Really cannot wait until Thursday.  Just to have something else to look at whilst I work!  Hard to come up with the best team though, considering 2 spinners are probably needed.

Many players not available as well for various reasons.  COVID (Moeen), birth of child (Burns), injury, resting (Stokes & Archer)

1. Sibley

2. Crawley

3. Bairstow (or Foakes, cannot decide)

4. Root

5. Lawrence

6. Buttler

7. Curran

8. Bess

9. Broad

10. Leach

11. Anderson

Weirdly Ollie Pope is there but not in the squad.  Certainly plenty of options in the bowling department with Woakes, Robinson and Stone to also be considered.  For a first test though, I would probably stick with Broad and Anderson.  Could argue Woakes over Curran as a slightly better threat with the ball.

I wonder if they'll go Bracey on the basis otherwise your 1-6 are all right handers and will allow spinners to get into a flow of just right handers. Woakes apparently first test is too soon fitness wise and Pope is out there as part of his recovery before the India series, so played the warm up game as part of that. Leach also ahead of Broad in batting order should be.

Bracey isn't in the actual squad, unless they have added him and I've missed it which could well be the case.  They could play him as he is there but he wasn't in the original 16 man squad so would guess they won't.

Stupid England naming so many reserves.... yeah you're probably looking at Foakes/Bairstow at 3 then, wonder with Ali all but ruled out whether one of the batters will be drafted in, can't see them drafting another spinner in as Root is a capable 3rd choice.

Darren Gough had a pop at the Aussies yesterday.

I don't want cricket to go too nicey nicey.  There needs to be a edge and some sledging but there is a line to be drawn.

Tim Paine should be fined for his dissent.  Steve Smith should be banned for 1-2 matches for what he did.

I had no problem with Paine's sledging until I hear Gough on that video saying that he called Ashwin a 'something-head'.  Assuming that is true and the word Gough didnt use is as bad as I imagine it is then he should be banned for ages.

Tim Paine: "I can't wait to get you to the Gabba, Ash."

Ravi Ashwin: " I can't wait to get you to India, it'll be your last series."

Tim Paine: "At least my teammates like me, d***head."

Was brilliant how Paine tried to get a nibble out of him then ended up nibbling big time himself.

Noticeable how half of Paine's 'banter' is apparently about how his team supposedly like him

Sounds like it is the above team but either Wood/Stone will play instead of one of Broad or Anderson.  Going to rotate those two apparently

Makes sense. The seamers aren't going to be bowling long spells so better to have an out and out quick bowler who can charge in and get something out of the pitch.
