when playing against Feyenoord in such a big stadium. The second half Feyenoord was making the game and Willem II could only defend the 0-2. The crowd of Feyenoord showed that they were present too and around the 70th minute Feyenoord scored the 1-2. And then the only thing you can do as Willem II is defend and prey.... ;-) The atmosphere in the away box was very intense. Could we get of the streak of not winning away games? With a few chances for Feyenoord (one on the post) and 1 for Willem II we did manage it and we got our win!!!! People were crying in the away box and partying big time!!!! So nice to be present during this game after 47 games  winning and then even in this stadium against this big club.....

BUT winning away against Feyenoord was very nice. Winning this Friday against our local rival NAC is a necessity!!!! We must win two matches in a season, home and away against NAC..... Everybody is nervous already and the pre party will be great for sure. Lets hope the after party will be even bigger....

Vid from the away box with the last few minutes (experience the nerves of the last few minutes with a small lead in a match, and take with that the fact that you have not won an away game for almost 3 years in the Eredivisie): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XIvGlruRek

I still smile when I see the last vid, even after viewing it over 20 times...

Matchreport:

Friday was the BIG day, the most important day of the year for Willem II and its supporters, the match against our neighbours NAC. We had to miss this match last season since we relegated, but promoted back to the Eredivise and now playing against our enemy...

NAC seeded nr. 9 in the Eredivisie had gained quite a lot points, but is at this time a real counter club. The night before the match about 60 supporters of NAC attacked the pub where our supporters normally are on matchdays (goodfellas). Nobody was there, but some things were damaged and they took a shirt of a supporter of Willem II who died a couple years ago. After some convincing words, they finally returned the shirt, but the atmosphere was created...

Friday matchday..... nice pre party in town, goodfellas and around the stadium. Unfortunately no beers allowed on the terraces during the match this time... Stadium was packed and there were also some guys from BCFC present (nice to see you in Tilburg dear friends). Away box sold out and nicely situated between our most fanatic fans. The Tilburg Tifosi made a very nice banner for the match (based on a picture many years ago) to celebrate the 35th year of the Kingside. Quite a lot of flares when the players entered the pitch (no still not allowed in The Netherlands), no pyro, no party....

After the win against Feyenoord gave us good faith, but NAC had won their last game too. The first 25 minutes Willem II played very convincing, giving NAC no oppotunities. In the 12th minute this resulted in the 1-0 for Willem II. Big party... Were we able to win after our last win in 2009 against NAC? Many chances followed for Willem II but unfortunately we were not able to score another goal. The last 20 minutes of the first half NAC became better and created some opportunities. After a foul on our player NAC gained the ball on midfield in the 40th minute and from 20 metres scored a goal.... 1-1 and half time..... Very disappointing, because we should lead the game with at least 3-0.... During half time the referee even admitted that NAC made a foul and the goal of NAC should not have been granted...

Second half both teams were equal to each other, with NAC looking satisfied with 1 point and Willem II wanting to go for the win. Ideal for NAC because that is the way they like to play... Time going by without a score. Some injuries on our side let to some replacements. then about 10 minutes before the end of the match one of our players was pushed in the 16 metres..... Referee decided once again with all his wisdom that there was nothing wrong and thus no penalty..... Wrong once again.. Would we get 1 point in this match, just as two years ago? NO!!! In injury time Willem II scored the 2-1 with a new player who is a supporter of NAC. There was a lot of discussion before the match if he would be truthfull towards Willem II, but he definitely proved he was!!!!! The stadium exploded. All people stood up and jumped around while singing: who does not jump is a supporter of NAC....

Then the whistle... end of the match.   Well deserved win over our enemy NAC and they will remember this for a very, very long time (as we will for sure)!!!!! Afterparty was even better!

Next week sunday an away game against FC Groningen (the farest away match this season) with already almost 300 people going there. In between a match against an amateur club on Tuesday for the Amstel Cup.

Here a vid of the players coming onto the pitch at the beginning of the match. When the banner goes down you can watch the nice warm welcome we give the keeper of NAC (who put some more oil on the fire on the feelings towards each other in the week towards the match): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg5BNxdIZak in the left corner the away box is situated...

And a vid just after the 2-1 was scored until the final whistle of the match (just party and a bit of pyro, but so beautiful): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MJmPkiZb90

To summarize it: a night I will remember the rest of my life. The guys from BCFC who were there enjoyed themselves quite good. For the rest of you: make sure you are there the next time.... ;-) Three days later and still smiling....

Youre a great cup side n all then......staying in the Eredivisie is mooi lekker, more important..

