The Nest Egg
Give it a few years and these gambling sponsorships will be outlawed on shirts, and rightly so. Similar to what they did with the general eradication of alcohol sponsors in the Premier League. We're already bombarded with betting advertisements as football fans, and while Joey Barton is an idiot he makes some fantastic points about the proliferation of gambling-related marketing in football. Just a bit better off who could afford to sponsor our club when let's face it we were struggling g to attract anybody else. Big offer comes along, nice knowing you thanks bye then! My point was that this sort of commercial agreement would be governed by a raft of legal documentation. No way would BCFC just be able to say ‘thanks very much, goodbye’ halfway through the deal without financial penalty, assuming LS have a semi competent commercial person/people

People want us to act like a massive club on a high budget so if that’s to happen we need to get the best commercial deals available and I can’t imagine Lancer Scott can match the financial clout if it is a big betting company. Spot on.....there was probably a clause in the agreement with Lancer along the lines of....’if a third party offers more sponsorship dosh than you then we reserve the right to cancel your agreement and we’ll compensate you accordingly....’ as you say, people want us act like a bigger club so we need to maximise revenue through commercial deals....it wasn’t so long ago our shirt sponsor was ‘Bristol Trade Centre’ - absolutely no disrespect intended to that local organisation - we should always be thankful for any financial support - but I doubt they paid too much to get that exposure....and we were a championship club at that time too... cidered abroad
I'll throw this in without any ITK but could it something with a link to Botswana? SL has business interests there. I, personally, would be disappointed if it was a gambling company. All the addictive pastimes are not really my cup of tea. Broke the smoking habit over forty years ago, enjoy a half bottle of red three times a week and haven't set foot in a betting shop since getting very lucky on two classic horse races in the first year bookies became legitimate (1962?) But whoever is the new sponsor, it will be wrong for some. SL cannot win 100% support for this one.

The Coach
Haven't read all the replies on here. Definitely seems though we're throwing away that local club image, and going for a more larger corporate image, like most of the big clubs. Wouldn't surprise if we next sold the naming rights to Ashton Gate.

What's not to trust about that? It looks like the club have received a massive offer for sponsorship that was too good to turn down so they've spoken to Lancer Scott and offered a deal to clear the space for the new company. If you signed a contract for a job at £100 per day for four years and someone came along offering you £500 a day for two years what would you want to do? Stop trying to find another point to complain about. If you sign a deal you sign a deal. Like I said, sure there’s nothing untoward, just that the statement on the OS is probably bollocks. Again. I’ve said why I can’t understand that LS would willingly stand aside and give up the kind of exposure they got last season. Not that it needs explaining! It was just a hunch anyway, but no great surprise what @frenchred said either.

Fpcity
I wouldn't have a problem with a betting company. The more income the better wages, fees we can pay and maybe a bit of exposure in Asia. And KiddieBet for the youngsters then? Yes lets ram it down everyone's throat. BabyBet, GrannyBet, EnterTheGateOnlyIfYouBet, WedontgiveashitBet, GetAddictedbet, SuicideBet. .. all are Asian based i believe. Anyway, i don't believe it. Mr Lansdown is better than that. I have every confidence. HSBC, Hutchison Wampoa, Dai Ichi, Toyota ... they sound better. Lansdown made his money in betting! With respect you have absolutely no idea what deals were on the table, or could have been achieved, or how much we are even getting from this deal. For all we know this betting company may have only offered £200k more than say, an electronics manufacturer, and we've just taken the highest offer out of principle. Doesn't mean we're suddenly going to be rich beyond our wildest dreams.

I’m not sure it’s about getting high and mighty, certainly not for me at least. I think it’s more a case of regret that it does appear necessary for the club to get its hands dirty with, frankly, grubby foreign betting companies, in order to compete financially with our rivals. It’s another symptom of our beloved game increasingly being driven solely by money and a simultaneous weakening of a club’s connection with its own supporters. Some will say it doesn’t matter what’s on the shirt, which is true in some ways, but Chinese text that we can’t understand is unquestionably at odds with the concept of a shirt representing our club, our region and it’s fans. You might be right that we can’t have it both ways. But rather than lap it up and say “take the money!”, my instinctive reaction is regret and relutance. The ones that I do think should be banned/restricted though are the endless Ray Winstone type 'Bet Now' ads in between the football. Find them very intrusive and frankly effective - and kids should not be exposed to that level of betting advertising IMO. It'll create problems further down the line I think... Yep. They portray gambling as some kind of fundamental component of the Top LAD lifestyle, basically claiming that there's no way you can be a top, top bloke unless you're chucking half your pay packet on Liverpool 3-1 / Salah to score first. It's clever, dangerous shit, and it definitely has an influence on people, particularly young males who are the obvious target for these firms. The worst was that Ladbrokes Life one a couple of years ago, with "Mr. Stats" and "The Chancer" and all these stupid caricatures having a bantz-filled Saturday pissing their wages away and drinking crap lager. For some reason they didn't show Mr. Degenerate who's just done his kids' pocket money in betting on Swedish basketball, or Mr Payday Loan who's sleeping on his Mum's sofa at 40 years of age after his Mrs finally chucked him out.
