Well said LJ (merged)

Listening to the pre-match interview was good to hear Lee not only  acknowledge the sad passing of a former player but also the tragic passing of two teenagers this week. Whatever opinions there may be about him as a manager I think he is genuine about our club.

Just listened to it...

https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/audio-lee-johnson-pre-millwall-home-press-conference/

interesting comments about individual players, particularly glowing and positive about a number of them.

- Baker - coming into his prime, top end Champ if not Prem CB

- Magnússon - option at LB, international LB too

- Woodrow - obviously going to big up new signing, but also pretty open if not a little ambiguous about an agreement with FFC at end of season long loan

- O'Neil - played most of last year at 80% fit, said he's a quality player who is still building fitness from missing early pre-season.

Probably because he was busy managing Barnsley and Oldham.

Was trying to work out what he meant when he said about not having Leadership ability last year, 'some down to circumstances unbeknown to the club, that happened throughout the season'....

Was he referring to Tomlins domestic issues that affected the club?

I would say so @spudski - that was my reaction too

Before you hit 'Submit Reply' on your posts, do you ever read them back and think to yourself 'you know what, this is complete wibble, maybe I won't post it'?

Because you should do.

Is that what he said? That's a departure from a few months ago when LJ explained his absence from the squad, "Hörður's situation is very similar to Scott Golbourne; they specialise in one position. Either they start or miss out..."

Guess Jamie Mac has been working hard with him over the summer then.(?)

Jamie mac's the forwards coach.

Serious?

I suppose it could be argued that as an ex defender, he'd know where they don't like forwards making runs and such like, but it's an interesting one to put an ex left back in charge of your forwards.

I'm sure that Jamie Mac said recently in an interview that they shift things around during training so it doesn't get stale, so he may be with one group of players one day and another the next.

Jamie did use to score the odd good goal, but I guess it would be more to do with the postional aspects of being a forward, being an ex defender he's likely to know where the defenders would be and the type of space thats left I'd guess

Yes, and there is also a quote from him saying "I love the club"  when he was the Oldham manager.

How many clubs does he love!!

You don't mean to say that he said something positive about Oldham while managing them?  Outrageous!

I believe he was at Wembley supporting us Vs Walsall, along with Nicky Maynard and a host of other ex players. I also don't doubt for a minute that he probably had been to Ashton Gate on a rare occasion where he didn't have other duties.

What a bitter, horrible, sad little troll you sound!

As supporters, we tend to just have one team but I'm sure people involved in the game build affiliations with more than one team and would expect LJ could have done that with others but City are his favourite. Similarly, well loved City players have probably built that relationship with our club despite having a different one as their favourite - Jon Stead, Brian Tinnion, Aaron Wilbraham for example.

I have seen him chatting to fans, having pics with children and all sorts. No one can or should criticise him for what he does behind the scenes. The issue though is whether he can do it on the pitch, after all that is what he has been employed to do. I have been critical of him but I really do hope it works out for him. It is such a change to have someone at the helm who is committed and who wants to do well for us....I dont think any fans would wish him ill and criticism has been based purely on footballing grounds.

He might love the club but i wonder what would happen if man unitwd came calling and offered him 100k a week to manage them?

Thats not really fair though is it? Love for the club and the way one conducts themselves should not be confused with "ambition". If Man Utd came in for him, I would expect 100% of managers to leave. TBF, LJ is a credit to the club in the way he conducts himself and he represents us very well. His interaction with the fans is positive and you cannot always say that about our managers can you.... It is a shame that we went on that appalling run, because he has a job to do to win back the faith of fans.

It is refreshing to have a manager that seems to be doing things for the club, and not just for himself.

Like I've said in a previous post, any manager that works for us, has got to buy into the blueprint SL has set on how he wants the club run.

The Johnsons seem close with the Lansdowns.

I can imagine LJ has sat down with SL on numerous times in the past, over a bottle of red, way before he became manger here, and discussed how they could go about progressing this Club and finding a way of competing against the bigger boys.

I should imagine many plans and ideas were put in place.

We've certainly progressed the infrastructure of the Club since LJ has been here.

The appointment of LJ was no flash in the pan idea. It has been a long thought out process.

All alleged of course ;-)

I suspected - ever since the Oldham job - that SL wanted him here.

SL helping him prepare for interviews was a bit of a giveaway and I think SL loves a narrative like that - Gary Johnson's son coming to finish what his dad started.
