Even with that, we just didn't bowl well enough for long enough. And it's at times like this where not having someone like Archer or Wood with a bit of extra pace or something different really hurts us. Lrrr
Saw online Potts has settled into this England so well he's managed to go from debut season performances to second season syndrome in the space of 2 test matches

Lrrr
Glad for Pope, dug in early to see of the worst of the new ball to be able to then push on, lucky with one but everyone needs a little now and then

To be fair, the ball he got today would have done for better players than him, but he must be living a charmed life.

Kid in the Riot
Still very early days, but we may be seeing the green shoots of recovery under McCullum. He has given the batting line-up a bit of much needed confidence. And we seem to be seeing an even better version of Joe Root. Wouldn't go that far, this looks an easy pitch to score runs on if you see off a new ball, don't get me wrong the two of them have done very well but the NZ attack has struggled for ideas after the ball didn't move. The dastardly red
Root's an absolute legend. You could see it right from his early days. Pure class.

Would genuinely love to know the rationale for that decision. Agree though, he always looks wobbly when he comes in. On 02/06/2022 at 21:54, Kid in the Riot said: Any 3 will be nervous with our batting line up, you are likely walking onto the field within the first 10 overs, so need the skills and temperament of an opener. Pope has neither. Bizarre selection.

I would. Way better than anything else I've seen for a couple of years. Best session i can remember for a long time. From where we've come from, going into a third and final Test against NZ 1-0 up is improvement. As I said, still very early days though, and we have to make sure we see out this Test first... May have mis-read your post slightly, recovery yeah, but wouldn't say anything beyond that at this point, even something 'good' but yeah would agree with recovering, still think this pitch is too batting friendly though to judge too much. Or we could leave him where he is and let him learn how to play in that position. That seems to be the way the Management are thinking.
