Bookmakers at the gate

My mate who used to spend a good hour in Ladbrokes up by the Robins before the game now does all his bets on his phone in the car coming up to AG and I guess that`s the norm these days. I also think the attraction when we had the shed in the car park was that they did a lot of City-specific bets which you would struggle to find anywhere else back then but now everything you could possibly want to bet on is available online. Also, in-play betting is a major thing which you can`t do in a bookies shop if you`re sat at the game. My guess is that paying for some space and staffing it isn`t worth what they would take on the day.

Are Dunder ever likely to try make a break into the UK mainstream betting market? I don’t know a lot about casino style betting only football/horses etc so don’t really know how big a company they are.

Late in replying to this thread, so apologies in resurrecting it.

Having myself worked in iGaming for the past 18 years and also knowing some of the people at Dunder, they certainly are targeting the UK online casino market.

Hence the UKGC license and the shirt sponsorship of City.

You will find more and more casino portals working with them, which are UK facing. We currently don’t work with them, but plan to in the very near future.

That meant nothing to me……….!  Have you got doors and a window (like the bookies I used to frequent)?????  ?

To add to this, betting advertising on the television is absolutely dreadful. Such moronic and infantile humour it’s cringeworthy. I use to like Jeff Stelling but the constant sky bet adverts and his general attitude, stinks.

LADS. Betting with the LADS. Have a pie and a pint and nip down the offy for a four pack with the LADS and play five a side and spend all your money on gambling because if you don't you're not a TOP LAD.

How many people are willing to admit they probably spend too much on gambling and lose more than they make?

It's always my observation that not many do, yet there are umpteen of these horrific companies like SkyBet and Paddy power making millions.

I stopped gambling a few years ago. I was one of those that refused to admit I was losing more than I was making.

think most people no there going to lose, just need to follow the golden rule never bet more than you can afford to lose,  the trick the bookies use now is to offer so many different betting options , how many corners , yellow and red cards , score casts etc, it makes it even harder to win ,  in my opinion the only way to win especially on football betting is to only bet on singles or doubles , much more chance of winning but you do need to bet with larger stakes if you want to win proper money.

The tools available to you are important too. I'm in a paid group that uses stats cards for, currently, around 300 matches a week for leagues as mainstream as England, Italy etc and as vague as Iceland and Indonesia!

If you have the right resources available to you and the right discipline then there's definitely a way of making money from betting.  The cards we use have recently given me some good wins in MLS, but also made me rethink a Both Teams To Score four fold in England last week because of the btts stats of the away team. Of course you're always relying on 22 men to do the job you want them to do, but there are ways of getting an edge in betting.

The trick is in knowing where to look and who to avoid, such as FootySuperTips, who often advertise at the Gate. Shysters of the highest order, those guys. Offering tips which almost always lose, but people fall the spin. People sign up to bookies from their site which then gives FST a commission from losing bets! Affiliates are essentially scum that should be avoided!

If you do it responsibly then I see no problem. I often put 15 fold on and stake 50p. That 50p will go nowhere in my eyes, worth risking it to potentially return £500. That’s only on footballing Saturdays as well just to spice up the weekend a little

Personally I think it's in bad taste to allow gambling sites to advertise at the Gate. That's just my tuppence worth

shame we play in the Skybet Championship,

even if we didn't have dunder gambling sites would still be advertised and the club can do nothing about it

I always lose more then I win, as the saying goes, the bookie always wins in the end,

But the secret to it is not to spend more then you can afford, I spend £10 a week gambling on the football (i'm up at the moment) and £5 a week on the horses I could gamble more because I can afford to but I don't,

Its the sites and adverts that target people with addictive personalitys thats the problem, like Sky bet pinging up on the phone every day saying they have odd's increases

For all the bluster about Dunder, I've yet to see them ram their online casino down our throats unlike sky bet with their adverts every day at all hours,

Like with alcohol they should be restricted to after the watershed at 9pm

I'll never grasp the 'lose more than you win' argument. Only a fool would think it's about winning when in reality its about the enjoyment and fun whilst it lasts. It's entertainment. One wouldn't expect to spend a night in the boozer, to watch it ultimately flow down the urinal and expect to leave with your wallet as intact as when you first went it (well not unless you're a round dodger.) And the problems created? It's about self control. If you haven't got it recognise why and do something about it rather than seek to blame everybody other than oneself. I've also never met anybody who wasn't predisposed to bet suddenly create an account because Big Ray's offering 5/1 on Salah to score next....

Pretty much my view on it, it creates a bit of excitement in what would otherwise be a dull neutral match (I never bet on City or the sags). It`s the same when I go racing - I set myself a limit I am prepared to lose on each race, a fiver or a tenner say, and re-evaluate if I get a winner early doors.

I'd go with that. I set a limit via Paddy Power every Saturday....I'm currently well in credit and honestly dont recall the last time I had to put any money into the account. A car service. MOT and Insurance are due in September (crap timing), so I've no doubt I'll be making a withdrawal to help pay for it all. I bet to a system and method and its served me well over the last few years so wont change now
