The Sheffield Wednesday v Bristol City Match Day Thread 17

Recommended Posts

Problem with attracting players who wouldn't normally come here if we weren't riding high in the table is the likelihood of signing a Billy Big Bollox or two..  last thing we need right now is a personality that might upset what appears to be a happy family bunch in the dressing room at the moment, think the 'all in it togetherness' we have is a huge part of our current success. Don't need another Tomlin for instance do we.. ?

That said, we do seem to be doing pretty well when it comes to signing 'the right fits' for what the club is building right now, we seem to be on the right track in that regard, carefully vetting personality and attitude as well as ball playing talent, if, when, we bring in reinforcements I'm sure compatibility off as well as on the field will be considered.

Is a good result I feel..especially with the absentees. Seemed about fair I thought and is another step forward from last season.

lets be honest to even be slightly disappointed with only a draw shows just how far our expectations have risen, last season we would have been delighted with a point.

Thought the points being shared was probably a fair reflection of the game.

The first half neither of us seemed to want to attack and make a mistake. We often play this way which has been a frustration for many of our fans. At times we'll make 10 passes to get 5 yards up the pitch when it could've been done in 3 passes. We'll play this way appearing to await the other team to make a mistake and leave an opening. Though this way of playing as become less effective over the last couple of years as teams get plenty of players behind the ball against us and know what to expect as we're generally quite predictable.

Also what hinders us is the home crowd on many an occasion. We have stupid ticket prices, have made big money signings and have players on big wages. As a result many fans expect Wednesday to be in the top 6 minimum. As games drag on without scoring or creating many chances the crowd get restless, booing a 0-0 at half-time bring a prime example. All in all in doesn't equate to a confidence building environment for the players.

Thanks for the post mate, welcome to the forum.

The ticket prices are extortionate, no disagreements here. It does seem like a pervading belief that you were a big side, and as a result you should be challenging for automatic promotion. Overall it looked like a pretty dull game, but Hillsborough is a stadium every football fan should tick off.

Realistically with the players in your side you should be smacking teams around a bit, your attacking players terrify me, do you think your brand of football is getting the best out of them?

A tit-for-tat game I thought.

We probably had the best chances, but really both sides should have scored a couple each.

Poor finishing from our front 2, and Wednesday couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo

Each time there is an international break we come back out of sorts. At least today we were putting the work in, but the end product that has been winning matches wasn't quite with us.  A shame then that the World Cup is just around the corner - lots of international breaks

Next international break isn't until late March. Should be able to build up a head of steam by then :)

We certainly play too conservatively in the opinion of many Wednesday fans given the attacking talents at our disposal. Also given we paid so much for Rhodes we've done little to play to his strengths expecting him to play much deeper than throughout his career.

We've really missed Forestieri this season, he can be hit and miss at times but we lack a match winner without him.

I've seen the Bannan thread on here yep he's one of the best central midfielders in the Championship, if he could add goals to his game then I doubt we'd be able to keep hold of him.

What we lack is a few players who can mix it up physically so when teams come with this tactic we can match them. A couple of years ago we got outbattled in midfield against Hull at Wembley with their midfield of Diame/Huddlestone. We've done little to change things since.

The above frustrations along with seeing our rivals doing as well as they are is leading to much unrest in the fan base.
