By then both Root and Malan will be set and ready to face the new ball. I randomly awoke at 5:30am so got up, made a cuppa and watched the cricket live from Brisbane. I really enjoyed it. Theres no other sport more enthralling that Ashes cricket. It’s just brilliant. I love it. Edited December 10, 2021 by Robbored
tin
Much better from us today. Another 200 runs should make it interesting, but the new ball due in the first hour tomorrow will be key. I still expect Australia to cruise home by eight wickets or so. Even if we do get a bit of lead, we’re one — possibly two — bowlers down. Best-case scenario IMO is we bat on and on, keep the convicts in the field ahead of next week’s Adelaide Test and escape with a draw. Northern Red
In all seriousness, I was fully expecting the game would be done or nearly done by the time I woke up earlier, so it's good to see a bit of fight. Realistically we'd need to bat all day tomorrow as well to have a chance of getting out with even a draw, but it's something to build on even if we still end up losing.

We will get a lead from this position, the question is will it be 50 odd, 100 or 200?
Welcome To The Jungle
The boys have got to break tomorrow down into phases. Phase 1: Get back in again for a few overs., just stay in. Phase 2: Score till the new ball, but stay in. Don't chase runs Phase 3: Just don't get out for 20 overs Phase 4: Hope Hazelwood can't bowl and Starc and Cummings are tired, score, but stay in. Phase 5: Stay in! Phase 6: Get out Phase 7: Hope the pitch has deteriorated massively and aim for those cracks baby

PHILINFRANCE
Three wickets down in half an hour. I stayed up to see how we might do in the first few overs after the new ball. Will we see it?
Kid in the Riot
The fact that Stokes and Buttler are already playing one day shots tells you a fair bit about the quality and suitability of the batting line up.

Kid in the Riot
So I reckon the last competitive TEST England won in Australia (2011 aside) was December 1998 in Melbourne.

bearded_red
Last 11 tests in Australia, 10-0 to Australia. In those 11 tests we’ve managed to take 20 wickets once (at the SCG already 4-0 down). Apart from the freak that was 2010/11 our last test win in Australia with the ashes still on the line was in 1986. If you ignore the money and attention The Ashes brings in, purely talking about our performances on the pitch, it’s impossible to argue we even deserve to play five match series in Australia. We don’t just lose, every four years (with one incredible exception) we fail to even compete.

It's become a pointless series, sadly. 1986 ffs
