Matchday Parking/Travel 2018/19 (Merged)

I'm lucky. I will be walking from home to Ashton Gate on Saturday, because it's not far.
But for those driving in, I've been doing a few stories about changes and developments to parking and buses and getting to the ground this season.
First up, Southville RPZ has been extended to Saturday. This covers anyone parking in the streets behind Aldi, basically. east of Greville Smyth Park and north of North Street.
There's an 'interactive map' and an explanation here: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/bristol-city-residents-parking-southville-1854393

As a fan and a local resident, I maybe naively believe actually residents and fans want the same thing - proper matchday parking which is convenient, accessible, doesn't block roads or driveways, and doesn't mean people get towed or ticketed .

Everyone hoped Metrobus M2 would be an answer, but guess what? It's not adding much extra in terms of options for people.
Saturday 3pm kick offs you can go from Temple MEads/City Centre to the Ashton Gate stop (behind Paxton Drive) but Sundays or midweek? not an option.
And as for the Long Ashton park and ride? same as before.

Honestly tearing my hair out with this one now, and i aint got any hair.
Done this article highlighting just how frustrating it is

Be interested if you do get an answer as to why on earth it is not going to run for approximately half the football/ rugby games scheduled this season.

Seems a shambles of the park & ride nature to me..

Yes. I've asked if it will - answer 'no'
Then asked 'why not'.
Still waiting for an answer
From speaking to the club I know they are very frustrated, to say the least.
It seems particularly mad to not keep it going for an extra hour on a weekday evening, til 10.30.
I actually think that they actively and strategically don't want Metrobus to be an option for fans travelling to the Stadium. They are worried if it is, everyone will want to use it, and it won't be able to cope.

Thanks, no wonder we have gridlock though if the reason not to run it is they are scared it will be too popular!

What a joke this City and it's council are. If they anted to see a Metro system that works and can cater for large events why not go to Sheffield, Nottingham or Manchester. It is not like Bristol had to invent the bloody wheel.

It is more likely that our wonderful council just wanted it done on the cheap again. They even messed that up. I also think involving First was a mistake.

Just heard the Metrobus boss on radio Bristol. Not enough buses to cope with a large football crowd!

As metro bus isn't running on a Sunday, you'd think they'd have enough buses to cope with the journey between the P&R and Ashton Gate,  if that's all they did.

That's fair enough, but the council shouldn't be putting parking restrictions in place until there's viable alternatives i.e more buses, metro, p&r, trains etc..

This issue has been a recurring one for a while.

Parking, etc etc.

Just out of general interest, how do other clubs- and I don't necessarily mean out of town grounds like Derby- cope with it? Is it the same everywhere, or is the problem here quite acute?

(Would also exclude lots of London clubs owing to the tube and their general transport infrastructure).

So... either buy more buses or get the **** out of your job. Matey, we’re being forced to give up our cars and use your friggin public transport. We really, really don’t want to. However, we have no choice so get off your arse and do something.

BTW. Why do you lot vote in such w@nkers to run your glorious city?

Absolutely sickening. Champagne socialists toasting their success in turning Bemmy into a London suburb while genuine Bristolians are forced out to Bridgwater. Probably be a ban on singing on Saturdays next as the words are transphobic. Complete joke this council has bent us all over for decades now.

Let’s see, build a station at Ashton Gate halt, two trains to and from Temple Meads on match days. P&R at Long Ashton, extra buses to/ from there on match days and to/ from the centre. How do we make something as simple and obvious as that so difficult? Privatisation!!! Better service at lower cost my a**e

I cannot believe that this isn't a talking point on this forum, but it is relevant to anyone wanting to bring a car into Southville this Saturday for all Mondays through to Saturdays to come.

Here's the link below. Apologies if I have missed a previous thread about this already.

I come in from Cardiff and use the Portway P+R nowadays.

Piece of pish getting in, drops off right outside.

Only slight issue is occasionally not enough buses immediately after game but that got better as last season went on and yesterday’s article on OS indicated there will be more again this year.

If you come in from M5 or M4 west strongly recommend giving it a go. Far less hassle than driving in and trying to find somewhere to park and if you can get the first bus out after the game you’ll be back on the motorway by 5.30.

As @Tristan Cork has correctly said the RPZ behind Hen & Chicken / Masonic / Spanish etc is now effective on a Saturday. There is, however, no such restriction, bizarrely, on the streets immediately next to the ground. Whilst Bristol Sport claim that a few extra buses will help alleviate congestion around the ground, we all know that the RPZ just moves the problem and in reality BS are just ignoring the real impact on their neighbours  - or is it the Council at fault for not being more proactive!?
