Kudos to you both. Dave it sounds like you're deflecting the attention away from yourself playing to a very good standard. :P

Played Western League, but depends on what you define as very good standard (9th tier of the pyramid if that’s context).  There are obviously some very good players at that level, I wasn’t one of them.  Remember playing against Mangotsfield when they had Carl "Billy Ocean" Saunders and Steve Cross (ex-Derby) alongside a whole host of well-renowned local players, some of whom had been to Wembley as part of the Taunton FA Vase side a season or two before.  It was a joy to pit your wits against those types of players.  I loved every minute of it.

Yet, when my ‘chocolate knees’ (see earlier reference) gave up the ghost at 30/31 I gave it up like that, and never missed playing at all.  Thought I would, but didn’t.  Didn’t miss the dressing room banter, which is what everyone thinks.  If anything, the thing I missed was the routine of packing my bag, bit of scrambled egg on toast, and then Football Focus,.  Funny, really.

Good days, many friends gained through football, whether teammates or opposition.

from 19-21, I played in the Costcutter Ceredigion League (Fab name) which is level 5/6 (depending on if I played for the Firsts or Seconds that week) on the Welsh Football Pyramid. So 4 consecutive promotions away from playing in the Welsh Prem with another uni team (Cardiff Met).

Sounds reasonable when you put it like that but it was essentially running around on terrible pitches being kicked by young farmers with a deep distrust for English people (and especially students).

I play 5-a-side in Filton, which I wouldn’t bother mentioning if it weren’t for bumping into Scotty Murray there just before Xmas! Sound bloke, but I reckon that’s common knowledge on here. :city:

Scott Murray a sound bloke? .... FFS if that's common knowledge why hasn't he been asked to sort out the stadium tannoy system yet?

In my teens Weston & District, Westlands A, Brent House (Sat  side), The Woodborough (Winscombe), then 1984-2003 Worle Old Boys in Somerset Senior and Wes&Dis. 600+ games.

Some great memories especially against Imperial, Robinsons, Stockwood Green, Keynsham Cricketers, Bishop Sutton...

Imperial and Stockwood Green - played for both.  Imperial when I was young (alongside Trevor Tainton several times) - Stockwood Green - snapped ACL in my fourth game and ultimately where I hung up my Puma Kings! :P

I haven't played competitively for roughly 30yrs but at my prime played Western League as was back in the 70s. Great days but with very little tactical  guidance. It was all about winding up the opposition and being more aggressive. It was far more violet then than it is now.

I played at Wembley n the FA Cup - seriously!

Away to  Wembley FC in the first Qualifying round :)

Played County League in Sussex late 70s to mid 80s. Played against a few ex Brighton players back when they were a first division team when they played for local teams at the end of their careers. Played against Kevin Mabbutt when Palace sent a team for a charity game for the Queen Vic Hospital in East Grinstead ( of Macindoe plastic surgery fame, for those oldies) Kember and Vince Hillaire I also remember playing. End of season pitch brink had like playing on corrugated sheets but they pinged it about like playing on a billiard table.

You couldn’t beat Puma Kings, from Sportsfair in Broadmead:)

Crikes.

Nothing beats playing in the Midlands Leagues around the time of the Miners strikes. Played for a team based in a strike-breaking area. I’ve got a gash down my shin that required 23 stitches to prove it - and I wasn’t even a miner or remotely associated with that industry.

We went on tour to Rotherham (of all places)  a few years after the end of the strike, the two miners who played for us wouldn’t go.

Played league footy in Bristol from the age of 6/7 onwards having spells with Hanham Athletic, Deerswood, before my transfer to Stapleton U-16 around 1997. We famously put the Rovers YTS crew out on their ass, on our way to winning the Swindon 6's tournament in 1998. Popped up around a few teams at Screwfix level before calling it a day around 19/20 when I went to Uni.

Moved to London, then ruptured my ACL playing for a Sheffield Wednesday supporters team (don't ask). I now only play 5 a side in East London once a week to a reasonable standard. No more grass for me...

Where do you play? I live in East

Played Bristol Regional League for 3 teams in my teens and early twenties. Ran the line a few times as well.

Ended up finding women and beer a bit more interesting than football, then went back to football once I got married.

When my eyesight started to fail, I thought about taking up refereeing :)

Nearly 60 now and even kicking a football pulls a muscle.

BTW, I'm not called Wendy. When de red red robin comes bob bob bobbin along. Got it?

Played County for Berkshire, QPR Academy between 16-18 .. tore my ACL/ruptured my LCL and dislocated my kneecap in one go, tried to make a comeback with Aldershot, never felt the same; was also told by at least 3 specialists that I shouldn't long term be playing or that my knee wouldn't be able to manage it played a massive psychological part so "retired" just before 20. Haven't kicked a competitive ball since then. Turn 27 in April.

Same as a lot on here, I've played in most of the local leagues from District, Suburban up to County/Western etc. Congresbury, Plough and Windmill, few games for Welton and Bishop Sutton amongst many others. Played District Prem at 16 for Soundwell Victoria too.

I was never one of those players that wanted to get as high up as I could and just played for the fun of it, so if there was a club I enjoyed playing at I tended to stay there for a while, otherwise I would have a game here and there to help people out who were short.

Fell out of love with playing at 28 and have never played 11 a side since (42 now), and I can't say I miss it at all. Sitting on the sofa or watching games seems much more fun than running around a freezing cold pitch with a hangover on a Sunday morning.

Played alongside some City legends for the youth team that reached the semi final of the FA youth cup in 1970 and then went on to play at a decent standard until my body said enoughs enough. The Spurs team that beat us included Graham Souness, Steve Perryman and a host of others that went on to play league football for other clubs.

Not sure what type of football you played then RR, but it is definitely a bit more pink or lilac these days. :)
