@REDOXO 's point about not thinking much went on at Dulwich is quite interesting. It does depend on where you were and what time you were there at and before games.

ive arrived at pubs where everyone's talking about chaos a few minutes before and also heard about mass brawls after we left.

I remember once in a pub in Huddersfield, having some great banter with the locals, when us 4 City fans got up to leave, a policeman was at the door saying all fans had to stay inside as there was fighting going on and City fans were trying to attack the pub. We didn't like to say we were City fans, so just went back inside to our new found Huddersfield supporting chums.

I recall a similar thing at Aldershot of all places - we went in a Pub near the ground and it was full of Army and I am sure Gurhka's who must have been based there - it was really quite intimidating and they knew the 3 of us were City - but we were sort of "tolerated" - next thing we heard of loads of scuffles/sirens outside (and I think someone said fighting in the park unless my brain has really gone now) - and the people in the pub said - just stay in here and have a pint with us

Many rucks occurred away from the ground. Gas game at home in the 80's, a mob of City met at the Porthouse which was a regular meet for many. Next thing,  the Lamps turn up with a few vans (those in the know will know who the Lamps were). Many CSF pile into the vans after a mob of Gas were spotted in a certain pub by the Evening Post building.

Little trip across town to the known pub and City charge the front doors, several hidings were dished out as Gas exited via the backdoor. Although this sounds thuggish, in the 80's, this was normal behaviour for many. A very well known CSF member no longer with us will remember this day, as well as a few on here maybe? It was a scary time going away in the 80's but that was all part of the buzz at football.  During the 80's, feelings ran seriously high between City and Rovers.

Some you win, some you lose also. Can remember waiting for a train at Bath to an away game, and approx a dozen Geordies were on the same platform.  I was on my own and came unstuck. That was life!

RIP Div.

Remember the Porthouse/Clipper day well and piling in the back of those vans.

...this is so true. I don't dispute anything in any of the accounts of the Corinthian Casuals match, but my experience, as a young student in London for the day, was that there was a bit of a Millwall contingent who made their ominous presence felt during the match, but not much bother…what I recall is our truly abysmal performance! But then I have managed to avoid trouble down the years…all very sedate...usually a spectator from afar, despite being at many of the matches mentioned in this thread.

If anyone releases a book based on any subject, with the title spelt wrongly, it doesn't leave much hope for the rest of the content and surely makes a bit of a laughing stock of those involved.

Unless you are Rovers, of course. They would be very "prowed" of the author.

This......... its simple grammar and if not corrected is surely a gift on a plate to the prowed few ?

Went in the far side from our end when they (we were told it was Pompey as there game was called off) steamed in the back of the stand. Went down to have a look, many of our lot wore Pringle etc but I had a flight jacket on (scooter boy at that time) so blended in with the mob by the tea hut. City mobbed up and ran up to the End , which cleared quickly and the Police escorted us across the pitch , with dogs I seem to remember. We were parked up away from the ground and missed everything after, didn't hear about it until long after.

I have a couple of pics that a mate took while on the pitch .somewhere, may try and post later.

This thread got me thinking about old days.

Another great memory was when we played the Gas at Twerton Park one year.  Not the title decider night game when City fans tried to tear down the advertising hoardings but the one after that - I think? Game was all ticket, 6 of us went from TM and none of us had tickets!! We were in for an interesting day.

Anyway big mob CSF in Bath pre game, looking for enemy. Noone around as per usual.

Good drink in Bath. Then walked to TP.  OB was crawling around the ground trying to prevent people getting in without tickets, etc. So just as we were about to give up, my mate says "what about the houses over looking the ground"?  "Someone might let us watch from a bedroom window". So we walk through the middle of all the Rovers fans as they went in the ground with no problems to get to the front of the houses. Mate sees a lady at her front door and quietly asks if any chance of a bit of bedroom action!

After explaining what we were after/meant, she says "no problem" and let's us all in. Result!!

Prime view over 90% of the ground. Sorted! By now we were all pretty pissed.  City score to take the lead, 1-0. We erupted out of the bedroom window.  Now this is when things got interesting as the houses at Twerton back right onto the stand down the side of the pitch, where all the Gas were, so they heard us singing LOUD. So things start to get interesting.

Half time comes and my mate says "come on, let's go for a walk round the back garden, have a pee etc." Well we then all recognised an opportunity.  Over the garden back wall and we were then sat up on top the 10 foot high breeze block wall looking down on 5000-6000 gas.

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS at half time!!

So 6 of us sat on this wall singing out aloud "Ole, Ole, Ole, Bristol CITY!

You could of heard a pin drop for 5 seconds. Next thing all manner of stuff comes flying at us as we had to make a hasty retreat and take cover - back in the bedroom to watch the second half, before we got knicked for insighting a riot or something. Anyway I think they equalised and game ended in a draw but my memory is pretty bad nowadays.

End of game came, we thought we would have problems as they Gas were bound to be waiting outside the row of houses for us. But as we walk out, the place was crawling with OB,few gas around but think they were still in shock, so the OB just chaparoned us back round to the City fans. If the OB were not there, we would have taken a hiding.

What a day. Not to be repeated nowadays.

St Andrews when we beat them 4-1 if memory serves me correctly was a bit of an epic. Think we upset the natives that day somewhat!

Assume the Warsaw matches will feature, as well as the awesome trip to the City Ground for that semi-final.

Millwall at home in the early 80's was the worst I've ever witnessed. Chaos.

Friendly or the Anglo Polish Cup?

Were we not The InterCity Service Firm in those days? British Rail where are you now?

i always assumed that CSF was the same firm as ISF and it just got shortened over time. would be interested in the history of the name.

Be good if all that's in the book. Not just the battles but the whole history as well.
