England v Panama Match Day Thread

Looking forward to this one following a reasonable start against Tunisia, though Belgium showed yesterday how it should be done. 1pm kick off for anyone who might have forgotten.

Seems like Deli Ali is out and will be replaced by Loftus-Cheek. I've not seen too much of him, but hope he does well.  Rashford in for Sterling, maybe.  I have been a bit disappointed with Raheem's goal tally, though his end product at international level seems to be lacking a bit too.

We need quite a few goals now to match Belgium's goal difference if we want to be in with a chance of winning the group with a draw against them.  I can't see that happening though as Panama seem to keep 11 behind the ball.

I would certainly like to see England being a bit more adventurous against teams like this and hope that Gareth doesn't have to shoulder the blame for a dislocated performance. The Belgium game is of course the one to test our mettle on Thursday.

I've been picking up some of the games on BBC 4k.  Anyone like to comment on their 4k experience.  For me, going back th HD after watching 4k was like going back to SD after watching HD.

Panama defended solidly for about 70 minutes v Belgium, were lucky to only be one down, but then tired badly. I can see the same thing happening today.

It would be nice to go a couple up early doors though and have a comfortable win for once mind!

Just like Tunisia yesterday they’ll have to be more attacking really as it’s all or bust

According to my wall chart wouldn't it be better to avoid winning the group due to Germany's loss to Mexico. The group runner up would play maybe Senegal or Poland and then Mexico in the quarters.

Yeah I've said that, not getting a result vs Belgium really wouldn't be bad

Sterling keeps his place apparently.

I may be in a minority of one but I'm quite pleased by that, Rashford seems to have far more impact when he comes on a sub  Sterling seems to start like a train then lose momentum .

Could someone please explain how Ashley Young is the preferred choice over Danny Rose

If not winning the group is preferable, surely the ideal scenario would be a draw with Belgium and finish second on goal difference. Better to avoid the psychological damage of a defeat.

So now dunder is our kit sponsor, if I buy the shirt I am more likely to become a gambling addict? What absolute nonsense. Gambling is something that brings a lot of joy to people, just like many other addictive things like alcohol, food, sex, otib! Almost anything can be addictive. As long as it doesnt say something like heroin or crack cocaine on our shirt, then pretty much anything goes as far as I'm concerned.

So what about Wonga for example, or any of the other payday loan scumbags? Similar target sectors of the population to gambling firms in terms of majority of their revenues I would have thought?

Either way, just dont finish top of the group. Can picture Southgate today 'alright lads just don't score too many' .... 'not a problem boss'

If England win today I would hope for Southgate to unashamedly 'shuffle the pack for that Belgium game......minimum four changes to today's starting eleven, then again fairly early from the bench-and hope the players don't Ball's it up for him!!

Nizhny Novgorod looking fantastic in the sun, the stadium a little futuristic from the distance and hoping for a solid but not spectacular win. We don't want to finish first surely!

Due to venture out in a short while.

Hopefully it has cooled down since yesterday: was cracking the flags at 3pm.

Well where do you draw the line on morals and stupidity then?

How about Brighthouse?

I can only assume he possesses Kompromat on Southgate.

Whilst I wanted him turfed, I guess the inclusion of both him and Sterling means I can alternate the subject of my foul-mouthed venting.

Martinez was already saying that the 3 taken off Vs Tunisia would probably miss the England game, true or trying for 2nd place ? Who knows.
First thing is win the game, qualify and then worry about what lies ahead. We, on our day , can lose to anyone so we have to be careful what we wish for. But the route does look to be a little easier potentially .

Remember when we thought we had the easier route when we played Iceland in the Euros? That went well.

That said, I think we have a better squad and tactics this time round.

That’s the English World Cup spirit right there!

Was thinking that on our day we can beat anyone too and that we shouldn’t be scared of Germany. I think that may potentially be an easier game than Mexico! Neither will be gimmes, but we have a chance against anyone the way this World Cup has gone so far.

That single game, after so many others over the years killed my spirit.

I still go into games thinking we can/will win , but as I said above since the Iceland game it's harder.
I like this group, starting to come around to Southgate , but can't help that feeling in the back of my mind . Like to see us put up a good , confident display today, and over the 90.

Good investigative work Sox. So you are saying Germany likely to finish 2nd and would play the winners of our group?
