No idea but not my job to find them.  Certain batsman you don't want to see walking out in these situations.

Woakes has got some backbone.  Cant see him being caught in the headlights.

In fairness Bairstow and Moeen are specialists in failure.

But that's my point. Who else is there?

The way the game is run in this country now means that those players aren't being produced anymore. And when they are they're criticised if they don't score quickly enough.

We should have been looking to go 3-1 in series and yet here we are staring 2-1 down.   We've not bowled well enough and our batting is turgid.

No doubt rent a gobshite Vaughan will be back lambasting County Cricket scores today...

For once I agree with him, because I think he was getting at the quality of the pitches rather than the batting.

I can’t be too critical of these players or this team as they’ve competed much better than I thought they would and have been beaten by a vastly superior team.

The elephant in the room, and the point that I’m confused some people seem to keep missing, is that this is a crap team. One test quality batsman, no frontline spinner, have only played in one test out of four with a pace bowler in the team, still utterly reliant on a (brilliant) 39 year old who is actually finally beginning to show his age in second innings of games. Without our talismanic superhero of an all rounder the cracks in this team cannot be papered over.

This is the first year since 2001 that England will fail to win either home series in a summer. Now fair enough, they’ve played the best two teams in the world, but my issue is that I’d advise people to get used to it. The England test team is in terminal decline thanks to the utter charlatans running the game in this country.

As for the Ashes, look at what’s happened in the second half of this game when the pitch has flattened out. We have absolutely no idea how to win on those pitches. If they win a game in Australia I’d be stunned.

Developing test match players just isn’t something that concerns the ECB anymore I’m afraid.

Absolutely spot on.

People are screaming for changes, but who? The cupboard is bare.

We’re just a shambles of a test side. Haven’t had the right balance for years in our batting line up, re-selecting poor players to make it work. Balance, Jennings, Sibley, Lyth, Carberry, Robson, Stoneman… to name a few.

Something has to change.

Yeah county cricket and coaching basic technique

We need more quality less quantity in county cricket

Coaches need to teach batsman the basics  Head still /Straight bat

Rocket science it is not

Not sure English fans are as bad as the Indians tbh.

That is a great post, and i agree with all of it. I do wonder where Test match cricket will be in 10 years.

There are significant shortcomings in the England team, but India were really good today. Bumrah is world class and you have to say Kohli captained and managed things well.

As for the Ashes - absolutely battered
