 - I know nothing about Dunder or the deal and am not reporting on anything to do with this for the Post today - the sports dept are - but i couldn't resist the opportunity of reminding Nick Day of 'the gap'. Again.

it was amusing to say the least

WTF do they see in Bristol City as a sponsorship deal?

All very bizarre.

well the national coverage we had last season for one, the championship is the 3rd most supported league in the world behind the prem and the german top flight

Well the coverage soon dropped away, I’ve not seen LJ in an SAS uniform or chefs whites in a Michelin starred restaurant for a while.

As a betting firm you’d think they’d know that last years heroics were a one off.

yes there is,

I gamble £10 a week, £5 on the horse and £5 on football, I don't gamble more then I can afford, I call that pretty responsible

Quite so Monkeh, quite so. But we are not talking about smart responsible people here.

It's the home grown heroes such as Joe and Bobby .

The down to earth characters of Frankie and Flinty .

The wholesome good looks of Maggie .

Without whom there would be no interest.

Who's gonna tell 'em ?

but you said there was no responsible gambling,

the vast majority of people gamble responsibly just like the vast majority drink responsibly, and until the advertising is outlawed then there is no problem with the club maximizing it's revenue streams,

people have been crying out for the club to become more professional with its off field affairs, this is the out come of that,

Money over everything these days  I'm afraid

not really we've still got the community trust doing a lot of things far more then other clubs do, don't we stock local food and drink in the ground, provide advertising on the big screen and bill boards around ashton gate?,

visit local schools and hospitals,

we do far more locally then just one shirt sponsor

As somebody who has purchased community trust products and been involved in being a Community Trust partner. I can say that is highly debatable. Bristol City Community Trust do many fine things, but they also do less coaching of football for instance in the community than Reading ... Or a smaller club like Exeter.

Players do visit schools in the Community for free but this is being linked to partnerships. Partnerships that are costly.

Since Amy Kington left the Community Trust its direction, and its affordability has changed.

I wonder if these same 'moral'  people would have a go if the Coates family (B365) owners came along and bought the club on the basis that there would be a 200 million input thrown in as a gift over x amount of years??

The deal has been done to maximise profits for the owners, which essentially will help the club for the future, if you disagree and are offended by a casinos sponsorship that much just don't bother going.

I'm definitely buying the new shirt, but I'm changing the sponsors name to 'DRUNKARD'.....

one thing I've never understood, why doesn't the club offer a shirt with no sponsorship on to fans, I'm sure they'd sell more then a few

Obviously the sponsors wouldn't be happy with that

Because that is part of the sponsorship deal?  Why would you want the fans not wearing the sponsor, it's half the marketing.

"Moral people" :rofl2br:

It's a wholly different proposition then isn't it? Personally I'm slightly concerned by it but nothing too seriously, and I don't think I've seen anyone on this thread totally outraged by it. But a company investing 200 million bob in us is a whole other ballpark to some random Maltese-based Swedes giving us a few hundred grand to a million to put their logo on our chest.

Just for balance, if it's a figure between 500k and 1m, that'll buy us roughly one Tyreeq Bakinson.

Agree I used to bet £5 a week on football when I could. More recently go into a casino occasionally, start with £10 no more, if I lose it it's gone, but it's pretty much the same cost as going to the cinema.

I bet every week on the lottery.

I feel grubby every time I lose - which is every week incidentally but I could have spent it on 8 litres of Lidl cider which I suggest is more likely to be the root cause of my ruination.

I won't buy the replica shirt now, I don't understand why clubs do deals with such immoral companies.   They now have the added complexity that a lot of players are recovering or dealing with gambling issues so lets stick it on their shirt FFS, then we wonder why players go so off the rails.

It’s like that time when all the players went off the rails with their addiction to DAS.

but the sponsorship deal is for their name to be on the front of the players shirts which in turn is broadcast around the wold, I very much doubt the fans are

i'd wager people go off the rails more so by the adverts that are on every day on every live sports broadcast on the tv

Dunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say Sponsers they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know, you'll know

We don't need another Woodrow,
Wish we didn't play away from home
All we want is Ashton Gate not the Dunderdome

Look at what misery those slots in shops have done, people who are addicted to those things are trapped, it is hideous that is why the Government slapped a maximum stake levy. You as a business don't have to sell out to these corrupt people, because that's what they are corrupt. Would anyone be happy that we would have a Pay Day loan Sponsor instead? I really cannot get my head around why some on here think it's a good deal, perhaps they are too 'coy' to say anything, and it's quite the macho thing to call yourself Cider something and gambling is just another thing that lad's do, innit.
