Only when we know exactly why our summer recruiting went so badly and who was to blame for that disaster and why subsequent targets turned us down and continue to turn us down, SC has gone and players are still turning us down.

Why would players come to us post-Cotterill? We have no permanent manager so there is no guarantee that new players would fit into the managers system/plans plus we are bottom 3.

I do not blame players not wanting to come here given the last 3 months.

Frustrating performance.

Played better than them in the first half, but was clear Byan and Freeman on our left were the weak links, and second half, with the reorganisation of our defence, they looked to exploit that, which is what led to the goal.

We need a specialist left back, and to learn how to make the final ball count/release the ball quicker - it's a pathology, in that we seem to value retaining possession over causing the opposition problems, and this kills us.  Freeman was not terrible today but is probably the worst offender in dithering over making a choice of play, often resulting in going backwards.

I'd like to say how well Bobby Reid did when he came on too.  All this bollocks about him not being physical enough; won and retained the ball several times, and is the one person who looks up and gets the ball moving quickly - he did well when in for Gladwin, who was visibly tiring, but also put in a shift, and looked a decent addition, if a little 'blunt', which is to be expected for someone with so few minutes under his belt.

And a word on their goal scorer; looked a ridiculous lump the majority of the game, with a first touch more like a pass in all but about two occasions, an inability to hold up the ball despite being built like a tank, and even having the ball strike him in the back of the head when he tried to run on to it.  But he scored, and that is what we lack; a poacher, who is in the right place at the right time.

Kodjia needs to stay on bloody side, but he did show flashes of brillaince; tricking his way into the box first half to draw a save, and winning a corner from a very tight angle second half from a snapshot.  The one time he WAS on side from a smart through ball second half he was flagged, but then the officials were both inconstant and flat-out bad all game, so what can you do?

That was a close match, but if we were more dynamic in possession, weren't lacking a specialist left back, and didn't have to disrupt our defence due to Baker getting booked for throwing himself in to challenges (he was identifying and aggressively defending the fact Bryan was having a mare, but still) then that could have gone either way.

On to Brum, where 3 points could jump us above MK, who won't be playing - that would be a hell of a boost.

i'm sure you mean the past 8 months, the past 3 months is a direct consequence of the inactivity between May and September.

Something went badly wrong and I suspect that SL had more than a hand in what went badly wrong during those months.

I assume this has been mentioned elsewhere but no harm in repeating...below is part of Pemberton’s excuse for the team losing today.

“I was at Leeds for four years so I know what it is like to play here. Some of my players were experiencing the mental test of playing at Elland Road for the first time."

You must be kidding!

Bristol City football manager making out it was a tough mental test.  Well if they are not prepared mentally then you should go mate. NOW!

I am flabbergasted by this response.

Definitely a strange statement, but perhaps he was trying to find yet another reason for City losing a match we should have won. At least he was civil in the interview, unlike Cotts, who would have snarled at the interviewer, blamed the ref, the pitch, the tea lady, the conjunction of the planets in the sky etc

Can someone, particularly those giving him dogshit for it, explain how the goal was Ayling's fault?

Yes, I'm confused as well! I just watched the highlights and don't really understand. On the radio they said he should've passed it back to the keeper, which made me think the Leeds player sneaked in and scored, but it didn't look like that at all! dodgy defending in the box more like it.

Well, if he cannot get them in the right mental state he certainly should not be saying it nor be in the job. I like him as a number two; i hope he is taken out of the hot seat as a matter of urgency.
