Renewed or not renewed. Please post here

Hi all,

I know there’s a thread already, but I thought I’d start one so we can gauge how many people on here have renewed so far, or haven’t renewed based on the current pricing.

If you could also post (if you don’t mind) saying if you are or aren’t affected by the pricing announced at this stage.

For example, I would be

“Not renewed and not affected by pricing”

Hope that makes sense.

Me and my two mates have renewed.

We are all Seniors (seats in Dolman wings) so, for us £345 each for the whole season (or about £15.00 per game) is still very good value.

I have not followed all this controversy, but I really don't know what all the fuss is about.

Have you bought a ticket for a show in London lately ? You certainly won't find one for £15 in the West End.

With respect, people don’t normally go to ‘shows’ twenty odd times in the space of 9 months, and certainly not twice in 3 days which we do at times. Yes in the West End I would expect to pay West End prices. But we are talking about football here, a working man’s game was where it roots were. Even working men now cannot afford to attend, and that is very wrong.

I try to remain restrained in the main but the utter self interest and lack of empathy around is quite astounding. It does reflect society though I'm afraid.

If you haven't followed it and you don't know what the fuss is about you'd probably be wise to not comment. Many people have made themselves look stupid talking about things they do not understand.

In previous years, it has been requested that part of the ground remained cheaper, perhaps this was the aim here.

But that would still be the case, blanket 5 or 10 % across all seats would make each seat a bit dearer, so expensive and cheaper parts of the ground would still exist. I too think it’s the ‘season tickets frozen’ marketing blurb @Old Rascalmentions.

I agree £15 per game is good value, but you are missing the point, presumably because, in your own words, you haven't followed the controversy.

The main issue is that the massive increases in certain parts of the ground, for certain categories only (ie children and Seniors) means that groups of fans now have the choice of either paying those increases or, if they cannot afford them, move to other parts of the ground thus moving away from other friends around them, thus losing an important social aspect of football.

As I understand it, during the meeting at which these reasonable points were made, Bristol Sport compounded the feeling of grievance, with a response which was more or less, "tough".

Either on the wind up or a sold gold penis.

Explained this many, many times.

1) Are the West End shows a traditionally working class event?

2) How many times a year do you attend a West End show?

3) Has your experience been getting gradually worse and worse, at West End shows?

4) Do companies that produce shows show an utter contempt for the paying customers?

5) Do West End shows make the disabled and children pay an unjustifiable amount in posh seats, in an effort to get them to move to areas with worse views, in order to sell the posh seats to punters who couldn't give a toss what the show is?

6) Do people develop an affinity with West End shows, for which many would die for?

The OP asked people to state whether they have renewed season cards (or not)

That is what I did - from a purely selfish perspective I will admit.

For me (and my two mates) the cost is very acceptable, in fact I think it is too cheap.

As average life expectancy increases, the idea of giving a substantial discount to someone who is over 65 is becoming unsustainable.

Same thing with a free bus pass for the over 60's - why should younger tax payers subsidise me travelling on a bus ?

A wild stab in the dark, but are you by any chance a supporter of the Conservative Party?

I have a funny feeling Nick that next season, people might be surprised at how easy it will be to sit where and with whom they like.

Why not? You subsidised them  when they were children and their grandparents when you were a younger taxpayer. .

Possibly educate yourself on the issue before entering the debate with ill judged comments.

Having reasonable knowledge of disability benefits i would think the outrage at the increase in price for a disabled season ticket  is misplaced. Also 150 pounds for a 20 yesr old's season ticket does not sound expensive to me. I feel the concessions have been too generous in the past rather than focus on the increase this year

Really? Because I too have some knowledge of disability benefits and I sure as shit can say some registered disabled persons can't afford to go.

Some are even in this thread.

No offence Peg but that's a 67% rise, not 40%. Obscene price hike!

My apologies Ska J. My maths ain't what it used to be!

£5 says they drive a Jag with a set of Calloway golf clubs in the boot. They'd use a bus pass to wipe their arse after having a dump.

Not renewed yet as hoping to move to Upper Lansdown which for a senior is cheaper than Lower where I am this season, disgusted at the clubs attitude though re disabled and kids, corporate carp . Wish  it was like old days when you could visit the Gate, pick your seat for the next year and get on with life and talk face to face !!

I don't like that I feel this way, but I'm finding myself becoming more and more detached from the game. I feel disillusioned by it all, the money, the corporate side to it, the commercialised nature of the game, the cheating, SKY, wages etc etc. I could go on. It's just difficult to relate to anymore as a regular punter. Although football has been such a big part of my life to date, I can feel myself moving away from it.

It's sad but I get the impression a lot of folk feel the same.

I'll be renewing but with each season I do wonder when I'll stop. I feel disillusioned by professional football and arguably attend out of 'sense of duty' Don't get me wrong I love watching City play but it's getting harder to justify.

The play acting, the money and the hyperbole about the game these days puts me off. With Ashton Gate things like parking (or lack of it) that's expensive, cost of drinks and a pie plus the ticket and fuel costs make me debate if I can be bothered anymore. I love the whole build up, walking to the ground and sitting in my seat (would prefer to stand but hey ho) enjoying the match with my dad but how much longer I can afford to do that is another thing altogether.

One of the saddest things for me is that if/when I have children I probably won't be able to take them to matches due to costs. Hopefully the bubble may burst and football will return to normality but I fear it never will.

I do feel the a 5 or 10% increase, would have been unpopular as well, and the Club would have been criticised for increasing the price of the cheapest tickets.

I have already made the point that the change to Wheelchair pricing method is in line with other organisations, look at away ticket details for Barnsley and Millwall.

I as a wheelchair user, have renewed my ST as I have been used to being charged using this method.

My ST has increased by £115, as I now pay the increased adult price for sitting in A10, and not the concession price.

Perhaps this could have been better explained and phased in over two seasons.
