In 78 they numbered the surviving members of 74 with the same numbers and everyone else had 'normal' numbers (goalkeeper Jongblooed (sp?) wore 8 again) Italy had an interesting one, with players allocated numbers alphabetically based on position-keepers were 1, 12, 22 (though often the actual number 1 would wear the 1 shirt, hence Zenga in 1990) defenders 2-8/9, midfielders 9/10-18 and strikers 18/19-21. Exceptions were allowed, Baggio wore 10 in 94. By 98 they had largely left this numbering policy. Should you ever think about going on Mastermind I think we've found your specialist subject! redsapper
If Joe will not sign the club must sell him!! Joe has the opertuneaty to become a club legend by staying and being part of the squad that takes us to the promised land! The problem is the riches that he could get and the signing on fee from another club. He is probably see this as possible his only chance to get his big move. I for one would love him to stay as a lad that has come through the system to first team is alway special to us fans. Plus he’s a dam good player when on his game. The closer we get to the deadline the fee may raise but it may not be able to get a replacement or use the cash in this window.

handsofclay
If we took on some part-timers say 3 days a week and alternate Saturdays, then we could have players sharing the same number. It would never get confusing during games because they would never work on the same day together. Similarly, we could allow players to have a holiday or two during the season and get in temporary players to fill the void and they would be allotted the same number as the vacationer. Perhaps we can just hire two full-time professionals to fill in for the two players who are on holiday at any one time and thus have multiple numbers. This would be a good source of revenue as the club could run a lottery pre-season in which supporters guess the sequence of numbers a particular fill in player will wear during the season. Anyone who gets 6 in a row gets free use of an executive box for a year. Anyone who gets 5 out of 6 and then the bonus shirt gets a brick in the Wedlock Wall. This is the germ of a good idea. We could be the first club to give players 4 weeks paid holiday during the season, on condition that if they are ever injured they use part of their holiday, or all of it, there and then. At present, if a player is injured/suspended other clubs rub their hands in glee. Like, Leeds United fans will be buoyed if they hear that the City team facing them will be without Pack and COD due to injury. However, if they heard that City were without Pack and COD because they were on holiday, it would really freak them out and get into their heads. They would automatically feel inferior because we were so strong we can allow players to have in season holidays. Of course, if a player gets injured during a match, this will have to be disguised to make it look like he is going off on holiday early to beat the traffic. For instance, stretcher bearers can come on to the pitch carrying a suitcase and also a pair of shades to apply to the stricken player. The fans can do our bit by calling out, 'Have a nice time,' and, 'send us a postcard,' etc as the player is stretchered off.

Undy English
I find it hilarious how grown men fret so much about what numbered shirt they play in. Multi-national superstars with brands, like CR7 or Beckham, I understand, they have marketing commitments, but Championship footballers etc. I just don't get the big deal personally.
