We can win the league - via safe standing!

Let's get City to win the league!

Well, maybe not the Championship (though who knows!), but as fans we have it in our hands to ensure the City supporters are recognised as the ones that did the most to bring about the first showcase of safe standing in England! (And this time one that can actually be used!)

As you may know, when not loitering here as Blagdon Red and a member of the SC&T board, I'm heavily involved with the safe standing campaign with my roadshow.

I also helped the club try to get the law changed in time for rail seating to be installed at the Gate as part of the redevelopment.

Unfortunately, government moves very slowly and we couldn't achieve that in time. However, the club remains committed to the concept, so a retrofit in the future (maybe in the new singing section area) is still very much on the cards ... as soon as the law allows.

And the chances of the law changing sooner rather than later will be greatly enhanced when the Football Supporters Federation and the fans of Shrewsbury Town open their showcase safe standing area.

It will show MPs and administrators how well it works, so that they then give the OK for this at ALL clubs.

And as we help the FSF and co. hit their target, we can have a bit of fun, get 'City' to the top of the league and potentially win 2 tickets for the Yellow Wall at Borussia Dortmund.

Here's how:

- Visit the campaign website here and contribute however little or as much as you wish (and there are plenty of 'rewards' on offer)

That's all you have to do!

The site will track all contributions made via this link and award points to 'Bristol City SC&T + OTIB', moving us gradually up and up the leaderboard. The fan, supporters group, forum or blog that tops the leaderboard at the end of the month will win 2 tickets for the Yellow Wall (in our case, we will then raffle them among contributors to the campaign who used our link).

You can also help to get us to the top of the leaderboard by sharing this unique link (https://www.tifosy.com/safestanding?scout=12909) and encouraging friends and family to chip in a few bob.

Let's make safe standing happen ... and show that City fans have played a big part in achieving that!

You can still sit. The point is that many of us want to stand and we cant. Would you not say its fairer to give us the option to stand in a safe environment?

The good thing about safe standing, of course, is that those who like to sit will no longer have their view blocked by those who like to stand.

And we've all experienced those problems during big away games and even at Wembley.

Much better to have a properly designed, fit-for-purpose area for standing fans, thus ensuring that everybody else who likes to sit can do so without having their view of the pitch impeded.

If you agree that this is a worthwhile objective, you can help to achieve it here: https://www.tifosy.com/safestanding?scout=12909

Is there a safe standing option that doesn't have the seats?

They seem a bit superfluous for the 90% of clubs that are never going to play in European competition.

Yeah, it's called 'T-E-R-R-A-C-E-S'!

Unfortunately, our political overlords have it in their heads that such things are death traps - at proper grounds, at least.

So rail seats are the answer.

BTW, 'Bristol City SC&T + OTIB' is now up to 7th on the leaderboard!

Come on, let's go top by the morning!

What happened to the safe seating trial at AG, or is it those seats that comprise your roadshow? Anyone else think that it won't  happen before the premier top six teams try it and then the FA/government will have a " what a great idea" moment and sanction it for a two year trial before opening it up to any other teams?

The small block in Atyeo block A obviously had to make way for the redevelopment. It could also only ever be used to showcase the concept on non-matchdays and never be used for a match, as rail seating is not allowed at present at grounds like Ashton Gate.

The majority of EPL clubs do want safe standing and only this week Richard Scudamore said on the radio that he would be going to government to present the EPL's view on this before the end of the year.

Getting the showcase up and running at Shrewsbury will also clearly help prove the case that rail seating works well in what are otherwise all-seater grounds, so every contribution to that campaign is very valuable.

And we are now up to third on the leaderboard!

So chip in your fiver, tenner or whatever you can afford. Let's get to the top of the table AND create this showcase of safe standing so that the MPs are won over and it's allowed everywhere, including at Ashton Gate!

Sorry BR , I wasn't criticising what you are doing, its just my cynical head thinking that a more celebrity/MP supported club is more likely to get the backing required to get this scheme up and running.

The current problem is that those big clubs aren't allowed to yet. Shrewsbury are. Thus they can showcase it ... which the big clubs are very pleased about.
