EmersonsRed
Gary Ballance is one of the best batsman we have... Until he faces mid-high 80mph, where he turns into a mess. His average is absolutely staggering between 0-85mph and 85mph +

I think the problem is that after that there is a full 30 seconds of Stokes launching punches/kicks at the lad whilst he is backing away and throwing no punches. He has no right to claim self-defence at this point as the bottle is no longer in play. The court will just say at this point he should've walked away. He'll be off to the magistrates court and get a fine would be my guess and he won't be going to the Ashes. Spot on with your summary of pretty zero chance of a self defence ,defence Kid But having seen the video , dependent on injuries etc I can see Stokes , cause of the continued assaults , being charged with affray, with a chance he could see a short term inside (Not saying that would be right - just what I can foresee) Edited September 29, 2017 by BobBobSuperBob

Lrrr
Added that Plunkett has been pigeonholed for limited over cricket by England.

...
Has everyone seen the No.55 toy they are already selling on Amazon? Action-man sized 'wind-up' toy with ginger hair. All it does when you wind it up is the arms go around wildly as if it is punching anything within arms reach. £15.99p What a cheap shot, eh?? tfj

The solution for me is Root at 3. He needs to step up and be the next Vaughan or Ponting, so if we lose that early wicket, to stand his ground. Even if his average goes down, it would give a chance to whoever is batting 4 and 5 to face and older ball and a less energetic attack, thus scoring more than we'd lose with Root. Also if your captain is willing to take the bull by the horns then others may follow suit and our overall game may improve. I'd also be tempted to play 6 bowlers (I know, I know) as Stokes, Woakes and Moeen are all effectively all-rounders. Take Crane so when the ball gets old, we can spin it both ways with Moeen and Crane. That said I may bring Wood in for Crane if he can prove his fitness as his pace would be valuable. XI for 1st Test Cook Stoneman Root Malan Bairstow Stokes Ali Woakes Broad Anderson Crane I agree re 6 bowlers - where's the problem if they also happen to be the best batsmen? Take Malan out , tell JB to just bat and add Foakes at 8 and you have removed 2 of the 3 problem positions, kept a decent tail. and given yourself a spare leggie. Might not work (probably won't) but beats recalling people who aren't good enough. It's really a needs must scenario. However after we lose 4-1 Bayliss has to go as test coach. 2 wins this summer against teams with bigger holes than us doesn't mask 3 years of underachievment. Northern Red
Even our particularly crap teams of the 90s, playing better Aussie teams than this one, usually managed to win a dead rubber.
Super
I fear a 5-0 and the aussies arent even that good. I think Starc and co will destroy the top order.

Lrrr
Difference between England and Aus, England withdraw Stokes from ashes squad and Warner punches Root and only gets suspended for a few games so he's back in time for the ashes. Very true, but I would say that Warner hit Root when they were all in the same bar, taking the piss out of each other and Warner punched Root ONCE Stokes, is seen to hit people on NUMEROUS occasions, even after the incident had cooled down

Guess I'd just believe until found guilty he should be allowed to continue as normal, as long as the police don't restrict his passport he should be allowed to go to Aus. If the guilty verdict comes back, fine throw the book at him.
