Uefa nations league

Sounds like the wrong solution to the problem of too many international breaks.

A league isn't a terrible idea, but instead of making international football more meaningful, clump all of the matches together so we get fewer, but longer breaks. Teams can still meet up during the season, but it keeps training frequent while adding a more tournament feel to the qualifying process.

That would never wash with Clubs and the likes of Sky. They want their regular fix.  It's a good suggestion though. One of the reasons why we do poorly at tournaments is we don't seem to think about who is a good tourist. This matters when you are away together and boredom sets in.

It shouldn't mean any more international breaks. There are currently 4 in a season and with the A Group containing England there will be 4 groups of 3. That's a total of 4 matches in the group stage (2 home / away) which will account for 2 international breaks and then the top 4 teams will play a semi-final, final and 3rd / 4th place play off resulting in one more break. So the whole thing will be done in 3 international breaks. (assuming they play 2 games during each break of course)

The group games will be played over the 3 international breaks in Sep/Oct/Nov. It's not possible to play all of the games in 2, even in a 3 team group.

Before reading the (extremely confusing) bit about 2020 qualification I kinda held the view that this is in no way more important than friendlies than the Toulon tournament was. My view hasn't changed a hell of a lot as qualification is the only thing we succeed at, generally.

It's almost as if UEFA expects everyone to care as much about this as we do about the Euro's or World Cup (and lately even that is very little).
