On both occasions he booked two City players. This will be his first visit to Ashton Gate, as he won't have visited the previous incarnation can we trick him into thinking we're a big club so we get decisions in our favour? Refs aren't perfect but they have a really difficult job to do with fans and the media on their backs the whole time. The problem is that there is very little respect shown by players/fans in the game. Football has now become a money grabbing exercise and the whole idea of fair play and respect particularly at the highest level has long gone. Add to that the media/press analysing every decision in order to create headlines and controversy. Rugby is not perfect as far as attitudes towards refs, but there is respect shown to them by players and fans. Nigel Owens is a perfect example of a ref who takes no nonsense from players - and they respect him for it. Refs will always make mistakes, but all have the best interests of the game at heart. If you'd been at Bristol v Hartpury fame a couple of weeks ago, most of the crowd were totally bemused by the useless twerp with the whistle. Lee Mason, just seemed to want to get the game over with and get a lift home form his mate 'Arry. One of the worse performances form a Ref I have seen down there for a long long time.