And I used just about the only Dutch/Afrikaans words I can still remember...

@ bucksred: come to a game of Willem II and you can learn some more Dutch words...

Last Friday a new (big) banner was showed for the first time to celebrate the 35 years anniversary of the Kingside. Here you can view a vid of how it was made and the presentation when the players entered the pitch. Please look carefully to the picture on 1.18. That picture was the base for the banner. Know your history....

A bit late, but a short report of the away match against FC Groningen.

Willem II seeded nr. 8 played against nr. 10 FC Groningen. But to be honest, FC Groningen normally is placed higher in the Eredivisie. A strong opponent with quite a big stadium. Groningen is the farest away match of this season, but nevertheless Willem II went with over 400 supporters to Groningen (Far more than PSV took to Heerenveen the same weekend). A nice three hour drive through the nice surroundings of Holland by car and 4 busses which take a bit longer. So long that they arrived 5 minutes after the start of the match...

The match itself: first half both teams played really defensive, with only a few chances. After about half an hour FC Groningen got a free kick near the 16 metres zone. The ball was kicked against a defender and hit his arm which resulted in an easy given penalty for FC Groningen. The penalty was scored by a former player of Willem II: FC Groningen in a 1-0 lead. The same half a player of FC Groningen hit the ball with his hand too within the 16, but no penalty for Willem II: upset away box. A few minutes later a player of Willem II was grounded in the 16, again no penalty: away box went crazy... Half time result 1-0, when we should have at least 1 penalty....

Second half Willem II was the better team, but did not create many chances. In the 74th minute Willem II created the best chance, but the ball went along the wrong side of the pole (just a few inches). Endresult 1-0 loss, where 1-1 would be well deserved....

Saturday a home match against FC Heerenveen, who have beaten PSV last weekend. So a difficult match...1 point would be great!

Report of the match against SC Heerenveen:

Saturday 19.45 kick off for the home game against Heerenveen. Whole day ill in bed, but had to go to the match. Heerenveen seeded nr. 4 in the Eredivisie and with a win they could be nr. 1 in the Eredivisie (other teams in the top played on Sunday), so a very difficult match and one point would be great. Especially since they had beaten PSV last week....

No beer for me this time and no singing due to a lack of a voice... About 10.000 people in the stadium and 200 people in the away box. Atmosphere was quite nice in the beginning of the match. Singing the first song for about 10 minutes was quite impressing. The match itself: the first half Heerenveen was slightly better then Willem II. This was the first time this season that a team was better than Willem II. Our keeper made some fantastic saves but after about 35 minutes it was Heerenveen that scored a goal. 0-1 At half time, and they deserved to be in front.

How different the second half was.... Heerenveen only defended their lead and had some nice counters. Our keeper, who had some awefull mistakes in the first match of the season, saved Willem II this time to keep the gap 1 goal. The last 30 minutes Willem II was putting lots of pressure on Heerenveen, but they managed to defend the 0-1. The last 15 minutes the stadium really pushed the team forward and with a Lucky free kick, changed in direction by a Willem II player it was 1-1. Big party of course because this was not something we expected. The supporters made clear they only want one thing: a win against Heerenveen, since we were the better team in the second half. And with only a few minutes to go it was Willem II who scored once again.... 2-1. In the following minutes Heerenveen got one small chance and Willem II should have scored the 3-1, but what the heck.... 2-1 victory against a really good opponent.

Few things that I notice:

- Willem II has quite some very good players on the bench. The substitutes brought around the 60th minute improved the team and resulted in the win.

- Due to the quality of the players on the pitch and on the bench we are able to turn a game around (the last time we won a match after being behind was in 2011).

- The team is really fit: they are working very, very hard on the pitch and are exhausted after a game. That's the way we want to see it. Losing a game is not that bad as long as the players have fought on the pitch.

- No one will come to Tilburg with an easy win in their minds..... We are back where we belong!!!!!!  NR. 8 in the Eredivisie right now (but only a gap of 4 points on nr. 15, on the other side the gap with nr.1 is 6 points....)

Next week free weekend due to international matches. the week after a home match against Vitesse, who are in a real flow right now (last 2 matches won with 6-1 I think). Lets hope the extra weekend will break the flow.... I will unfortunately not attend that match, so probably no report of that game.... But what does this feel good... And @Kachina: are you watching?

Willem II lost their home game against "Chelsea 2" also called Vitesse with 1-4. I could not attend the match so no report this time. There was a very nice tribute to honour Mark "Divvy" Saunders in the 54th minute. For footage please have a look in the topic about Divvy...
