City v Cardiff - Fixture change for Sky, Now Fri 3rd Nov

I understand that there is a link between drinking and causing trouble, but I'm sure if people are looking for a fight they will do so anyway, pissed up or not. Perhaps they will take other ways to get brave and gobby, drinking is only one factor.

The Police will be praying for heavy rain.

They needn't have prayed. Surely they just needed to say "no, we can't move the fixture from Saturday lunchtime on the grounds of safety as we announced previously".

Well unless Emirates show it in their on board lounge that is me stuffed.

Thankfully my flight was already booked to get me home Friday AM:  a 12 noon KO is too tight for an arrival into Heathrow on Saturday morning.

Now waiting for it to be moved again for the exciting new "Thursday Night Football" slot.

I hate Sky.

And clearly the police are no longer concerned by our safety as its now on TV.

Hypocrites.

We did make representations very strongly to sky , along with the club.

Sky wanted to show this game and this day and time were reluctantly agreed upon by all parties after long discussions around other times and dates that were being offered

our job in conjunction with club security is to keep fans in a safe environment, be rest assured that will continue to happen at this fixture.

it may need more police numbers and slight tweaks to duty times but I would like to think that the steps forward we have made with this particular fixture can continue, whilst keeping the atmosphere of a Severn side Derby  alive .

we will be working alongside the fans forum members and updating and listening to them to ensure a safe and pleasant game for all, as much as possible we will keep everyone updated as to any changes in pre planned policing changes but at this early stage nothing is planned .

Out of interest what other times and dates were offered?

Just out of interest, what arguments did the police make against moving the game, and what did they offer by way of argument for the police to yield?

Sounds like more police will need to be on duty, which will come at a price. Is that price picked up by Sky, the club or taxpayers?

"We did make representations to Sky"

Surely it should be the the other way around.

The answer should have been "sorry Sky, but safety puts TV into the shade. We've already told fans that a late-in-the-day kickoff represents a risk, so you'll have to look to a different fixture".

Something smells wrong here.

It's a shame fans don't carry the same weight as Rupert Murdoch.

Bonfire weekend as well! :shocking:

Doubly so then, if anything better the game isn't on the Saturday generally then. Also from our perspective potentially encourages a higher attendance whereas some people may have been busy with other things.

I paid for the new BCTV package to watch all City's league games live .

When it's on Sky it's radio commentary only .

I feel cheated.

My only hope is to try and find a streaming site .

The Villa match I couldn't find anywhere.

Sorry but this is nonsense. If the original kick off time was pushed back due to Safety concerns ( which I think we all agree makes sense due to drinking time )  then how is a Friday night in November any safer than 3pm on a Saturday  ?  Not a dig at the police by the way ,but let's just call it for what it is.Sky have said it's being played on the Friday ,you deal with it !

Maybe the police prefer to work overtime Friday night instead of Saturday. Perhaps the overtime rate is better.

Friday night - alcohol, busy, dark, cold, noisy. Clearly far easier to control crowds and ensure safety.

I just looked, the original fixture had already been changed from 3pm to noon on the Saturday on Police advice, and now moved for Sky.

So it's too dangerous to have 3pm KO on Saturday, but it's safe to have an evening KO if Sky want it?

Yes it's a ball ache on a Friday night for some but reading the comments is mildly entertaining.

'7:45 kick off gives more drinking time at night' if fans are planning on staying in Bristol then it won't matter when kick off is they will stay and drink. A 12:00 kick off gives them plenty of time after the game to get trollied.

'Endangering us' really? The police aren't exactly locking us in a cage with hungry lions. They will do there best to stop violence occurring but the rule of thumb is you don't look for trouble then you won't get trouble.

From my understanding 'danger' doesn't come into it the police will look at games and try and make it as easy to police as possible. The police have to control the fans, night games are generally easier as fans arrive in dribs and drabs and not all together. This eliminates the Pack mentality, remember the EE netters, if there is a large group they will be escorted to the ground as usual. Like we were when we played them for the first time without the bubble.
