Champagne socialists toasting their success in turning Bemmy into a London suburb

Then presumably this Londoner can park where he likes when making the trek?

If I had my way the whole of Bristol's Council would be able to park where they liked, courtesy of the Blue Badges their deserved crippled limbs would afford them.

The most backward City in this country. Laughable. No shock with a **** Like Marvin Rees arouund

Sooo .. what if the next Marvin Rees had a huge backing of Bristol City Supporters behind him/her instead. Can we help bring about the change we want?
Perhaps there's a red out there approaching the retirement age (or not), who needs a fresh challenge? Can we give them perhaps 20Kish of support?

I've got a simple solution that would solve alot of the problem,

reopen the POD line and put in a station at Ashton Gate Halt, run a half hourly service to temple meads then,

god if only it were that simple and the council and government could actually forward plan............

Public transport is rubbish we travel by train and they only use two carriages for hundreds of football fans so its packed but the good point about that is that they can't check tickets so it's free for a lot of people.

Why don't they put more carriages on when they know it's going to be so crowded,it's not rocket science !

football fixtures come out long after the train timetable has been submitted and brought into effect,

It isn't cost effective, and would eat into the train operating company's profits

Update - this is why the Metrobus M2 isn't for Ashton Gate events, like matches, with thousands of people.

They would have to put on extra buses.
But regular buses can't drive along the guide rail, and in any case can't go under the Ashton Swing Bridge.
Did this explaining more

@Tristan Cork it all comes down to costs, First won't invest in more buses because it will eat into any profits they could make, while they will be busy during match days at the close season and between games they won't be used and would still cost money to maintain,

Well, the question would be why design a stupid system that only 1% of the bus fleet can use. In today's world flexibility is the key to business success. Hopeless, absolute shambles.

As it is those many supporters from the South West travelling by train have to leave the game early to get on the first bus and just hope as it inevitably gets clogged up in traffic - being routed through the most congested roads in TownCentre  - that the driver will use his/her discretion to go up Temple Meads approach road so you can hop off and sprint to the furthest platform to catch the Plymouth bound train.

Is there no wonder that people elect to use their cars?

Joined up public transport planning my @rse.

UPDATE to this whole issue.
After Southville RPZ, now Imperial are not letting people park there on matchdays.
While it's 500 spaces in their car park, it was a bit of an informal arrangement for ex-employees and mates and stuff, so it was never full, but it's still more cars to park somewhere else.
The full story is here if anyone needs more details. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/500-space-car-park-next-1874948
I'll keep on about this issue, Metrobus, the Park and Ride, the rubbish public transport, the lack of trains, buses, viable alternatives and so on.
Until recently (and it still might well be the case) First, the council and Bristol Sport all passed this on to the other and said 'you should do something about this', and there has never really been any joined-up thinking. Or maybe even any thinking at all...

I come in from Cardiff and use the Portway P+R nowadays.

Piece of pish getting in, drops off right outside.

Only slight issue is occasionally not enough buses immediately after game but that got better as last season went on and yesterday’s article on OS indicated there will be more again this year.

If you come in from M5 or M4 west strongly recommend giving it a go. Far less hassle than driving in and trying to find somewhere to park and if you can get the first bus out after the game you’ll be back on the motorway by 5.30.

Hi mate

Where do you catch the bus from to get back to the P&P? Also how much is it?

This could be a option for me this season as parking by Babcocks is becoming a absolute nightmare to get out of. after the game.

How true and slightly off topic... Last season I went to Millwall away, had seats reserved etc so walked up about 5 minutes before departure at Temple Meads.  Get to platform and we got a brand new train, our carriage was closed and out of use, the one next to it was closed and out of use. So it ended up a free for all for seats as ours tickets now had no reserved seats for us. So we now have a train with 2 less carriages that still proceeded to be taken all the way to London. This was the same day Bath were at Twickenham so the whole train was rammed with 2 empty carriages for the whole journey. They could have put on 2 different carriages and filled them with paying customers, but not our train companies, they just pack everyone in and cause friction just to save a few quid. What they don't see is in the long run they save nothing, and it costs them money because people don't want to get the train if they don't have to.

Will be driving to a few games this season rather than pay them my hard earned if I don't have to. Bolton away Saturday was £90 when I last looked and that included a replacement bus. Disgusting service.

I catch the 42 or 43 from warmley and it’s on average about a 40/45 minute journey to Debenhams on Bond Street and then a short walk to the bus station where I’m not usually waiting no more than 5 minutes to jump on one of the X bus routes minus the X2 as that doesn’t stop at winterstoke road. Then from the bus station it’s no more than 15 minutes max until you’re at the ground. I’ve been doing this now since 14/15 season and to be honest it’s never crossed my mind to jump in the car and drive down as it’s so much hassle. For those that can use the bus then I’d say give it a go as it’s not that painful. There’s an app where you buy your ticket and also an app which gives you live updates for the upcoming buses at your location so you can plan what time you leave your house, leave the pub and so on.

The buses back to Portway P&R leave from outside the Robins pub. They'd added another bus last week, didn't have to wait at all.

Outside the Robins.

I think their aim is to have 2 waiting after the game and a third up the road as the gates increase but don’t quote me on that.

There are now definitely two around for straight after game.

£4.50 for adults, presume kids/oap’s are half but I don’t know.

That’s crazy though. Car full of adults and costing nearly £25 to park your car really

True, works for me as I’m generally the only one of us that comes in that way so don’t have a car full. Not for everyone though

That said it’s safe parking, no chance of a ticket and just no hassle really. Nor having to walk miles after finally getting somewhere to park.
