Quite right. It is also essential that these countries decide how they spend their money, not us, or they will never progress and lift themselves out of poverty. They are a sovereign nation and should be allowed to spend their money as they wish. I hardly think we're in a position to lecture given we are an enormously wealthy country that spaffs billions on vanity projects and wars, whilst having tens of thousands of our own citizens living in poverty, homeless and/or reliant on foodbanks. UK government gave £64 million 2017/18 and plan to give £62 million for 2018/19 IMO it's a joke that £29.5 million is spent on advertising for 1 season just because the president's a Arsenal fan! IMO if we give them £64 million in a year we should be able to ask the question regarding a 12 month £29.5 million sponsorship deal at a football club. I get that you have to spend money to make money, but they are not spending £30 mil on advertising on various platforms for tourism, it’s all on 12 months of a sleeve of a football shirt. you can sponsor the Chanpions League for £12 mil a year. That’s 12 times longer on one of the largest viewed football tournaments in the world which includes all the adverts, billboards, etc. They can spend their money on what they want, but as some others have mentioned, whoever it is that deals with aid from the UK should be asking for proof as to where the money our government/taxes go. The real issue is why the UK gives such a corrupt country £60m in aid. The human rights rights issues are terrible - see link below. If you can’t be bothered to read all of it, just read the “Critics of the Rwandan government dead or missing” section. Also, it just happens that the Rwanda president Paul Kagame is an Arsenal fan. Why? We should be ensuring that the financial aid we give them is spent properly, as a matter of course. Beyond that, how they run their country including the tourist board is entirely up to them. There is a difference between aiding frugal, self-governed investment which we should, and bankrolling wild spending. In the context the sponsorship is unjustifiably expensive. Lots of players of African descent or with African are/have been very prominent for Arsenal - Viera, Eboue, Lauren, Kanu, Aubameyang, Iwobi, Welbeck, Sagna, Adebayor.. Rwanda is very close to the location of the fictional land of Wakanda from the hugely successful Black Panther movie which is a superhero movie set around a fictional highly advanced African country. Lots of players do the gesture from the Black Panther movies when they score.. including a very familiar face What advertising will be shown prominently when Arsenal players do this celebration? Visit Rwanda. I bet Arsenal players will be 'rewarded' for doing this celebration next season. Pretty clever move actually given the movie's success.
