Pre-season trip to Tenerife - confirmed

A random selection of easily findable pre-season schedules.

Sheff Weds are playing Alfreton, Mansfield, Doncaster and Portimonense who won the 2nd Division in Portugal last season.

Ipswich play Drogheda Utd (League of Ireland), Peterborough, Gillingham, Colchester and Charlton.

Even Villa are just playing Telford, Kidderminster, Shrewsbury, Walsall, then a little tour to Germany with two 45 minute matches, a match against Vitesse Arnhem and then randomly playing Watford.

Yes its a shame we don't seem to have managed to fix up with Tenerife but other than that we've got a pretty standard schedule.

Yes but when preparing for a season in a league with a clear gulf in class, surely the pre-season preparation should step up a level in terms of opponents?

It's a hiding to nothing - lots of wins and it is expected - lots of draws and defeats and everybody is flat.

At least a battling draw or narrow loss to the Newcastles, West Brom's etc of this world give you a stern test and no loss of confidence unless you are hammered - in fact a good draw or win might give the opposite optimistic effect surely?

Didn't we lose to much lower opposition in the pre-season we reached the playoff final?

Or absolutely hammer someone in the pre-season that we went down without any fight at all. One of those definitely happened.

Other than building match fitness, friendlies mean nothing.

I'm not entirely sure why you feel facts are relevant here? They just get in the way of slagging the club off.

A nice weeks holiday in the sun , friendlies with Torquay  , Yeovil and Cheltenham , my god we will primed and ready to go for it by the first day.

No worries

Liverpool will return to Tranmere and Wigan for pre-season friendlies on July 12 and July 14 respectively. That'll hardly "set 'em up for Man City, Spurs etc will it

I would say that we are two, possibly three, short of competing at the top end.

Averaging roughly two points per game for the last ten games of last season would indicate we are not far off.

Scraping not going down by three points, would indicate quite the reverse..
