Free Coach Travel

Following the successful launch of the #FollowFulhamAway campaign earlier this season, Grosvenorcasinos.com are delighted to announce they will be providing free travel once again for Fulham fans heading to Ashton Gate.

Can't remember if City have ever done this? Looks like it's a sponsored thing.

We have never done this.

Think the likes of Bolton and Leeds away would have been a great opportunity too. Use some of the Sky money to help our supporters get to these games.

Small financial commitment from the club but would go a long way and I'm sure the players would appreciate it... @Matt Parsons BCFCSLO

Clubs outside the Prem who offer these travel subsidies, usually have the costs covered by sponsors. It’s rarely the clubs themselves that provide it, although that has been done on occasions.

It would be great if we could get a company on board who was willing to sponsor travel to a few games.

Personally, I probably wouldn’t use it anyway, but I’m sure many would.

Hi all,

Coming into the club, this is something I wanted to explore further and will be discussing with the relevant people to see what is possible. From experience (in my previous role before joining City) clubs within the Premier League also had the fan travel initiatives sponsored by club partners too. I have  also seen the positive impact travel incentives can have by getting more fans to games and by bringing the club & fans together too.

I remember City did free coaches once, to QPR in the late 70's.

Thanks,  Matt.

A good place to start would be Stoke City. They've been offering free away travel for 5 years and have seen their average away following increase by 40%.

Agree with that, Stoke actually have lots of good ideas regarding supporters.

@Matt Parsons BCFCSLO I also think the issues we have at away games with larger followings and the sitting/standing debate could be solved by trying out their policy.

Fan who wish to sit down during the match are advised to request tickets at the front.“

Premier league clubs get a chunk of money each season that gets spent on supporter incentives. That goes towards this scheme, I believe.

@Phileas Fogg The Stoke City away ticket model is something that has been mentioned to me and is something ill be asking Supporter Services about to see how they can facilitate it as I know it can be an issue when we have a large away following (QPR and Villa being the example in recent months).

@Bar BS3 That's correct too. Ive seen a few clubs use the Premier League fan money to spend on travel incentives for fans over recent seasons.

Thanks Matt, as always appreciate the quick response. I think it's a great idea that would help on those away games where we have 2000+. Would give you a like but seems I can't!

I think the best solution you can put forward to the board, in that case, is.... get promoted..!

I’m available any time for advice and trouble shooting solutions..!

I’ve commented on another thread about the Sunderland fans left at half past midnight to get to Cardiff for a 12.30pm Sky game in January. Now I’m seeing Bournemouth fans will also travel through the night when the go to Huddersfield on Sunday, noon ko. Coaches leaving Weymouth at 1.45am, making various stops until finally departing Bournemouth at 3.30am.

Sad we need financial incentives to support our team but guess our true numbers will be seen by millions at the Leeds game.

If it's in your heart to go you will find a way, carshare or something. Reality we go to a few games (only) per season in numbers butgenerally a league 1 away following to support a near Premiership club

Incentives for season ticket holders like half price away day travel would make me more likely to catch the away day buses rather than having to make my own way up. It's a thought, however I reckon just if, and it's a big if, we go up this season, we could see even more incentives like free coach travel on late night matches and things like that.

A thing CATS sometimes did way back, probably mid/late 80’s was that we had one coach who would go much earlier in the day (for evening matches) and you could have a day at the away town, go to the match then get the coach back after as normal. I did this for Brighton and Blackpool. I quite like looking around other places, having something to eat etc, even if only for a couple of hours, better than getting off the coach and having to go straight in.
