Repeat Of Coventry?

It's plausible but I'd say it's pretty unlikely. Blackburn are on course for around 45 or 46 points. Give them a bonus by assuming they beat us and say 49 points is needed for safety. That leaves Birmingham needing 3 points from 5 games and us 5 points from 4 games (assuming we've lost to Blackburn). Most likely scenario I can see there is that Birmingham will be well safe by the last game and we're either safe or need a win. I can't see much likelihood of us both being in danger of going down and yet needing only a point.

I figure the only way would for us to both be 3 points above Blackburn and Blackburn having improved their GD going into the final day.

Remember the Coventry game very well, what a day that was!

It was bizarre with all the stress and then suddenly there was a ' Chuckle Brothers ' moment , " To you , to me "

Well done Jimmy Hill .

come all within ,

you ain't seen nothing like the mighty chin ."

Repeat of Coventry? Which bit?

Did you mean matching their current record of going 48 years without finishing in the top 6 of any league?

Johnson would be 81 at that point but he might just have it in him.

I actually went out of my way to look that up, that is an absolutely incredible record! No league success in almost half a century, outrageous!

Thought you were on about the Coventry game a few years back when Bolasie scored.

Remember that game well; managed to watch it in an Irish bar in Sydney and celebrated Bolasie's goal by running out of the bar into the street waving my shirt around my head and screaming like a loon! Luckily the bouncers allowed me back in!

I would imagine there is a quite plausible scenario that would result in a point for both us and Birmingham being enough to ensure safety on the final day.

How hard would either side be trying to win that match if this was the case?

Hope so.  I'm bringing junior Robbette to her first game then, and if it's crucial I'll be mightily irked if  I'm having to fetch snacks, drinks and escorting her on toilet breaks throughout the game!

So am I! Are you me?

I interviewed Norman Hunter a few years back and at 2-2 he chatted to Coventry's Terry Yorath, his former Leeds team mate and made the now-famous arrangement. Mind you when the Sky Blues forward Mick Ferguson erroneously ventured into City territory, Norman allegedly shouted to Yorath, "Tell that ******* to get back in his own half!!"

The statistic, although true, is a bit misleading as the majority of that time was spent in the top flight where they were for far, far more years than any comparable club their size would be chuffed to attain. The nearest they came in thirty odd years to falling out of the top flight, except when they finally did, was that great escape shared with us in 1977.

They did magnificently well to remain in the top flight for so long, so the majority of that 48 years spent not occupying a top six position were actually successful seasons. Obviously, since they dropped from the top flight their record has been poor, but it is misleading, and dare I say, mischievous, to use the 48 year statistic even though it is true.

They'll be engaging me as the new CEO of United Airlines after that!
