After reading through this thread, it is obvious there are lots on this forum who are either negligent or just were not around back in the 80s/90s when the CSF were highly active. And AG was quite frankly quite a fearful place to visit for away fans from certain clubs.

The 80s were the best days supporting BCFC for me, never to be repeated, but the rave scene really took over for some of us.

Also away days in the 80s for City fans were lively at some clubs to say the least. Some guys "involved" are no longer with us, of which some were good mates with several on OTIB I know for a fact, including myself.

PL has written his "take" on BCFC, the culture, and believe me, he was in a good position to put his view in writing. Regardless of what you may or may not think of the book or PL, read it 1st before making comments on OTIB.

If you are'nt interested in the culture/history of BCFC fans 80's/90's, just ignore this thread.

city fans fancying a meet up with fellow city fans to check if they are brave enough or not...

cyder in a can is someone who follows this club home and away and very knowledgeable about its deep rooted history.

i have seen nothing in this forum to suggest he does not recognise the fact the csf exists...all I see is him trying to understand more about its importance from those involved.

i couldn't care less about it either way, I may even but it I may not, but veiled threats against other fans...really?

Still is a fearful place. How many pubs around the ground do you see away fans take over and drink in? Er none.

Compare that to where City go.

Funnily enough I think the only teams in recent memory whose 'lads' have actually got a drink on N Street are Bolton, Barnsley and Rotherham .

Now and again. But it's not a patch on The Sullivans.

I hope they pay homage to that in the book.

You know, that bit in the opening credits when that kid has his hat pulled down and chases that other lad. Hopefully we'll get the real details of what happened next. I'd like to think that he shanks the one who pulled his hat down and then kicked him in the bollocks.

The Sullivans. If ever there was a reason not to be off school sick, that was it.

Aaaaah those were the days.

its all becoming a bit clearer now: the City Service Firm just being a covert group of City's Sullivans Fans.

Marvellous, isn't it. Hmmm.

do you not think? even nowadays I don't think many teams go walkies around BS3 - didn't two Wolves think they could last season only for it to bite them on the bum?

It ain't like it used to be . See plenty of away fans around the Gate and normally there is no problem . Maybe the CSF don't allow away fans in certain pubs and parts of BS3 but I've never really noticed.

CCTV killed the hooligan.

Can't say I've really been involved , did throw some stones as a kid as Preston coaches left Bemmy Station to go to Ashton Gate . If the CSF are real and their pub is the Lions I must say I like the guvnor and his boy and the memorabilia in their always gets me intrigued.  Sausage and chips after a Sunday morning game is a treat on the odd occasion I've guested for the Lions

Don't get me wrong I don't ever see lots of big away fan groups anywhere near Ashton Gate unless they are being escorted in by the Police . Maybe that's what they means ?!

Would be amusing if pitchside digital hoarding advertising was purchased for the book.

Would definitely be the most effective way of marketing to the right audience in fairness!

We did have a CSF advertising hoarding pitchside a few years ago, until the club cottoned on to it and took it away

so, I see people slagging off this book, if you don't like the book or its subject matter don't read it, its a free country, which means Paul can write whatever the **** he wants.

after reading some of the responses to this and the post about the kid celebrating a goal with the players and actually WANTING HIM BANNED, I wonder what has happened to people who go to the game, sick of this holier than thou super sanitized crap,  its football, we can get a little over excited occasionally, ffs.

It also means people can criticise whatever they want.

Can't have it both ways.
