I’ve also found a fascinating shot of the Memorial Stadium, from what I can only assume was also from the early/middle part of last century.

It's amazing to think how football fans years ago were used to watching games in such poor grounds like this. Luckily such grounds are now a thing of the past ... aren't they?

There were a few more old images of the Gate in previous posts, like the "Ashton Gate 1928' thread in the Archives. Some might well be unavailable now but there are more on the original Britain from the Air site. Fascinating to see the way things have grown over time.

If you squint closely enough, you can see the 20,000 ragamuffins who were locked outside.

Also, those tents have certainly stood the test of time.

A lot of houses have sprung up, between 1930 and 1933....including Shedman's!

We should have got in first and built a double tier East End in 1931!

Not sure parking would have been any easier in 1930; no roads!

Great pics.

Can anyone remember Eastville?  What a s**thole that was too.

With flower beds behind the goals, between the pitch and the dog track.

In spite of it all there was tremendous atmosphere during the local derbies.

It wasn’t surprising there was a tremendous atmosphere, as there was a gurt big gas work on one side and a smelly river Frome on the other.

I personally hadn't seen these pictures before, am sure they may be of interest to someone?

If not just use the site to look at other places of interest  https://britainfromabove.org.uk/en

Bristol has changed a bit since then.

Dont see any traffic. No residential parking. No double yellow lines. A lot of grass. If only we had a multi billionaire owner back then. We could be playing in a bigger stadium than the Nou Camp

I'm amazed they were allowed back into the Football League

Brilliant pictures. Makes you wonder with all that space why they built the last few so close to the east end. amazing how different the Area is
