Alessandro
Few thoughts: 1) Moral objections about gambling IMO are pretty hypocritical after years of complicity with alcohol advertising, Thatchers, Carling, Heineken etc. Alcohol accounts for over 300,000 admissions to hospital every year and over 5000 alcohol related deaths. That’s not only an issue for those alcholics, but a drain on the NHS and the tax payer. An arguably wider issue IMO than gambling addicts going bankrupt. 2) Over 50% of the club’s in the top two divisions were last season sponsored by betting companies. 23 out of 44. Of the rest, over half are sponsored by other financial institutions, Wolves for example a pay day loans company, which are arguably less scrupulous than betting companies. We were part of 5 teams in the top two divisions to be sponsored by a “smaller” local company. Now with us and Ipswich going to betting companies - That’s only 3 out of 44. Personally I would rather see a local company, or even as Villa did (and maybe others) a Charity. But we have done the local company thing, and no doubt it was good at the time but money is money. We got to pick up our ball and run with the bigger boys if we want to be taken seriously on and off the pitch. If that means wearing a pattern and a few words on shirts then take the money and laugh at the people who are prepared to pay vast sums and get a bit of publicity back, and they don’t know how successful their investment will be. They are the ones gambling once we have spent it!

KingLear
We're not breaking ground here, we're jumping on what is a very lucrative bandwagon, so many other teams have done it, why should we not profit from it? At the end of the day, if you want to find a betting site online (or down the high street), its ridiculously easy to do so. Us having a logo on our shirts will not make that easier. But what about that is different to alcohol, which has a long standing, mostly celebrated/encouraged, relationship with supporting football? Surely if you’re morally outraged at the rampant promotion of gambling you have to have the same stance on alcohol? I don’t remember any outrage about the Carling Atyeo stand, or Blackthorn on the shirts, or the Heineken Lounge etc I’m not denying that those with an addiction need help. Believe me, I have first hand experience of the impact of addiction. But unless all clubs cut all ties with anything that could be considered addictive, then I don’t see why City would be expected to turn away enormous commercial opportunities on some kind of moral crusade. Especially in light of the large proportion of dissatisfied fans with delusions of grandeur. City and OTIB are addictive perhaps we should close both down now for the sake of the children . I didn’t buy anything from Lancer Scott after having their logo on our shirts for a couple of years so I doubt if I will suddenly feel the urge to squander my savings on a betting site if that’s the case. Take the money, if we don’t get it somebody else will. And as I said smile sweetly as will will be getting a better deal than them.

Midlands Robin
To be honest, I couldn't give the fury crack of a rat's ass what goes on the front of our shirts. It's more about the people who wear it and their ability to drive the club forward. I understand some people will be uneasy about a betting sponsor but it hasn't even been confirmed yet so we need to be careful. At the end of the day we are moving in to an era where we have to compete with some very big teams that have a legacy we, with our handful of years in the top flight can only wish for. To do that we have to accept a lot of potentially unpalatable things. The big question is, are we as a fans prepared to do that? It's a tricky path to go down but its the road to success in modern football however distasteful we find it.

TV Tom
I’m a gambler myself and I can assure you it is a truly awful addiction, bookies in my eyes are lower than a snakes belly and to see them recently trying to justify that it’s perfectly ok for the addicted to blow £100 in 20 seconds on a roulette machine which can’t lose was disgusting, I don’t think i’ve ever agreed with any Tory policy ever made but fair play to them for putting a stop to this robbery

There are some things that I wouldn’t want to see on the front of our shirt, but a betting company logo isn’t one of them. I’m personally not a big gambler (I do the postcode lottery), but I’m not offended by it. Gambling can be addictive, but as pointed out by many so can alcohol. Both can be pleasurable if kept within personal limits. City have shown a responsible attitude towards its youth groups in the past by not allowing alcohol ads on junior shirts, so I trust them to be so again. If the highest bidder wanted to put the shite imoji on the front of the shirt, then that’s what would be there. It’s business! Have the 15ers yet held their annual shirt sponsorship raffle?
